Good everyday powder to reduce shine and set make up. It's my go to powder. Does not really seem to give color which I like.
This review is for ANY mineral products. All of you saying you're breaking out now, you don't know why, there's something in the makeup. LOOK UP THE INGREDIENTS IN YOUR MAKEUP!! So you don't think I'm just preaching at you about something I don't understand let me tell you my story. I had bare minerals makeup on for 5 minutes I looked in the mirror my skin looked stretched & shiny & it burned like hell! So I washed it off my face but the damage was done. It took me 3 months of cystic acne before I was able to put anything on my skin again.I had painful bumps that would just explode with pus & they hurt. I had clear skin before trying BM I just wanted something that was good for my skin & wasn't a whole lot of product. I didn't do my homework. That is why I am begging you please read this. I guarantee you if you look at your mineral makeup it will have this ingredient in it & that is what you are having a reaction to. ANYTHING that says mineral makeup 99 percent chance it will have bismuth oxychloride in it. Assuming none of you know what that is, because I didn't until I did my homework too late, here's some education. Its long but pay attention. It could save your skin from permanent damage!

BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE =BO
Basics to know are.....to begin with…it is a common filler ingredient used in cosmetics & is a leading ingredient in some mass marketed mineral makeup sold by Bare Minerals, RAW Minerals, & Sheer Cover. You will also find it in professional lines of mineral cosmetics offered by Dermatologists, Spas and Medical Clinics such as Colorescience & Youngblood. It is considered a heavy mineral & requires the ongoing buffing mineral makeup companies advise in order to force it into the skin & pores to keep it from sliding off of your face. Over buffing of minerals can cause irritation & ongoing inflammation on sensitive skin types. Also it can make acne cystic by congesting pores & cause rosacea to flare.
The different processes to create a purified BO resembles something from a horror movie. This is the fact of the matter & this information is not designed to be used as a scare tactic toward women about B being closely related chemically to Arsenic...... it just simply is what it is. However, let me state B is less toxic than its' counterpart. Throughout the entire refining process B accompanies lead & the other impurities such as tellurium & the aforementioned compounds are gathered in anode slimes. Wow... now this is a bit scary..... Slimes.....yuck! In keeping my wits about me, I investigated further.
The B then goes through what is known as the Betts process to separate it from the undesirable impurities as stated above:Basically it is run through an electrolytic solution of lead fluorosilicate & fluorosilicic acid & is then filtered, dried, & smelted & then further refined depending on the purity desired. At this stage the B is still not safe for cosmetic use.The process continues as impurities are further removed through adding molten caustic zinc & then chlorinated. This then creates B Chloride. But Wait....Still not for cosmetic use, yet!
B Chloride is then treated with water then dried to form a white precipitate so formed to expel the water. Then treated further with a dilute nitric acid solution of B nitrate & sodium chloride....hence the latter being where certain companies want to claim it as a naturally occurring mineral salt. Now through evaporation & crystallization, the compound produced is the safer non-toxic by-product which is now the pearlescent, creamy feeling ingredient used as a filler giving mineral makeup its’ glow or shine on the skin enhancing the appearance of younger looking skin. It also enhances excellent adhesion properties. As you can interpret here however, BO is far from natural or straight from the earth.
As I quickly discovered with this ingredient when found in mineral makeup, it can cause extreme irritation & actually make skin conditions worse for many women. After learning of this extreme chemical process to manufacture BO, one can wonder why skin reacts so intensely for many women who use this ingredient, or why they suddenly develop an allergy to the cosmetics containing it? Furthermore, it is described as a potential skin irritant within the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets). For those who say it has been used for years in the cosmetic industry without incident, this may be in part due to the fact it is a minor ingredient for most applications. However, with mineral makeup becoming so popular & this ingredient being the 1st or 2nd on the ingredient list, the ratios are heavily increased, enhancing the skin irritations we are only learning about today as more and more women switch from their traditional makeup feeling they are doing a better thing for their skin.
One of the leading mineral makeup companies wants you to believe that this mineral is found naturally in the earth, but as explained here, this is not practical and is unlikely, yet it sounds great as a marketing strategy. After many women have written to me, they have conveyed this ingredient has wreaked havoc on otherwise healthy skin after they switched to mineral cosmetics containing this ingredient, & has been described as now experiencing burning and intense itching, while having ongoing problems even after discontinuing the use of products containing BO. All things natural from the earth or processed for refinement don’t necessarily make them safe to use even with FDA approval. The overall consensus has been this ingredient works for some but not for the masses & those few only learn after it is too late, the damage BO may have caused their skin. For those who have rosacea, skin sensitivity this ingredient should be avoided, it may actually intensify with increased irritation or intense itching. I just don't feel this chemical compound should be on anyones' face in the quantity it is used as a main filler in
i dont use powders due to minor dry skin but this one is a mineral powder that is baked so its not too heavy on the skin, i tried it out over the face and body foundation and it was the cherry on top! it looks super natural not heavy at all, it made my face feel super soft and you do not have to worry about transferring the color onto someone else's shirt! i use C2 for my foundation and a medium on this powder and it is the perfect combo! i use this with a fluffy powder brush and work it on my face but what is awesome about this is that if you just want to even out your face you can conceal what you need and just put this over that using a kabuki brush without a foundation underneath to get a nice even face! i really recommend this and everyone should go give it a try!
Love this product. This is the best (looking) powder I've ever used. It doesn't make me look super-matte, or dried out. I get lots of compliments when I wear it. I apply with my MAC kabuki brush (AMAZING). Super easy and fast, for days when I don't have time to mess with liquid foundation (which is practically every day).
I think it is expensive for makeup, but it doesn't break the bank, so that's fine. My only issue with the price is that I need two different shades, so that gets expensive.
I will re-purchase.
I wanted to love this so much because my face looked flawless i when I use this powder! But it's too dark :( I don't know why MAC sales people always match me to MEDIUM PLUS. I bought a careblend in this colour as well but I gave it to my sister and bought light plus. I should've gotten this in a light plus as well. Gah!! I feel as if I look greyish or something. FOR REFERENCE: I am asian, NC20, MUFE HD 120/125, normal-dry skin, yellow/neutral undertone!
This is just the best finishing power. Alot of drugstore ones come close but this will always be my favorite. Lasts a good amount of time and has enough pigment that I can wear it by itself on a lazy day.
I have been using this finish for a long while now and can't stop raving about it. I have even converted a friends. The difference applying this over my foundation is instantly visible. It completely evens out my foundation and gives this soft focus, matte finish - almost like you've been airbrushed. What's also brilliant about this product, is during the day when I start feeling like my t-zone is getting a bit shiney, a quick brush of the skin finish around my face and I look like I've just reapplied my foundation. It's really light and doesn't feel like you've clogged up your pours with heavy powder. What's more is as a product it last for a long while before running out, so though the initial price may be a little on the high side, you definitely get your monies worth. Definitely will continue to be a stample in my make-up bag!
So amazing. My skin never looks better than when wearing this. The matte finish is gorgeous!!!
mac mineralized skin finish: I decided to be a little adventurous and try out some MAC powders (one of them being the mineralized skin finish). At first, I was slightly hesitant because MAC face products such as their primers and foundations tend to break me out . The only thing that really works for me are their concealers (which I really love). Anyways, I decided to go with the MAC Mineralized Skinfinish (MSF) Natural because so many people love it and people have been saying that the Maybelline Dream Matte Powder is a great alternative to the MSF (which works out because i actually like the dream matte powder and i know that it works well with my skin!)
I went to the MAC store and looked at their MSF Natural shades and the makeup artist there told me that I would be better off with Light Medium. I thought I may need to go with Light, but she said that it would be too light for me. Being slightly weary, I tried it in the store, but just decided to try it and test it out when I got home. I got home, and sure enough- i should have gone with my gut! The color that she picked for me, was too dark for my liking! I ended up returning it, and that was a whole other issue in and of itself. I used this product twice... just to make sure i was 100% about the color. I went back 4 days later, with the product and receipt. I explained that i tried it, after the lady was persistent with her choice of color, and it was the wrong one. They were getting bent out of shape because i user it twice! All i wanted to do was return it for a different color. It was a nightmare! I shop there ALL the time, and for the price you pay, you had better have a satisfaction gaurenteed in your return policy. This was such a hassle, I now drive an extra 8 miles just to avoid that spicific Mac! Anyway. I loved this product. I would absolutley buy it again, over and over (just not at that store!) ;-)
I bought this product on Beyond the Rack Canada. I like it but I'm not sure it's worth it for the price. It does apply nicely and glide smoothly on the skin. It have a nice coverage without looking like a mask, plus it doesn't look that powdery. However, I think it is not really better than any other powder, so I'm not sure the price is worth it. If it's on sale, I'll definitively get it again. One thing I really like about this powder is that it doesn't transfer easily.
