I love the coal stuff! This reminds me of the Bulgarian black cleanser I used to use that was also made of charcoal and got rid of pimples but it stunk up the whole house and half the hood. Anyway coalface is just like this but smells amazing! I can't believe what this stuff has done for my pores! Tight pores that aren't as visible as before. I have really oily skin so coal face does not dry me out but it does leave my face matte and very clean. My face is literally squeaky clean, thats great, I haven't tried a cleanser that has done that in so long. Acne is not eliminated but it is kept at bay and anyway bp takes care of that job. The little bits of coal exfoliate great and I love how fast this cleanser lathers up! I hate using bar soap because most take time to lather up but this is like seconds! I think a bar of coal face will last months and the packaging is awesome because there is none! Most other companies waste their money on flashy packaging and the product does not even live up. I don't even care that I have to use a different cleanser for the eyes, I don't really want to exfoliate them anyway. What's up with Paula Begoun bashing lush on her review thingie. She said she'd rather wash her face in a fireplace than use coal face. Ha!

I used Coal Face for about 6-7 months alternating with Aquamarina when I felt especially oily. At first I loved it, thought it would be my HG....would have given it 5 lippy's, my skin was much more matte, pimples were infrequent. But over time I realized that although I wasn't getting nearly as much cystic acne or plain old white heads, but I was now getting blackheads in places that I NEVER had them. I always had them around my nose, ok, I'm used to that, but suddenly I had monster black heads on my cheeks, jaw line, even by my eyebrows. So ultimately the light bulb above my head went off and I realized it must be the coal face. I switched to Carleys (purchased on ebay), I started on 2/8, using their bar soap, treatment, and day and night moisturizers.....the black heads on my face have now totally diminished, still have a few I need to get out, but overall there is a huge different in my skin from using Carleys.

Coal face had preformed pretty well as a cleanser for me. It controls oil well, and removes makeup. I don't mind the smell at all. It doesn't really small that much anyway. The only thing I dislike is that the little grains aren't distributed evenly in the cleanser. There is a layer just below the surface, making it extremely rough and very exfoliating, but after you get through that layer; it has no exfoliating effect at all.

I like this stuff and even like the scent! It may be a bit weird to some people, but I like the non-perfumey quality. It may overly cleanse my combo/acne prone skin in the winter months - it has little beads of grit in it that may overstiumulate my oil glands when my skin's feeling sensitive. But it's great in the summer months.

As with most LUSH products, I hate the fact that they just cut your product from an unwrapped slab that anyone can touch/breathe on, especially when it's going on my acne-prone face. That truly grosses me out!

I have finally found the cleanser that is perfect for my skin with this soap. I actually came upon it as a fluke, hitting up LUSH during a buy one, get one sale and was actually going to get Fresh Farmacy, but picked up Coal Face as my 'free' product. It is a products that I would highly recomment to my fellow mid-twenty, fickle-and-oily skinned ladies. The scent isn't actually as bad as I expected it to be, and it's mildly exfoliating as well (but not too much for everyday use). I wouldn't recomment you use it around the eye area, but it keeps my T-Zone grease-free throughout the day, and doesn't overdry my cheeks (or any other place that isn't ususally oily). I will continue to use and buy this soap until my skin matures further and requires something else.

This is the best product for oily skin ever. It's supposed to have lots of charcoal in it that's more course as opposed to the finely milled coal that makes it black, but I always seem to buy chunks that don't have much course coal in them... that said, it still works wonders, and if I get a gritty bit, so much the better. Probably the kindest way to wash oily skin. I still get the odd breakout, but that will always happen, this has got it to minimum frequency, which no other cleanser ever has.

I have exceptionally oily skin, and normally I can skip moisturising, but with this you'll really have to or you'll skin won't thank you for it. Enzymion is marvellous and doesn't irritate my sensitive skin.

My skin feels so smooth and clean when I use this bar of facial soap! I love that it's black and looks so untraditional in my bathroom, but apart from that it really does what it claims to. No spots whatsoever since i have started using this, and the coal has really helped get rid of blackheads and shininess. I like the small amount of exfoliation I get as well, because I found that harsher exfoliants take such a toll on my skin. The smell is pleasant to me now, like a chimney and sweet licorice but not dirty. Other reviewers have said it before but I will reiterate: this does not take off makeup. 1 for packaging because there IS no packaging, but still a good product. For reference I have normal skin with very small pores.

My skin is very oily and acne-prone. I've been using Dove Baby Wash for the past 7-8 years and while I'm very satisfied with that as a cleanser, I wanted to look for something different. Coal Face is very different than Dove Baby Wash. First, off it's a black block of soap that has a very earthy smell to it. After washing with Coal Face my face feels and looks fresh and clean. It's very good at removing all traces of my makeup, doesn't leave my skin feeling tight and/or dry and I've not had a single break out. In fact, upon closer examination of my skin, my pores look smaller and my face is smooth and clear. I store this in a rubbermaid container with a lid. I've been using it every night for the past month and I know I will repurchase when I'm finished my block - which will probably be a very long time from now.

i tried to love this product since i bought it for 10 USD (i'm cheap, ok? lol). however, it didn't do anything for my skin except strip it dry. i didn't really feel like it cleaned my face that well either. when i wear eye makeup and use eye makeup remover i still always get a bit of leftover under my eyes and normal cleansers usually finished the job, but not this. however, i did give this to my bf who has a very low maintenance face and it's working well for him (and "well" meaning that it's as good as any bar of body soap).

I used it for a while and found it dry my skin a bit. It's winter now so I think during summer it would be perfect. That was the only problem. But it does very well what's it says it does,it cleans your skin thoroughly and fights the spots. My skin cleared up really well, though I was also using some LUSH masks at the same time as well.I think for now I'll use aqua marina and in the summer I'll try coalface again.I would definitely recommend it!
