The following is my review of Lancome's Genifique after three weeks use:
1. The good ~
*The bottle design is both aesthetically pleasing and sanitary. I love the graduated black color and the tincture system of delivery.
*My face did indeed become smoother and soft after using the product...but read #3.
*I purchased along w/a kick a** bonus that included a cleanser that I absolutely love!!
2. The bad ~ Although alcohol was probably added to the product for fast absorption, it definitely dried out the skin around my chin area for a few days. I had some major peeling that didn't subside for a while.
3. The very bumpy ~ Hmmm....I had major acne flare ups on my the sides of my cheeks and the lower part of my face. My face was crystal clear before use and now it is....rife w/acne! I don't know if this attributed to the salicylic type of ingredient in the product. Or that I need to change my Clarisonic brush head that is way overdue! Or the stress of economic times. Or that time of the month.
So, I will update a few weeks later and see.
i used this for almost three weeks trying to give it a fair trial. i wanted this to work for me.
it did seem to help with the skin cushioning and i think it was shrinking my pores too.
however, this gave me acne!!! it was the only thing new that i was using on my skin and definately know this was giving me the acne so i returned it. by the way, i have dry, sensitive skin.
After using this entire line for 3 weeks, I can safely say I am very disappointed in it. Did NOTHING for my skin and wasn't very hydrating either. The eye cream is particulary ineffective.
I like Genifique a lot. I won't say I love it yet I've been using it for two months. It makes my skin feel like its bouncy and seems to smooth out my skin.
I did break out a little from this at first until my skin got used to adding it to the routine but that is fairly normal for me being sensitive with a new product.
Not sure with the price if I would purchase this again but its very nice.
I tried this through a whole bunch of large samples my SA gave me before buying & I'm glad I did. After a weeks use, my face was full of pimples. After two weeks I was embarrassed to leave the house, it was so bad. It did go on smooth & absorb fast, & it may have helped with radiance or youth if I had used for longer, but the massive breakout it gave me negated any good it may have done. Apparently this is not uncommon - it is reportedly breaking out alot of people so my recommendation is to get samples before you buy.
There are unfortunately many ignorant comments regarding this product. This product has more to it than bifida ferment and hyaluronic acid Two ingredients to note also: HYDROXYETHYLPIPERAZINE ETHANE SULFONIC ACID has been shown to improve skin tone and skin texture. The other ingredient that is patented and possibly the most beneficial and "active ingredient" in this product is SALICYLOLYL PHYTOSPHINGOSINE. According to the INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF COSMETIC SCIENCE this new ingredient has been shown to reduce the depth of fine lines and wrinkles, fade sunspots, and smooth rough skin texture in photo damaged skin.
While doing a google search on SP it also looks like it is compared to Retin-A but without the irritation, is an anti-bacterial, and is used in hospitals on patients that have undergone skin grafting. It also appears that it's action is on the first(top) layers of skin, so the benefits are noticed more quickly.
I have used this product for only two days but I am very impressed. I have sensitive skin and this seems to calm my skin instead of irritating it. Like many other reviews here it leaves my skin looking rather radiant and matte the first time I used it. Do not let this immediate cosmetic improvement fool you, it has active ingredients that have been proven to work in unbiased testing outside of Lancome's much touted tests.
The product goes on nicely, but I wouldn't read the 40 person experiment as a true clinical study proving results (just read the fine print). This product is Lancome's claim on a solution for decreased ability of skin proteins to address oxidation that comes with aging/sun-exposure -- a yeast formula that other lines like Estee Lauder have as well. The rest of this serum is alcohol, fragrance and a binding agent. Why not add a healthy dose of anti-oxies?
I'm left confused with Lancome, once again. Last time I just couldn't understand why their SPF15 doesn't have full spectrum UVA and UVB protection.
Perhaps next time...
Well, I guess I'll throw my two cents in. I bought the product roughly a month ago on impulse not based on need. I do feel like my skin looks smoother after using it. My only issue is that the salesperson at the counter literally could not explain this to me without reading from the promotional materials. So, who knows what it is actually doing, but my skin does show a positive improvement.
UPDATE: This product now makes me get tiny hard pimples under the skin of my forehead. My forehead felt like sandpaper if I ran my hand over it. I know the problem is genefique because the problem went away after discontinuing use. After my forehead cleared up, started using genefique again and problem came back. NOTE: Tried this with L'Oreal version and same thing happened.
i'm sorry to say - but the 2 review's below me , esp of "lcascaden" sound very commercial and almost taken from a Lancome seller or worker. it doesn't seems one of a Real Reviewer - and i don't like it.
as for the product -
the package is briiliant - it's kinda dropper that you can take Exactley the amanout and not a drop more.
but what's more important is - does the product do something - i can't tell yet.
skin Does, however look and feels softer.
and it seems to go well under many other products.
I always tend to be a bit of a skeptic when it comes to the claims of cosmetic companies, and I was no less skeptical when my beauty consultant gave me a couple of sample tubes of Genifique. I admit I was a bit concerned about the inference of genetic modification I was reading - are we going to be growing broccoli on our foreheads? I read the Lancome literature on the subject and checked the first couple of reviews that were posted on MUA and forged ahead. I just purchased my first bottle - I think that pretty much sums up what I thought of the product. It's fabulous. After a month, my skin is entirely different, it's much smoother and has a much more elastic quality about it. However, one caveat to the curious here. If you do your research you'll see that Lancome extols the virtues of this products for those with skin up to a certain age. In fact, there's a clear indication in their own literature that there is a "tipping point". Genifique is designed to preserve the genetic regenerative pathways in the skin - it is not the usual anti-wrinkle skin plumper. Reading between the lines, if you start using this product say, in your sixties, you're probably too late - those pathways have to still be there in order for the product to work. Now, despite that, some have suggested that this product does facilitate better absorption of other products into the skin and that's likely a good thing.
So thumbs up from me, I'll let you know if I need to start crop rotation :)
