I got this as a deluxe sample and wasn't that impressed. Despite its lofty claims of increased volume and lash health, this mascara seemed like a pretty basic formula with less than amazing results to me.
The brush has short bristles and the formula doesn't coat the brush that well, making it necessary to re-dip the wand a couple times each eye for all the coats needed to start to build this up (although at least it doesn't clump). The formula seems to be thin and on the dry side. The mascara is decent for lengthening but does very little for volume, and doesn't earn any points for pigmentation or finish either.
The biggest plus this mascara has going for it IMHO is the cute hippie-style wooden tube it is in. Otherwise, there are plenty of mascaras out there for a third of the price of this that give you twice the impact on your lashes.
Update: Used only a few times and every time, I had eyelashes falling out after I washed it off. Have never had this happen with any other mascara. I would literally lose 4 or 5 lashes off each eye. Definitely steer clear of this one!
I really like this mascara. I bought in a duo set from Qvc when they were running it at a special price. The formula is very user friendly. It really brings out every lash, truly volumizing and uplifting. If I cry a little it doesn't run and smear all over my face. I don't end up with any flakies on my cheeks at the end of the day even when the tube got to be about two months old. I like the wood/bamboo style packaging. But most of all I love how lovely my lashes look ;) needless to say I am on auto- delivery now.
I wanted this one to work out so bad. It has good pigment, doesn't flake, isn't too crispy (though not as soft as L'oreal Voluminous, I have not found another mascara that creates that much thickness and yet leaves the lashes soft), has adorable packaging, and builds decent length and volume that can be built up. Unfortunately it gave me the same problem Lights, Camera, Lashes did: falling lashes. Tarte's mascaras makes me lose lashes. I don't get it. It does have lot of alcohol in it, you can smell it in there, so maybe thats what causing it. Bummer. Back to Voluminous.
Good stuff, no clumping but brush is fat and clumsy.
This mascara is amazing. I received it as part of a set with some bronzer, a lipgloss, makeup bag and blush. I was pleasantly surprised by how much better my lashes look when I use it. They get a ton of volume and length and the formula wears like a dream. This might replace my beloved Lancome Definicils as my new HG mascara! The only thing I really don't care for is the tube is really big but the brush is perfect, not too big and not too small. I will definitely repurchase when this tube is gone.
This is my all-time favourite mascara, when I buy something else, I end up wishing I bought this. No clumping, and totally buildable without chunking. The brush is perfect, not too big like a lot of other volumising mascaras..
Now that I've been wearing it for a few weeks, I can say it's the best mascara I've tried so far! I like a lash that's still in the "natural" range, but thick and black so that I don't have to use eyeliner. (I much prefer it to Lights, Camera, Lashes! That one is more dramatic, longer, thin and separated - like a doll's eye. They're very different styles so sample both if you can) It's a little expensive, but other than that I have no complaints and lots of compliments.
- It doesn't make my eyelashes feel any different, while many other mascaras felt heavy/thick/uncomfortable
- It stays on LONG. I've had it on for 20 hours straight once, still great.
- It stays on STRONG. If I rub/scratch my eyes, it might flake a tiny bit, but it'll be okay when it would've been smudge city for other brands.
- It's kinda water-resistant. Not waterproof, you can still run it off in the shower (more time-consuming in the sink, several rinses, but very doable), but I've had no problems with teary eyes or drizzles.
- It doesn't pull while taking it off, no issues with ever tugging a lash off. You can rinse it off gently without having to scrub your lashes or anything like that. However, since it's a little water resistant, I'll use a touch of makeup remover to help it along if I'm not in the shower.
- It applies quickly and intensely - I only need one coat on one of my eyelashes, 2-3 small ones on the other (I think I have longer eyelashes on one side - or at least just easier to curl)
- Holds a curl up nicely.
- Nice deep black color.
Pretty much all I could ever ask for in a mascara.
This is a really great mascara for sensitive eyes. I have very long eyelashes to start with, so the only thing I really look for in mascara is whether or not it will make my sensitive eyes water and itch and this product doesn't. I have problems with a LOT of mascara, but so far Tarte is the only one that doesn't bother me - granted, I haven't tried more than about five different ones, mostly just ones I get samples of, but this one I actually bought and love. My ONLY problem with it is that the packaging is pretty thick. The tube looks wooden and is really wide - maybe a half inch across, so it's pretty big to carry around.
I'm a huge fan of the Tarte line, given their stance on additives and environmental responsibility etc. So I was in Sephora shopping for a new mascara and thought I'd try this one. Overall, this is a nice lengthening everyday mascara. It does nothing for volume. The rich black formula doesn't smudge, lasts all day, no flakes, and washes off with regular facial cleanser. Overall this was a really nice mascara, but I returned it in exchange for the volumizing formula. I have fairly long lashes already, so this gave me too much length and it kinda looked spidery. I need volume! But I would still recommend this to anyone looks for a mascara without all the chemicals and crap that's in most makeup these days, to add length and great for everyday. I did find it build-able too so if you wanted a more dramatic look you could use this for evening.
A smart mascara indeed! Natural looks will be best complemented with this mascara, as will days when all you need is a nice, defined, long pretty lash. The consistency of the mascara is very clean and slightly wet, although it dries so quickly. Does not fall apart or clump badly when I recurl my lashes, and I love how it has Amazonian Clay in the formula.
