Sheer Cover seems to cover well but tended to cause mild breakouts. The brush sheds everywhere, all the time, so I would recommended getting a different one. The key to this product is dipping whatever brush you use in a little water first and then tapping it in the powder. This way, the product is slightly more like a foundation and covers much, much better.
For me, this was a very 'meh' product. DEFINITLY better than Bare Escentuals, but still not awesome. The lightest color in the light kit was a great match for my skintone. When you initally put this on, it gives you a VERY SHEER finish, which I like. You can dab your finger in the pot and pat it on any red blemishes and they disappear, then wait about ten mins and make sure to wipe any excess powder off the spot so it looks natural. I would never recommend this to anyone who didn't have very good skin to begin with. I can't even imagine how bad this would look on someone with bad acne, scarring, ect. as it does not cover anything at all....it is basically like a sheer pressed powder from the drug store. It feels like a cream on your skin in that it is slightly sticky/tacky and will remain like that all day, though since I keep my hands off my face I don't mind. The main brush it comes with is AFUL....I was literally spitting out bristles because it sheds soooooo much. and doesn't stop shedding. ever. I was very disappointed at the size of the products. I bought the 29.99 kit off the tv which they make look like a lot of product, but if you use this every day it will probably last about 8 days. veeery tiny. also, the free lip/highlighter/eyeliner palette that looks gigantic on tv is about 3 inches around. veeeeeeery tiny. The finish of the foundation powder is a nice matte with just a tad bit of shine to it. Beware putting too much on, you will have a cake face. Also, after wearing for about 5 hours you will need to wash and re-apply everything as the powder begans to sit on top of the skin and look rather cakey . overall, I will use what I have on days when I am only going out for a short time, but I will not buy it again.
UPDATE: Will not use this anymore. After trying to wear this a few more times, it is just too obvious that the finish isn't smooth and doesn't 'melt' into your skin....I prefer my plain cover girl powder to this! bleh....makes me sad it is so disappointing. going up for swap.
Rip Off! Big time. Ok so aside from charging me a surprise $90 and sending me a bunch of crap this makeup is so-so. I ordered light, it wasn't light enough. The brushes were below average (and made of real hair). I thought the face wash and moisturizer were ok but overpriced. Same goes for the mascara. I did like the little sample compact. The hight lighters and lip glosses were nice but not worth the $$. One thing I LOVED was the concealer, though i wish it was just light, the coverage was good for me.
One bonus, i demanded a refund when they sent me a 30 day supply, they credited my account beore i even returned the product and i decided to keep it just to spite them. I also cancelled my credit card so they can't screw with me anymore. So all in all I ended up with a free 90 day supply for my trouble. I'll use it up because the foundation does have decent coverage and it lasts all day. When its gone, its gone though. AND i saw it on tv again, its like $10.
UPDATE: this is the worst. for the amount of produuct its liek the most expensive mmu out there. and defiently the shadiest company ever. try EVERYDAY MINERALS- free samples best selection and great prices def my HG minerals
EDIT!!! I had no idea but they put me on autoship!!! I saw this in another review but didn't realize I was in this as well. BE WARNED OF THIS SCAM!
I wanted to like this. I am typically oily but currently using Retin-A which makes my skin dry and flaky. But I use heavy cream to take away the flakes. As soon as I put this stuff on my skin has a shimmering look, making my pores look like soup bowls. My skin peels so much it looks like I have burns all around my mouth. I am really disappointed. Plus the packaging is pretty terrible, impossible to close the lid back on the product. Don't bother. I did just order Alima Mineral Makeup due to the glowing reviews on here. I hope it's a lot better
I actually like Sheer Cover but it took me many tries to come up with the right primer/applicator combo. I have fallen in love with the ERA airbrush spray on primer (under everything!) Then, because my face needs even more refining after that, I use Skindinavia's primers - one on my oily T-zone and the other around my eyes and on my face. The only way I can get Sheer Cover to look great - and I mean GREAT as in natural, not too maskey and it really covers all my redness, blotches and red marks from pimples - is to use Tricia Sawyer's Face brush that comes with her cotton face powder. It is big, full but flat on top and is not too soft or hard. I have many, many brushes and this is the ONLY one that seems to work like this. I put a very tiny amount in the lid of the container, swirl the brush around in it, tap it down hard a couple of times to kind of 'pack ' in the powder and then start buffing like a mad woman. I got this idea from another review on a MMU - the woman said she buffed her brand A LOT and it really made a difference in the finish on her skin. My daughter has always liked SC because it does cover better than any other MMU we've tried (about 10 brands) but on my aging skin, I could never get it to look natural - too powdery. I buff and buff and buff and buff. A little goes a very long way and my skin glows when I'm done and I don't usually even need a concealer. This stuff COVERS. It's like a magic eraser. It does not break my face out or irritate it in any way and I have very sensitive, acne prone skin still. I did not give it a 5 because it does seem to dry my skin which is very oily in the summer, but dry in the Winter. I love the Finishing Powder, too, but they have discontinued that. I like it better than any other. So now I am looking for a MMU for the winter months - I will try LaurEss next, I think...
This is the only mineral makeup I can wear. B.E and a bunch of drugstore brands I've tried all make my face itch like mad.
Let me say I use B.E. and have for several years but every once in awhile I try new foundations. I was almost sucked in by the infommercial because it claims Sheer Cover is better than the other well-known mineral makeup. I was curious. Thank GOD I came to my senses and got it from a swap. Everything about Sheer Cover is cheap. The packaging, the brushes, and yes, the minerals. The plastic is cheap and the lids do not smoothly twist on and off like B.E. The brushes are cheap, synthetic, porcupine like brushes. SOOO unlike B.E. The minerals give off an odor unlike B.E. and do not feel smooth on my skin. I think one either likes mineral makeup or not. If you are looking to try a good mineral makeup this is not it. Bare Escentuals is so much better. UPDATE: I have recently learned that B.E. contains an ingredient ( Bismuth Oxychloride) that cause iching in some people. Granted the majority of people do not react in that manner. Also, store brand minerals are not all natural...most, if not all, include talc and other preservatives. Look at your ingredient list before purchasing. I have also learned that Everyday Minerals is not only all natural but does not include the "itching ingredient" found in B.E. If B.E. does not work for you, try Everyday Minerals. But I stand behind my claim that sheer cover is cheap. Sheer cover also contains Bismuth Oxychloride.
11/2/07 I have to add that for cool, fair to light skin tones, BE does not seem to have that perfect match tho all fair and light minerals are forgiving and can be worn. Sheer cover's bisque works on my cool skin tone the best so I will try B.E.'s bisque concealer with a full coverage brush and use as my foundation. Everyday Minerals has one of the most comprehensive color choices I have seen and I hope to try that soon.
I'm torn with this stuff. I loved it last winter but in the summer I got all oily and sweaty. It looked terrible. I know a lot of people change their make-up by season but that just dissapointed me. Good price and it made my skin look flawless...but only from December-April!
ugh... i must've been in some crazy mood or it was a full moon when i ordered this stuff off the tv. the foundation's pretty good but the powder either didn't look like anything or looked cake-y. definitely needed to cancel right away before they started sending those auto-shipments.
The formula was long-wearing, and applied well, but the mixing the 2 shades together.....I think that's a bunch of CRAP that just makes it easier for the company to market. Noone should have to mix and guess, mix some more just to get the right makeup shade, since you are paying good $$$$ for it. They should break it down and offer a few shades in LIGHT and a few in the Lt/Med category, and so on.......they just classify everyone as Lt., med, tan, and dark and then you gotta do all the other work. And, you waste alot of product trying to get the right shade.I would probably be a faithful user if they took a little more time to develop some more specific shades, but I'm not going to pay the money and have to do the chemist's work for them.
Otherwise, if you don't mind mixing and wasting the product, and have all the free time on your hands, you may love this. I have pretty much normal skin that can get a tad oily in the t-zone, and I have no complaints about the makeup itself.......although you can't take it with you for touch-ups during the day because that would be a BIG MESS.
