I bought this product just to see if I could find a cheaper replacement to my HG mattifying primer-Murad Oil-Control Mattifier. I've relatively good luck with Neutrogena products in the past...I just didn't like it. This applies easily and does not cause any irritation to my sensitive skin. I cannot easily apply foundation over it. It makes my skin look so dry once I put on the foundation-it catches on the primer and does not blend well at all. The oil control. for me (I self-describe my skin as very oily) just isn't there. After two hours there is significant oil visible and my foundation is separating. I'll keep spending more on the Murad for amazing results-I don't even think I'll keep this primer, I'll just toss it.
This primer does not work for me at all. DO NOT LIKE. Its sucks so bad. It irritated my skin, made my skin so dry. Just a no with this primer.

I wish I had checked the reviews here before I impulsed bought this. This face primer is not for me, although, I don't have the same problems that previous reviewers mentioned. Some mentioned that it felt "grainy" because of the rice in it... but my tube is smooth all the way thru. Nothing chunky, gritty, or grainy in mine. I also don't have a problem with it squirting out of the tube, and it didn't appear to make my face look white. The packaging is fine- that's not my problem with this primer. What I don't like is the dry feeling it leaves on my skin (I have oily/combination skin) right after applying, which makes my foundation drag across my skin instead of blending into it. It makes my foundation look "fake"... as if I'm using the wrong color or something. I've been using the same foundation for years (MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF15) with good results, but not with this primer as a base. I can't believe how laying this primer down on my skin first made my foundation look thick and cakey. Yuck! Even when I put my usual setting powder down, my face just didn't look right. This is not the worst primer I've ever tried, I would say it pretty much is up to par with other high-end brands that didn't work for me (eg. Smashbox, MUFE, Laura Mercier, etc.). My HG face primer is still Paula Dorf's Perfect Primer for Normal/Oily skin. My only gripe about the PD primer is the price! With shipping (they don't sell it anywhere around me), I always pay around $40 a tube! Granted, the tube lasts me a good 6 months or so (used sparingly), but I just hate paying that much for a tube of primer! That was why I tried this Neutrogena one... much cheaper (around $11) and the tube is similar to the PD primer, only Neutrogena's is smaller. I would not repurchase this Neutrogena primer... I will stick with Paula's from now on.
I got a sample of this and ended up disappointed. Like another reviewer stated this primer has a grainy rough texture to it. I actually thought I was doing something wrong in applying this because it leaves the skin like you have sand on it instead of a smooth finish ready for foundation. Would not try again.
Shine control? What a joke. I have oily skin but I wouldn't say it's a huge problem. I wanted to try this product anyway just to keep my tzone in check. Before this product I barely used primer. I noticed that y face got oily even faster the days I used this. It didn't help with shine nor did it help my make up last. The only thing I liked about this product was the packaging.
I'll buy it again and again. If my skin can tolerate this, it'll suit just about anybody. (My face cracks with Neutrogena face wash... so you get the idea).
I wasn't expecting such good results when I felt the consistency. It's a white cream, a little grainy and my skin can barely tolerate sun or wind, let alone a scrub like substance. Do not fear!! It'll hold ALL DAY LONG. When I usually have to redo my face in the middle of the day, the durability of this product is right up Clinique's pore diminisher. A little Shine Control Pressed Powder (by Neutrogena as well) and I was good to go.

Having oily skin and especially an oily t-zone, I'm always interested in oil control products. I haven't seen this product available in Canada yet (I'm from BC) so I bought it at Target in WA. It did not work that well on me. My t-zone was oily within an hour, enough for me to have to use my usual oil absorbing sheets, although not as oily as usual. Within a couple hours, I was using an oil blotting sheet again all over my face. I didn't think it was worth the price (around US $11) for the small amount of product. The scent was a non-issue and I didn't find the texture grainy at all; neither affected my feelings on the product. It just didn't control shine at all. I'll finish the tube but won't repurchase.
Do not like!!
It's some sort of rice protein complex and you can tell...in a bad way!! Feels grainy/rough upon application.
I never noticed and shine control or primer action.
Was very disappointed, this is not the primer for me :(

I think I've found my HG primer!
I have only incorporated this into my routine for the past 4 days (replacing my usual primer), but on each of those days I had makeup on for a good 8-9 hours. And I didn't have to blot once! Nearing the end of those nights, my face just had the softest glow. My forehead and my cheeks tend to get a bit oily/shiny throughout the day, but this seriously kept those areas looking matte and like my makeup was just freshly applied. Such a change from what I was getting out of my old primer. In my case, this product does what it claims to the T. This was my first Neutrogena product I have purchased in over 5+ years, and I'm extremely happy I bought this! Will definitely repurchase.

I have an oily t-zone and I thought I would try this since they changed the formula for MAC's Prep+Prime Face Protect. This product did NOTHING for me. The smell is alright, but literally like 15 minutes after I put on my foundation, I could already see some oil coming though. Dont recommend. Will NOT purchase again.
