I was desperate to try something during the summer when my skin was breaking out and I tried the Acne Solutions when it first came out since there was a GWP. Bad Idea! Waste of money! The only reason why i decided to give Clinique a try was because i tried their emergency gel cream for blemishes and it worked pretty well and reduced the inflammation so much. I decided to buy the trial size package that they had and this is what happened
1. My face had red itching bumps everywhere except for my T-zone
2. My face got extremely dried out
3. My face started flaking
4.It took my poor skin a full month or more to recover.
Please do not try out this line even if you have very oily skin even the poor Clinique SA that i work with and purchased the kit with at the same time suffered the same fate.
I bought the 3 step trial system for about $35. I have been using it for 3 1/2 weeks so far and think I am going to stop as it has only made my skin red, SUPER dry, angry and has seriously only increased my acne - which wasn't THAT bad to begin with. Everything in this kit makes my skin super dry, flaking ALL over, had to use so much lotion to help my poor skin calm down. Everything felt tight tight tight after use and I haven't experienced any good side effects yet.
I was hoping that it just took a while to "pull everything out" and clear it, but after 3 1/2 weeks it seems to still only be getting worse.
I would not purchase again.
I thought this would be a really gentle product as advertised, but it did NOTHING for my skin other than cause the worst breakout in my skin's history.
This works for some people, but NOT for people like me, who have uber sensitive skin. My friends started noticing (after I used this) how red and inflamed my cheeks and nose became, and I stopped. The breakout-thank god, stopped right after.
Please use this product with caution-I believe it was the toner that caused my breakout. I bought the sample size $32 USD, so try that before spending 50 on the full size.
For a klutz like me, the packaging of the toner wasn't the best thing. I kept spilling it. Instead of making my acne better like I had hoped, it caused the blemishes to spread! My acne, once isolated to the T-zone, had now manifested in my cheeks. Even after I stopped using it, the acne didn't go away from my cheeks. Thankfully, the Macy's I bought the 3-step kit from allowed me to return it.
Save yourself the agony and don't buy it.
I can't believe how quickly this is clearing up my skin! I bought this a couple of days ago and have been using it faithfully morning and night and already my skin is clearer than it has ever been since my acne started flaring up a year ago. I have had cysts, white heads and regular zits and the white heads are already all gone, the zits are practically all dead and the cyst that I had on my cheek is more like a regular zit now. I am so pleased that I tried this stuff! I had been using Dan Kern's regimen and it just wasn't working for me. I think the double punch of salicylic acid (in the face wash and toner) and benzoyl peroxide (in the moisturizer) are exactly what my skin has needed. Its also not harsh or irritating (like retinols and vitamin C masks have been for me). I will update after I have been using it for a month, but honestly the way things are going now I am starting to wish I had taken a "before" picture.
Just a couple of tips on how I use these products:
-I use Cetaphil to remove my makeup (at night).
-After I apply the acne solutions cleanser, I massage it in for a few seconds before rinsing...maybe 15 to 20 seconds at most.
-After getting out of the shower, I let my face completely dry before applying the toner.
-And same with the toner - I let my face completely dry before applying the acne solutions moisturizer.
Love this! Nothing works on me except for this! I have acne prone skin and this just clears it up. I have never been this clear for so long!
I would so recommend this!
i love this stuff!! i had cystic acne that i just couldn;t get rid of when a woman at the clinique counter saw me walking by and suggested i try the clinique acne solutions line (yeah it was that bad). anyway i bought the starter pack for $35 and my skin cleared up within a week. i was amazed. the clearing moisturizer does not moisturize so i use neutrogena rapid clear moisturizer after the three steps and my skin has improved so much. i can walk by a mirror now and not be afraid to look. it has definitely boosted my confidence. I will never use anything else. this is the only thing that has worked for me. Love it!!
UPDATE: After about three months of using this consistently, it stopped working, i started getting massive breakouts so i quit using the last two steps. I now use the foaming cleanser and neutrogena healthy skin anti-wrinkle anti blemish cream with retinol and its working wonders on my skin. I've never felt better about my skin. So clinique turned out to be a waste of money. I was hoping my search for great skin had ended but i was wrong....hopefully the new regime will keep up the great work!!!
As far as three-step acne product lines go, this is a "no go" for me. I have had combo to oily and acne-prone (very intermittenlty) most of my life. Up until two months ago, when after a medical diagnosis I was forced to take a medication that has a potential "acne" side effect, my skin issues were controlled with a basic Health Food Store cleanser, a slightly high end moisturizer and some Camellia oil. I have not been a fan of Clinique in the past, but when acne hit again this year, a friend recommended I try this before schlepping back over to the ProActiv kiosk at the mall. Mistake.
The skin I ended up with after sticking with this exclusively for three weeks was reminiscent of the Clinique 3-Step Face nightmare I had in high school when I stupidly strayed from a dermatologist's care and bought the soap, toner and Dramatically Different combo that was so popular. Again, I was left with dry patches, redness and no relief.
I was excited about the toner the most in this system, thinking it would replace my need to use a blotting paper mid-afternoon. Nope.
So after three+ weeks, I gave the remains to the friend who had recommended it and trucked back to the ProActiv kiosk at my local shopping mall - and after two weeks, I am acne-free again.
I am 30 and am still battling acne. I have tried MD formulations (both the "adult acne" and "acne" lines, but had to stop as some of their products actually contained oil and broke me out more); Murad Acne line (felt good for 1 day, but then broke out horribly). I was skeptical before buying this particular line -- it seemed to have the same stuff as in other lines -- salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, but I was desperate. I was pleasantly suprised to say that for some reason this line works! Maybe it's because they don't put a whole bunch of bontanicals (i.e. extracts/oils) in the products so it works better for me. I do have flakiness and dry patches, but when that happens I just use a little moisturizer without BP or salicylic in it during the daytime. I guess I would rather be a little dry and flaky than having huge cystic acne on my chin and cheeks. I've only been using it for about 10 days, but so far so good -- no breakouts that I can identify that are coming from the new product use. I am keeping my fingers crossed on this line.
I have a duty to write a review for the Acne Solutions Clear Skin system. It's my lifesaver! I didn't believe a topical treatment could calm down my skin until I used this. I had tried everything from prescriptive creams to Oxy cream, Vichy Normaderm, La Roche Posay Effaclar K (the worst for me), Olay Anti-aging, anti-blemish and even Proactiv, you name it. I had no gut to take the hormonal pills because I don't want to take the risk of the side effects. This is the only topical treatment so far that stopped my breakouts. I had chronic, mild to moderate acne for over 15 years. I used to get new pimples almost every day. I'm in my mid 30s and have oily skin, but my oiliness is sure different from a teen's. I breakout mostly around the hair line and jaw line, embarrassed to say, where man grow beard where I get acne. I found the key to use this system was, never overapply it, and consider it's a medicated treatment rather than skincare product. Therefore, apply ONLY on the affected area. I found a routine that work for me, I use the cleansing foam once a day, one or two pumps, only on the affected area, then use a non-medicated mild cleanser on the rest of the face, I now use the Liquid Facial Soap Mild from GWP. Same rule applies to the other two products with twice a day. I now use 2 cleansers, 2 toners and 2 moisturizers in total. You may think it's too costy and time consuming, but I got wonderful results from that. Keep in mind, the acne solutions product is treatment, even it's called a moisturizer, it's not. So you do need regular skincare products for your normal part of skin. In terms of the cost, you may invest more at one time, but the repurchase cycle would be extended. Since I use it light-handed, for a one month trial pack, the cleanser and the toner lasted for 3 months and the moisturizer lasted for one month and a half, and who cares spend a little more time to get great results? I saw instant improvement on my skin right began with this system. Since I use them lightly, I don't find the products dry or irritating, except the toner stings if there's a broken spot on the face. I still get occasional blemishes, but this system pulled me out from the acne suffers group, and I'm finally a normal after so many years of searching and disappointment. I consider this as the biggest achievement of the year, Gracious God! The reviews for acne products are always so controversial. Everyone truly is different, and I highly recommend this system based on my experience.
