This was one of my first LUSH purchases, and I really like it, my skin is always all over the place, and this feels like it gets it nice and clean, takes away the excessive oiliness without making your skin feel tight and dry. At first wasn't too sure of the smell, but have gotten used to it now!!
I love this product! I love the deep clean it gives my skin, and the gentle exfoliation is just perfect. I have fair skin with an oily t-zone, and since Ive been using this product, I have less breakouts on my chin and blackheads are greatly diminished. My pores are noticeably smaller too. I use a few drops of Trilogy Rosehip oil on my face straight after, taking care to use the minimum on my chin. My skin has never looked better! Its a little pricey, but it lasts for ages. Not a fan of the wax paper packaging, and don't like having an ugly old tupperware container holding my precious. But other than the superficial complaints, I give this product 10/10 for being so good to my skin. And thats what really matters.
nope, wasn't feeling this soap. never felt that deep clean feel, and it was just too drying. I felt strange washing my skin with black bar soap, I felt that it was getting contaminated with bacteria, as I left it on the edge of my tub day in and day out and becuase it's a dark soap, who knows if fungus was growing on it. So eventually i chucked it because it just started to weird me out too much.
I've always like the idea of a charcoal cleanser because of its ability to draw out impurities and control oil which i have as a mask from origins. and I wanted to simplify my routine. Unfortunatley it didn't work for me or maybe it just worked too well. It not only stripped the oil from my skin, but the more i used it the more red and flaky and generally crap and sore my skin looked and no moisturiser seemed to help. it took a while for my skin to go back to its normal state.
I have slightly dry skin and although I liked it at first it has really dried out my skin. The smell is kind of like liqurice. I live in a hard water area and it doesn't lather up well, especially when you've used it a couple of times and the rough edge is gone, so you might need to just wet it and put it straight onto your face while rubbing your face with water. I don't notice any beads in it at all.
Love this stuff. Since using it I've never had better skin in my entire life. I was slightly oily in the T-Zone and since using this its balanced out my face and the rosewood has helped refine my skin texture.
I love the coal stuff! This reminds me of the Bulgarian black cleanser I used to use that was also made of charcoal and got rid of pimples but it stunk up the whole house and half the hood. Anyway coalface is just like this but smells amazing! I can't believe what this stuff has done for my pores! Tight pores that aren't as visible as before. I have really oily skin so coal face does not dry me out but it does leave my face matte and very clean. My face is literally squeaky clean, thats great, I haven't tried a cleanser that has done that in so long. Acne is not eliminated but it is kept at bay and anyway bp takes care of that job. The little bits of coal exfoliate great and I love how fast this cleanser lathers up! I hate using bar soap because most take time to lather up but this is like seconds! I think a bar of coal face will last months and the packaging is awesome because there is none! Most other companies waste their money on flashy packaging and the product does not even live up. I don't even care that I have to use a different cleanser for the eyes, I don't really want to exfoliate them anyway. What's up with Paula Begoun bashing lush on her review thingie. She said she'd rather wash her face in a fireplace than use coal face. Ha!
I used Coal Face for about 6-7 months alternating with Aquamarina when I felt especially oily. At first I loved it, thought it would be my HG....would have given it 5 lippy's, my skin was much more matte, pimples were infrequent. But over time I realized that although I wasn't getting nearly as much cystic acne or plain old white heads, but I was now getting blackheads in places that I NEVER had them. I always had them around my nose, ok, I'm used to that, but suddenly I had monster black heads on my cheeks, jaw line, even by my eyebrows. So ultimately the light bulb above my head went off and I realized it must be the coal face. I switched to Carleys (purchased on ebay), I started on 2/8, using their bar soap, treatment, and day and night moisturizers.....the black heads on my face have now totally diminished, still have a few I need to get out, but overall there is a huge different in my skin from using Carleys.
Coal face had preformed pretty well as a cleanser for me. It controls oil well, and removes makeup. I don't mind the smell at all. It doesn't really small that much anyway. The only thing I dislike is that the little grains aren't distributed evenly in the cleanser. There is a layer just below the surface, making it extremely rough and very exfoliating, but after you get through that layer; it has no exfoliating effect at all.
I like this stuff and even like the scent! It may be a bit weird to some people, but I like the non-perfumey quality. It may overly cleanse my combo/acne prone skin in the winter months - it has little beads of grit in it that may overstiumulate my oil glands when my skin's feeling sensitive. But it's great in the summer months.
As with most LUSH products, I hate the fact that they just cut your product from an unwrapped slab that anyone can touch/breathe on, especially when it's going on my acne-prone face. That truly grosses me out!
