Terribly drying. So "calming" it caused my face to peel after two uses. It was also too drying for my teenage sons. Crazy. Anyway, no exaggeration, my face looked YEARS OLDER after using this. A Maggie Mae/morning sun moment. Has scared me off the whole line.
I agree with the others who say that the name is misleading because this really dried out my face and it made other products I use sting. YUCK. The only reason I gave it 1 lippie was because I like the foam application. I should know better than to buy something on impulse before reading MUA.
This is a great cleanser. I use it night and day and my face feels very clean after I use it. I've read that it's too gentle to remove all makeup for some people, but for me it takes off everything (albeit I don't wear much makeup- only a bit of foundation). It is a little bit drying and I have to make sure to tone and moisturize right after. Overall, really great product and I highly recommend it to people who suffer from sensitive acne-prone skin.
I liked the packaging. It was easy to dispense and use.
However, it irritated my rosacea badly. After using it my face was much redder, dry and irritated. YMMV but I cannot recommend this for diagnosed rosacea, even though my dermatologist recommended it. I have since gone back to my high-school age standby, good old Noxema for sensitive skin, and my skin is much happier.
I have roseaca and since I have been using this, my skin has calmed down considerably. It works at least as well as the 60$ (with insurance!!) stuff my dermo recommended.
In general, I'm looking a lot less red and blotchy. Outbreaks have become rare and my skin looks a lot more normal. It does feel dryng, but I'm going to moisturise anyway- so no biggie there.
This face wash can be a bit deceiving. Even though it is ultra-calming and non-irritating, it can be a bit drying and I have combo-oily skin. I would imagine someone who has drier skin would definitely not like it, so if you have dry skin, stay away from it!
That said. I love to use it in the morning. One to two pumps is all it takes and it thoroughly removes any leftover products that I've used overnight. If I didn't use anything the night before (which is 1-2 times per week) I will only use water to rinse of my face.
I like the foaming action of the cleanser, Just the right amount comes out and there is not a lot of waste. One bottle has lasted me months already! It's a great drugstore bargain and I will be repurchasing.
For reference: I have combination-oily skin, and have moderately sensitive skin
Overall Rating: 4
Packaging Quality: 3
Would I buy this again: Yes. Already have 3 times
I first picked up this product because while going up and down the skin care aisle, this was one of the very few facial cleansers that did NOT have Sulfates, which I am heavily allergic to.
1) I am not allergic to this. Such a plus for me personally
2) Actually calms down my face, but no drastic calming if you know what I mean. This calms down my face moderately where you see a difference
3) Affordable at $6.99 to 7.99, although I always like it when prices are cheaper :)
4) Has a pump.
1) As another reviewer has mentioned, if you don't moisturize your face afterwards, your face feels "tight". But since I do moisturize (with Aveeno Ultra Calming moisturizer), my face doesn't get that super tight feeling.
2) Doesn't seem to last long for me. I read another member's review that it lasted them a few months, but for me, it lasts maybe a month and a half, which I find not a long time. I thought it would last around 2 months, but maybe it's because it's my fault. I might have pumped out more than I should. I'll do 2 pumps now instead of 3.
Edit, did not have Rosacea, my facial redness comes from an underlying illness and is iunder control now. I don't use Aveeno products because most if not all contain oats and I'm gluten intolerant I now know.I have Rosacea for 2 1/2 yrs and until finding this cleanser last spring, I found noting my super-sentive skin could tolerate. I went mos with just using water, or water mixed with Aveeno bath powder (makes more of a paste or mask). I could not get my skin to feel clean though. This has helped me so much. It is calming to an extent, but to me the most important thing is that product not make my condition worse. This never aggravates it. My mom used it after she had a large burn on her arm and it itched as it healed. again, this was the only thing that helped and let her fully cleanse off her prescribed, thick, ointment.
At times I still mix it with the Aveeno powder (and sometimes a bit of thr Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion), and cover my face with that while i shower so the heat won't both my skin as much, nor will shampoo/conditioner if a little touches my face. I cannot find this in drugstores, however, I go toa small, pravetly owned pharmacy where they oder me a few bottles at a time with no extra charge. I know others have found it at drigstore.com.
The value is also great, around $6.99, and lasts me a few months. My niece and nephew used it this summer when they had bug bites and it also helped. This is really good stuff!
I have combo dry skin and I bought this because my normal cleanser is too drying to use during the winter months. This product is OK. It does a decent job of cleansing, but if I'm not careful it can leave certain parts of my face really dry. I can't use it every day because of that.
I have only used this product a few nights but wanted to share. This winter I have been blessed (not so) with a nice dry patch right on my chin. It is opposite a nice crop of pimples, go figure. So I chose this to try en leu of Cetaphil gentle cleanser sine that was too lotiony. I love the consistency and I love anything in a pump. The only thing I have against it is that if I do not moisturize immediately my face tightens up quickly. I didn't think that I had migrated to full on DRY skin as we delved into Winter, I would still consider myself a combination type of gal. I'm no quite sure if I would really recommend this for someone who truly does have DRY skin, it may be a bit too much. One other contributing factor to this experience could be the hard water I have in my area. So I will say if you have softer water you may be fine. In conclusion I definitely LIKE this product, I even really like it alot. It pros outweigh the itty-bitty con. I will update if anything horrible happens or if my opinion changes. As it stands now I will repurchase.
