great black volume effect. stays all day and all night with no smudging. unfortunately the tube dries up quite quickly so it is an expensive habit.
So, I'm on the younger end of this age bracket but I'm very dry-skinned and use eye cream. I have no tolerance for flakes or smudges in mascara and am drawn to mascaras that "tube" the eyelash.
I so wanted to love this. I'd been keeping an eye out for it for years, based on good reviews from MUA, and found it ON SALE through the holidays when I stopped by Sephora looking for a new cologne for my husband. I snagged it. I've been giving it a shot exclusively since. It doesn't flake or smudge -- so kudos for that. The brush or formulation, though, is reliably CLUMPY, regardless of how I apply this. I'd like good pigmented color on my otherwise decent lashes -- long lower lashes; naturally curled but shorter upper lashes than I'd like. It removes as do other tube-based lashes, but the wildly unnatural, clumpy look translates to a "no repurchase," regardless of the sale price. I'm back to Fiberwig -- which I do love.

I LOVE this mascara! It is the only one that does not smudge or move at all. The way it removes is its best feature: I run some warm water over my hands, put my fingers under my eyes, blink and presto it's gone! The other make up I have on my eyes takes longer to take off! I am so happy that it's at Sephora now, not just a Neiman Marcus...

I'm really starting to think there's no such thing as a 'volumizing' mascara. It's just a pleasing euphemism for 'clumpy'. And even though this is beautifully packaged and the actual mascara is a lovely jet black, you're still just paying for clumpy lashes. I also didn't like the 'tube' effect of the formula- instead of simply washing off, it flakes off strangely as you lather and when you open your eyes it looks like you have coffee grinds on your face. I only used this a few times after purchasing because I was afraid of washing one of these flakes INTO my eye.
Kevyn is a still personal hero and his legacy is a lovely product line. But from now on, if I want volume, I'll look into Revitalash or falsies.

I've been having so much trouble with mascara melting under my eyes. I have sparse but long lashes and I really like the way that Cover Girl Lash Blast looks when I first apply it, but two hours later it's under my eyes and I have to diligently swipe it away and the sensitive skin under my eyes was going crazy!
My friend recommended this to me and I may never buy another kind of mascara again. Absolutely my HG mascara. It goes on nicely with no clumping and stays on all day with zero drift. It even survives my Zumba classes and horseback riding!
If you have trouble with mascara not staying in place, you will love this mascara. Yes, it is expensive. I just don't care. It's awesome.

This mascara is similar to the likes of Kiss Me, Mirenesse and L'oreal Beauty Tubes in that it forms a tube around the induvidual lashes and can only be removed with water. I love that because it doesn't smudge AT ALL (withstands humidity, crying, gym, wet weather etc) and is great if you take your makeup off in the shower. The formula is certainly volumizing, but can tend to be a little clumpy sometimes so I use a lash brush to separate. I like the skinny brush because it means I can get into the inner corners easily and my lower lashes without smudging it. It is however, a pain in the butt to get off if you remove your makeup at the basin. It requires a fair bit of water to remove, and doesn't easily come off with makeup remover so if I know i'm not going to be showering later, I won't use this one. The tube is very sleek, but I do find a fair bit too much product comes off on the brush so sometimes you have to blot it. So far this is the only 'tube like' waterproof mascara I have used that actually gives a fair bit of volume to the lashes, and the fact that it doesn't smudge is a winner for me so I will continue using it until I find a cheaper and equal dupe.
Really strange yet effective mascara! Overall, it does deliver volume. However, I'm really not a fan of the little tubes that form when you put on this mascara - they get all over my eyes when I take the mascara off, and end up sticking to the inside of my sink and the face towel I use!
On the plus side, you just need warm water to remove the mascara. I found the tubes slide off easily if I press a cloth damp with very warm water to my eyes for at least 20 seconds... still once in a wihle I feel like I'm going to pull out an eyelash tugging on the tubes!
Also a plus - this mascara withstood a funeral and lots of tears... exercising... rain... it holds up really well. And, because of the tube effect, can't smear! every once in a while one of the tubes 'comes off' and ends up feeling like it's in my eye, but that's pretty rare.
I've been using this for about 2 months (I only wear mascara several times a week, not every day) and I've gone back and forth on my opinion. I've gotten compliments from girl friends on my lashes, BUT the tubes that form on them are really vile to take off. I'd rather have something that dissolves.
I truly and honestly believe I have found my HG mascara! I have pretty long lashes, so I tend to look for volumizing formulas. I was a long time user of Lancome Hypnose, but found my lashes to look really dry at the end of the day. This mascara applies easily--I love the little brush, as I found I can get at every little lash. Yes, the tube concept takes a little getting used to, especially when you wash it off. For the most part, I just make sure that none of the tubes have ended up on the rest of my face after I wash. Afterwards, though, there are literally no traces of the mascara on your lashes or under the eye, so it's almost eliminated my need for a wipe after I wash. I knew I had found a winner when the MAC MUAs asked what mascara I was using! Loves it!

Most volumizing mascaras emphasize that they'll pump up your lashes just by the packaging alone. Chubby tubes with monstrous wands that resemble fuzzy caterpillars. Not the case with Kevin Aucoin's --- this one is slim in all aspects...pen-like casing with a short and skinny spoolie brush. Suprisingly, it does noticeably increase the thickness of my lashes without clumping, and I since the brush is so small, I can get into the inner and outer corners easily without fear of poking my eyes out. And the formula of this has a glossy conditioning effect. The only thing that bugs me is the removal - I don't find it particularly easy even with an oil-based eye makeup remover which usually dissolves even the most stubborn liner & mascara. This product comes off in almost eraser-like shavings that get all over my face and even into my eyeball. Maybe if I just use warm water like some reviewers mentioned?...I don't know. It's the cleanup that keeps this mascara's rating from being perfect for me. Still, I'm impressed enough with the product to repurchase it again.

This is a great mascara. It did not bother my eyes, and it kept good all day. It clumped as it got older, as most mascaras do, but it held a pretty long life. I love how it makes your eyelashes a bit shiny, in a healthy natural way. It really helped to keep the volume of my lashes all day and it did not have a bad smell as most do. The packaging was really nice and easy to use. I really like how water takes the majority of it off at night, and you dont need any harsh chemicals or special eye makeup remover product to get it off. It does not leave any black raccoon eye marks the next morning either which is a major bonus. I recommend this.
