I first smelled this from a free sample I got from Sephora!
I liked it a lot! To me, it smelled like cotton candy. Its not my favorite scent but it's nice to have. I got the 1 oz EDP thru a swap! I'm happy with it. No need to repurchase, will probably last me a lifetime!
I must say, retail price is pretty steep though. I'm glad I got mine thru a swap.

I got this in a sample size from sephora, and I am extremely disappointed in this scent!! I love sweet and sugary scents, but this is sickening -- I spritzed on a little bit on my wrists and within 10 minutes I had to wash it off. Very nasty and cheap smelling but at least I didn't actually pay anything for this stuff.
Butterfly is very different from my usual faves (D&G L'Amoureaux, Versace Versense, Versace Dreamer) which tend towards green/unisex, but it's unique which is why I like it. Soft and sweet, and has great staying power and sillage without being overpowering. It's difficult to tell exactly what it smells like which I like - not specifically vanilla but vanilla-esque and powdery. There's nothing more boring to me than smelling just 'vanilla' or 'fruity' etc...this frag is complex enough to avoid that. My bf who never comments on (or seems to notice) my perfumes made the comment 'YOU smell good' the first time I wore this. (As opposed to 'That PERFUME you're wearing smells good'.) I'll be buying this again since it makes us both happy! Btw, I don't know what the difference is, but the box mine came in had pink butterflies on it instead of blue. Not sure if the frag is different for each color? Also the bottle is very pretty, but the cap is plastic, not glass as stated on Sephora's site. It cost USD$90. continued >>
I just don't get this scent. I got a sample from Sephora and it smells just like Vanilla Fields from the 90's. No thanks.
This is now my number one fragrance. I love the sweetness of it but it is sweet and refined; not sweet and girly. Whenever I catch whiffs of it I just inhale deeply and sigh. Love it.
When I first got this perfume, I was working in a store where men's cologne was sprayed throughout the store every hour, so a sweet feminine scent like this one was like a breath of fresh air. Now a few years later I find that this scent by itself is much too feminine for me, and it borders on "old lady". HOWEVER, I have figured out that by wearing a dab of this perfume with a dab of any men's cologne really balances out the scent and turns it into something completely different, something I like, and get a lot of compliments on. So if you get frustrated with this perfume, it's a great scent for mixing with other fragrances until you get a blend you like. The other thing I wasn't crazy about is the large, butterfly shaped cap. It's awkward, bulky, and it fell off so many times that I just stopped putting it back on.
I first saw Butterfly a couple of years ago in Sephora. After reading countless favorable reviews for this, I was very excited to test it. I tested both the EDP and the EDT at least half a dozen times in varying weather/seasons. While I don't find it to be a totally unpleasant perfume, I can't say that I enjoy it. To my nose, HM Butterfly smells like bland fruit salad with lukewarm cream poured on top, served in a melted plastic container. The "melted plastic note" that I detect is what makes me a bit queasy. Additionally, this scent lacks "zing" and it falls flat. It just feels as though something is missing. I most always prefer an EDP to an EDT, but with this, I simply cannot tolerate the EDP. The EDT is a bit more fresh and wearable.
The sillage is fantastic and one spray lasted hours and hours on my skin. I really wanted to love HM Butterfly and perhaps I would like it more on someone else.

On me, Hanae Mori Butterfly smells warm, sexy and not overly sweet, even though I prefer to use it only at night, when going out to some clubs and parties. If the weather is really hot, I just spray a small amount.
I recommend to women in their 20's and 30's who would like to wear an "adult vanilla" scent, but it would be nice to try a sample first, since all fragrances tend to react differently on each skin.
