I used this for 15 years and then they changed it a few years back and I just couldn't use it. The smell was so over the top, that it gave me a headache and hayfever symptoms. Trying to find something else has been really challenging - it's amazing with as many conditioners as there are out there -- how few actually work - (but I despise silicone and/or protein on my hair - so it's even more limited.) I gave this another try for old times sake and it was still - horrible. I just found it so overwhelming - with the smell and the consistency being so much thicker than it used to be. It used to be such a great, consistent, wonderful product that gave me gorgeous hair and now it's pure trash. It's way too drying and the smell is ridiculous. I loved the old formula Conditioning Balm...and I, of course, sent them an email telling them to bring it back, not that it will do any good, since they were bought out by Loreal. Update: Watering this down helped, but the smell was still way too strong and made me congested. After trying every conditioner I could think of, I ended up trying the Generic Version at Sally's and I like it very much. The smell is way softer and I don't react to it, plus the formula is lighter and I don't have to water it down. To me, it's closer to the old formula and I like it quite a bit....crazy.

Oh, how I love this stuff, although I have only used it once now.. so it's too early to be so sure! :) But, my hair has been going crazy in the weather changes here (5% humidity jumped to 80%!), and so I needed to calm my hair down - as it was frizzing beyond what I am used to! I have fine, wavy, long hair that I blow dry.. and it's pretty much no-fuss.. smooth, soft, and easy to manage. After the weather changes, I tried the sleek look s&c, and AWFUL stuff. My hair was still frizzy, but felt weird, too. Instead, I researched MUA and decided upon Paul Mitchell Shampoo One, which I used in conjunction with this conditioner. I worked it into my hair real well (about a quarter-sized amount) and I could feel the difference! Left it in for a few minutes while finishing up my shower, and now, after styling, my hair is calm, soft, and not weighed down at all! I'm not sure if I can use this every day (bummer!), but it's a great addition to my tub - and I will use it 1-2x a week, unless it begins to fail me! Smells wonderful - I love all things Biolage-scented. Clean!

This is such a good moisturizing product. It really does soften and moisturize your hair. The big tub had plenty of product in it, so i think the price is justified. The only bad thing is that it can weigh down your hair if it's fine, so i only use it once a week.

This doesn't condition enough for my long hair. After a month of using this my hair was drier and harder to manage. It doesn't help to detangle and doesn't seem to fortify hair since I was seeing split ends. Can't say much about this conditioner except that it washes out cleanly. I was using it with the hydrating shampoo.

i love this product. it moisturizes my hair significantly better than most other conditioners. it smells nice but its very expensive. however, it lasts rather a long time. i put it on and put my hair in a shower cap to bake for a few minutes and my hair is nice and soft afterwards. i would definitely purchase this product again

Matrix changed the formula of this conditioner and it is no where near the same as the previous formula. It now dries out my hair and leaves a nasty residue. It does not smell good like the previous formula did. I am not buying this until they go back to the previous formula. I know they changed it because I saved the tub with the previous packaging and the ingredients are wayyy different. Matrix, stop changing the formulas!!

I am now on my 4th tube of this - I love it. I have thick, curly/wavy and frizzy hair, and this conditioner is great because it's so concentrated that I don't need to use much. I just cut my hair to below shoulder length after being down to my waist for a long time, and even when it was long, I only had to use the size of a walnut. Now, I only need half that - the consistency is very thick. My hair is smoother, easier to comb as a result. It also smells great. Definitely found my HG conditioner.

I have naturally curly, long hair that has a tendency to get a bit dry, though not to the point that I've quit using shampoo altogether. I rarely heat style my hair so it's not very damaged, and this conditioner does moisturize very well without feeling too heavy (I can use it daily, but I typically only use it 1-3 times a week, or the next time I wash after heat styling). It makes my hair very soft and manageable, and quickly eliminates tangles. I love that it's silicone free so there's no buildup, so it can be used by those who don't shampoo. The smell is okay, nothing special but not offensive either. I don't care much for the jar packaging, but it's a bit thick to put in a bottle, so I guess it works for the larger size (you can also get it in a smaller squeezable tube, which I haven't tried, I always buy the large container). I haven't had a problem getting excess water in it in the shower or anything, so while I don't like having to unscrew the lid from the jar, it serves it's purpose well enough. Overall I really like this product, and I'm currently on my second jar of it. I'll continue to repurchase this as one of my daily conditioners (I rotate several kinds), but I'm still on the search for an HG deep conditioning, occasional treatment. I think it would make a good deep conditioner for someone with less dry hair who just wants a nice moisture boost about once a week, great to use 2-3 times a week for someone like me with slightly dryer hair, and great as a daily conditioner for someone with really dry or damaged hair (but if this is the case, you'll probably need something more hydrating for a deep conditioning treatment).

Is there some confusion on MUA or are there really 3 different matrix biolage conditioning balms?

Well my tube says - conditioning balm from the hydratherapie line.

Price paid - ebay, $4.00, 250 ml, with shipping, $7.50. Was it worth it? My hair feels like silk, the product smells amazing, and even though i use a lot (i have a lot of hair), it was totally worth the price - totally. Also, i love the tube - great marketting/packaging on this product - gives that clean, fresh, organic, minimalist feel.

I wont use this all the time - only in conjunction with the conditioning shampoo and Nexxus emergencee reconstructor. I've used the combo already 5 times and my hair is luxurious, soft, and healthier looking. It's amazing!

For my every day condition? well, i'll stick with my herbal essences moisturizing conditioner (new bottle - blue), with this conditioner as an "on the side deep conditioner" treatment. :)

This conditioner is my all-time favorite conditioner. I am the pickiest person when it comes to hair products, but this stuff has withstood the test of time for me. I began using it about ten years ago, and while the scent has changed a little, it's still the best dish for my hair. I abuse my hair regularly with blowdrying and curling, and I have my hair highlighted every 6 weeks. With my hair reaching the middle of my back, all the dryness and damage really sticks out! Generally I wash my hair every other day. After I shampoo, I slather on a thick coat of this stuff (and it is a little like Crisco) and slap on a shower cap while I complete my shower. Upon rinsing, my hair is so smooth and smells fantastic! I have never had any trouble with buildup with this product, and it doesn't contain any silicones in case your a cone phobe. This is definitely the best!! I used this as a conditioner only wash with AMAZING results! I put equal amounts of conditioner and water in a cup and used a small handheld mixer to whip it into a frothy foam. Then in the shower I got my hair thoroughly wet and massaged the foam into my scalp and hair. I put a shower cap on and left the mix in my hair for 15 minutes. When I rinsed, my hair was super soft. I thought it would take forever to dry, but it didn't! It dried as if I had shampooed, but it was much softer, glossier, with more body, and the waves were so much more defined! If you have curly or wavy hair you'll love it!!
