After reading a lot of glowing reviews about Rimmel's primers, I was dying to give this a try. I'm new to makeup, so over the past few months I had no idea what a primer was and what it did, so I never bought one. When I finally DID find out what purpose a primer served, I was doing research on m.u.a. like crazy trying to find the right primer for me.
I used this everyday for about 2 weeks. It comes in a squeeze tube, so it's very easy to get the amount out that you want. The product did blend very well onto my face, and after leaving it on for a few minutes I could see it smoothing my skintone out and reducing the size of my pores, which was very exciting!
Within minutes, however, my face took on a darker, more tan color that I was not happy with. It took me about to week to figure out it was the primer doing this. I like my fair skintone, and want to enhance it --- not cover it up with an unnatural skintone. I also felt it had no brightening or illuminating effects like the text on the tube claims. In fact, this primer almost cast a shadow across my face.
You only need a little amount of product to cover your face, but the tube is small and was $10... I'm not sure if this is the going rate of drugstore primers but I felt it was a little pricey, especially for a brand like Rimmell. Long story short, I wouldn't repurchase this product again. I wouldn't recommend it for lighter skintones, either, who would like to stay true to their skintone.
- Blends well onto skin, and you only need a small amount to cover your face
- Gives your skin a smooth texture which you can see
- Reduces the sizes of pores
- The tint is too dark for light skintones
- It enhances already dark areas of your face, like around the eyes and the nose.
Mannn this stuff clogs my pores like crazy, it broke me out in 1 large cystic bump and a couple small ones on my face. Yikes! It sucks though because I actually like this product. It smoothed the look of my skin and pores. I'm giving it a generous review because I did like the scent, and final results but I won't be repurchasing as this broke me out terribly. If you don't have sensitive skin like me, give this a try.
I'm always afraid to try new products on my face, as I break out easily, but I was tired of paying some 30 odd dollars for the Cover FX clearprep which wasn't really doing anything for me. I decided to try this as a cheaper alternative and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Its very hydrating, perfect for my dry skin, and makes my skin feel smooth and even looking. It does however cause me to get a little bit more oily than usual during the day but its worth it. It hasn't broken me out (well I don't notice any more breakouts than usual) so I'd say this product is pretty good!
Turns out this product isn't as great as I initially thought: by midday my face is super shiny and oily which has lead to breakouts. I can't stand this product anymore - so much so that I had to throw it out ....
The Good: My skin is "perfected". Smaller pores, foundation lasts longer, feels moisturizing but is mattifying (but not drying). Simple and useful packaging, lots of product for a cheap price. Doesn't slip and slide around.
The Bad: My face feels like a honey glazed ham. It's very thick. I can stand this in the winter but in the summer (when I need primer the most) I don't bother.
For pore minimizing and line filling, this does the job as well as HE products.
This is by far the best drugstore primer I've used! In conjunction with a good setting spray, my makeup stays put all day.
I have read reviews on MUA before, but I never signed up until now to write a review on this product.
I bought this products less than a week ago, only after reading an article that said I should be wearing primer. I never thought that I should use primer, because I didn't know what it really did that my foundation didn't already do. I didn't look for long in store to find one but I did look long enough to find one at an easy affordable price for me, who just wanted to try something out.
With the use of just foundation, my skin is oily and lately (summer months) it's been so oily, and my make up just didn't hold up throughout the day. I would have to blot and sometimes use powder, which I never use. When I started using this product I couldn't tell the different it made on my skin and makeup until the night time. It resembled lotion and I almost felt like I wasted my money because I thought it wouldn't do anything, I mean, it just looked like lotion. At night I noticed a change, my make up didn't grease up like it normally did, it looked smoother and still in tact. My eyelids weren't oily, and my pores never became visible again.
I've been using it every day and it always amazes me how my face looks after being outside in hot and humid weather.
I'm starting a new job and I am so glad I found something that helps my makeup last! I definitely don't want to be touching up makeup all day, so this primer is one i will be repurchasing.
- keeps my skin from getting shiny
- soft smooth texture
- smooths skin
- lasts all day in HOT and HUMID weather!
- has no smell
- no tint, which means it can be used by anyone!
- fills pores
- easy packaging, fits in purse
- good price
I like this primer a lot! Would have to say my favorite or one of my favorites from the drugstore!
This is the best drugstore primer I have ever used. And the price is unbeatable. This keeps my foundation in tact every single day from day to night. I even throw this in my makeup kit and use it on my clients. Love this primer will repurchase over and over !
I've been using this since it was first introduced by Rimmel and have lost count on how many times I've repurchased. This primers consistency is unlike any I've tried before, it's almost like a moisturizer as it hydrates without any greasiness. On a side note, I'm referring to the one in the blue and white tube. A few of the other reviewers are confusing this with the original rimmel primer in the red and white tube that has an orange tint, which imo, is useless. I apply the pro primer in the morning under my foundation and my MU, including blush, and powder, look freshly applied when I go to remove it at bed time. For reference i have aging, sensitive skin with a few fine lines and dryness. It reduces the look of my fine lines, diminishes pore size and provides a soft smooth base while it keeps my MU intact all day. About a year ago I stopped searching for other primers. This one does exactly what I had hoped all my other HE primers would do...but didn't. Huge bonus, it's dirt cheap.
I think it's safe to say this is one of the best drugstore products I have ever bought! When I began aging, primer became my best friend and I became just as obsessed with it as I am with foundation (and THAT is a huge obsession lol). I am 35 but I have a ton of premature aging from sun damage/smoking/etc. Even though I stopped smoking at 30 and stopped tanning at 31, the damage was done and now I spend an insane amount of time trying to soften the effects with products rather than contemplate having "work done". I had all but given up on drugstore makeup completely after a string of real duds, when I began hearing about Rimmel Fix and Perfext 002 on the makeup boards here on MUA. Curiosity got the best of me so I finally picked up a tube, brought it home, and tried it out. I must say I was VERY pleasantly surprised! It feels wonderfully silky but not oily or heavy in any way. A little goes a long way and it softens my fine lines and pores better than most of my high-end primers designed for the same purpose. It's not the least bit greasy and it feels almost nourishing/moisturizing on the skin. I can't tell if it improved the longevity of my foundation because I have only worn it with long-wearing foundation this far, but as far as creating a smooth base for makeup, it definitely gets a huge thumbs up from me!
