I first tried this mascara after being totally disappointed with Coup de Theatre.Max was such a big surprise - I've been using other mascaras from this brand, and all of them were worthed buying, but this one is,in my opinion, the best mascara ever ,as it offers both length - amazing length!- and volume ,not to mention its deep black shade which doesn't fade throughout the day. After trying an array of products from different brands,I am happy and relieved to say that I found a mascara that i'm going to stick to,as it offers everything I could possibly expect from a mascara, and more!
I had the Masterpiece mascara and that was good so I decided to give the Max a go. It's thicker than the original, and a more dramatic effect. I love it coz I always get panda eyes with mascaras and only Shu Uemura Basic and the Masterpieces don't seem to get that effect. Great staying power, and definitely a keeper!
I loved the original masterpiece but it dried up after about a month, and even though I could still use it it kept flaking off in my eyes. Anyway I thought id try this one. But it looked really fake, thick and clumpy. And im not into the natural look, my fave mascara is faux cils BUT this just looked bad fake, not good fake. I couldn get it to stop clumping either which i never had a problem with with the original mascara. Also i really loved the original masterpiece for the day too, my lashes looked wow but not scarily fake and caked on with mascara like with this one :( will not repurchase
I am enjoying this mascara which works well on my longish but fine and fair (ie I have to dye them) eyelashes. It doesn't flake, or smudge and lasts well. I actually prefer it to the original Masterpiece which was a little drying for me, but on the whole I prefer 2000 calories which for me seems more conditioning.
I really like this - it gives length and definition and doesn't clump. You can use 1 coat for a natural look and 3 or 4 to really vamp it up! It's also a good black and the brush is lovely and easy to use.
It doesn't give quite as much volume as Lancome's Hypnose but it is a lot cheaper so I think I will be sticking with this for now. It doesn't smudge as much as other mascaras I have tried and doesn't irritate my rather sensitive eyes. Hate the look of the packaging but that's a pretty minor quibble!
EDIT: I am totally sold on this. It smudges less than Hypnose and doesn't become dry in the tube so fast. I get lots of compliments on it and won't wear anything else - one coat for day, 4 for evening!
I bought this to replace the YSL Faux Effet Cils I had been using as I thought that was pretty useless and flaked all over my upper cheeks/under eye area. This is an adequate volumising mascara. The brush is ok and does gently cover all hairs, even little ones. It takes a few coats to achieve the look I want but what mascara doesn't these days?? I give it 3 lippies as its a middle-of-the-road mascara IMO. I might re-buy this one (I picked yes) if my budget won't stretch to going back to Lancome!!
I used the masterpiece original and thought it was ok, but came off quite easily. This version is much better at staying on, but looks incredibly fake. It does add volume and length, but feels a little dry and cakey at times. However, as i am not on a large budget it will do, but the unnatural look is great for a night out, but not so much for everyday. It is also quite difficult to remove.
Contrary to the other posters I'm very impressed with this mascara! I only bought out of desparation as it was on special offer at Superdrug and I couldn't get my favourite Lancome Amplicils. To be honest I was expecting the worst but I have to say it works well for me. I loved the brush - the coverage is excellent. It managed to cover all my lashes including the hardly there lower ones. My lashes looked thicker and longer. The downside is I have to use at least three coats to get the effect I like so I've taken off one lippy (I'm not keen on the natural look!) But on the plus side it doesn't smudge, clump or irritate (a big plus for a contact lens wearer) and removes quite easily. For the money its as good as some high-end brands I've tried and I could easily compare the results with Clinique's High Definition lashes. It's brilliant as an 'every day' mascara and I will definately repurchase.
I think this mascara must be pretty good as I had a little cry before and it hasn't run or smudged! However, I find the texture a little dry and clumpy, not exactly 'sleek and smooth' as the packaging claims. I can't actually tell the difference between Masterpiece Max and 2000 Calorie, other than the brush. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as 2000 Calorie is the only mascara that doesn't smudge on me and I HATE its big messy brush, but I was hoping for a better formular for this one. L'oreal's Telescopic has the perfect texture in my mind, and is only let down by it's tendency to smudge over long wear. So Masterpiece Max will do for now.
I have to say I was very disappointed by this mascara. It didn't look any better than anything else I've tried, it wasn't easier to apply, and I had a problem with it clumping on my lashes, even with just one coat. I'm not sure what the difference is between Masterpiece Max and Masterpiece. The Max version sells itself as "high volume and definition mascara", so maybe it is the high volume part that is causing my lashes to clump up.
It didn't look bad, just not any better than what I'm already used to. I'll finish the (large, bulky) tube, but after that I'm moving on to something else.
