This is about the 4th drug store primer I've tried and I think at this point I'm just going to give up on primers. Thankfully it was cheap.
This product does nothing for the look or staying power of my foundation. It doesn't make my pores appear smaller, it doesn't keep the finish of my foundation matte. It does nothing.
I have never used primer before mainly because I don't like putting too much on my face because I have extremely oily skin! Recently I noticed that my mineral makeup makes the texture of my skin look awful! I got this primer just to try I did not want to get anything expensive for my first go. As far as making my makeup last longer I found that it did hold up a lot better than it normally does. It did not feel heavy or masky on my face which is very important to me. The usual creases did not form as bad and the texture of my skin was probably about 75% improved with the use of primer under my mineral makeup and over moisturizer! Between my oily/dry skin in the insane heat and humidity where I live honestly don't think any amount of primer or setting spray or powder could keep the oiliness away. Overall I would say that I would purchase this product again because the price is right and it does exactly what it says it's supposed to do. My only negative on the product is the smell it smells good but I do not like to put anything scented on my face
Fix & Perfect primer is just ok. The smell is calm and it rubs on your face smoothly. After 4-5 hours, my makeup turns oily though. It wont make your foundation go on cakey like some primers do. I do sometimes mix my foundation with this primer and rub it on my face creating my own BB crème I guess and to save time.
Pros: Smooth and application, the price, scent.
Cons: Face becomes oily quickly.
This product is A-MAZING!!! I suffer from dry skin and acne, so a lot of my foundations look cakey and don't last as long. With them primer, it smooths all of my dry patches and make my foundation look flawless. It also helps the foundation last longer, and I can prove this because at the end of the day when I use my makeup remover wipes to clean my face, I can see all the foundation coming off, not like when I didn't use this primer and the wipes would barely show any foundation. Best thing about this is that it didn't break me out. Will definitely repurchase this. So cheap and effective.
Unfortunately this doesn't do much for me, so in the trash can it goes...
The only things I like about it are: the scent, the fact that it feels and looks like a lotion while applying it, and the packaging.
Other than that, the performance leaves a lot to be desired. I tried it with a few foundations, and it does nothing to prolong their wear time, to keep me matte or cover my not-so-large pores, If anything, I get oily faster, and my foundation separates on my face and looks bad.
I guess I should be happy it didn't break me out so far, but I'm very disappointed, as this product is almost always out of stock everywhere so I had high hopes for it.
One of the things that turned me off about this primer is the weird orange-y color of the product. Thankfully it didn't make me look like a Jersey Shore cast member! My pores looked okay and it goes on smoothly. In my experience, however, it didn't help my foundation last very long. Four or five hours in, my makeup looked patchy and uneven. Quite the opposite from the current primer I am using. Not a product I would recommend. :(
-makes my oily skin less oily all day
-hides my pores
-makes my makeup last longer
Doesn't make you look like a grease ball after 4 hours like heavy silicone ones
Make up lasts all day
Can't feel it on skin-not greasy like many others
Good alternative to Smashbox photo finish light
Sinks in right away
Didn't break me out or cause white heads
Nice that it's in a squeeze tube rather than a pot
Makes makeup matte, but probably great for people who are oily (I prefer a dewy finish)
Since it's not slippery, it's hard to tell how much you need...so I'm thinking I might go through this fairly quick
Even though I was very happy with my Boots No 7 Shine Free Makeup Base, I recently decided to try this on a whim. Now, I have no idea why I strayed..
I really like the packaging of this product. It comes in a squeeze tube that is very user friendly. I also like the thickness and texture of this product. It’s almost like a lotion. A pea-sized amount covers my entire face. The price is also reasonable. You also get a decent amount of product for the price.
Before I started wearing primer, my liquid foundation would look great when I first applied it. But within 4-5 hours, it would start breaking up and fading away to nothing. Usually by about the 6 hour mark, I would have large patches of redness showing through.
This primer did not do much of anything for me. I did not keep me matte or make my makeup last longer. It didn’t do anything to control the oil. In fact, I think it made my face even more oily than it was before. It was pretty much like I wasn’t even wearing primer. I also didn’t care for the smell of this product. It’s hard to describe, but it has almost a chemical smell to it. Not pleasant at all.
I recently tried some new liquid foundations. I tried the Revlon Nearly Naked foundation. I loved the coverage and how natural it looked, but it started fading away after about 4 hours. Even with primer and powder. I also recently got a sample of the MAC Pro Longwear. Again, I loved the coverage, the natural look, and how lightweight it was. But even though it was supposed to last 15 hours, I found it lasted 7 maybe 8 hours even with primer. Even my Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte foundation started fading away after 5-6 hours. I did not understand it. My Boots foundation always lasted 12 plus hours with no problem whatsoever. I posted a comment on the Makeup Alley message board about the Pro Longwear and how it only stayed 7-8 hours. Someone replied and said that it could be my primer or moisturizer that was causing it to fade away. At first, I did not think that could be true. But then a lightbulb went off. It sounds kind of stupid, but I’d completely forgotten I’d switched primers. I realized that had to be the culprit. It was the only thing in my makeup routine that had changed. I was using the same moisturizer and foundation I’d always used.
When I first started using the Rimmel primer, I really liked it. I ended up throwing away my Boots Makeup Base. Once I realized the Rimmel Primer wasn’t doing squat, I really regretted throwing away the Boots product. But fortunately, I was able to rescue it from the garbage before it was too late. Needless to say, I have gone back to using the Boots product. I really wish I had read reviews of the Rimmel primer before buying it. If I had, I would never have purchased it. People with oily skin rated the Rimmel primer really low and said it didn’t do much of anything for them. Oh well...lesson learned I guess. I do not recommend this product to girls with oily skin. Maybe it would work better for someone with dry skin. But since I don’t have dry skin, I cannot say for sure. But one thing is for sure. I won’t be repurchasing this Rimmel primer. I am sticking with the Boots which I know works for me and does what a primer is supposed to do.
I picked this up after needing a new primer and seeing the reviews on this. I've only used it twice so far, but so far so good!
Personally, I like the squeeze tube packaging, which makes it relatively easy to get how much product I want. The primer smells like lotion which, while not my favourite smell, doesn't bother me. It is a bit of a strong chemical-y lotion smell though, so some people might find it to be too much.
It goes on relatively easy. Not much to say there :P I like how thick it is (comparing to bare essentials oil control primer which was a bust) and I love the finish on my skin after I put it on. It feels silky and satiny and almost matte (I have almost never in my life experienced matte because I'm oily-acne prone and I adore the feeling this gives my skin).
I'd say that my foundation application is a bit easier. It doesn't fill in my orange-peel pores as well as I'd like though, so I have to do a lot of buffing with my foundation to get a fairly smooth look there.
I wouldn't say it makes my foundation last too much longer than normal as I always find my foundation moves around weirdly (it seems to clump together and crack almost? I dunno. This is revlon colourstay by the way) around my mouth, and I was hoping this would help with it, and I'm not convinced it does, but it certainly helps with the shine and moving around of foundation on my forehead! I was very impressed with that. Not quite convinced it helped with the shine on my cheeks though...we'll see.
Now to figure out if it will make me break out, since it's silicone based and I have acne prone skin. I will let you know what I find out after about a week of using it!
Edit: So far, so good! I think the key is making sure that your moisturizer has a few minutes to sink into your skin before applying, or else it can draw the primer into your skin rather than letting it sit on top and protect, because I know when I wasn't waiting when I didn't know how to use primer, even my prime time oil control made me break out. Anyhow, yeah, no break outs yet!
