The comments about clumping surprise me - I can't get any volume effect, clumpy or otherwise, with this. Plus it makes my lashes feel very brittle. It doesn't lengthen either.

This lifts lashes and curls some. Its much better than Diorshow. I wanted to start using false lashes but was unable to master the application technique. This is as close as I've come to false lashes without all the hassle and it wears well.

I recently purchased two of the LE mascaras, Emerald and Garnet, and I'm impressed with them, they do not overpower my eyeshadow, but it's still a nice pop of color in your lashes.

Not sure if I would repurchase this... I used it during the summer and was quite happy with it.

It goes on well, covers all my little lashes and holds the curl (I have the waterproof one).. but I use it over Shiseido Mascara Base.

Packaging is lovely and pricing is what EL products commands in the market... I am now using the Shiseido Perfect MAscara and as I have said in other reviews.. I have not found my one and only mascara yet.. and the day I do, I can bet anyone that it will be discontinued..lol.

All in all this is a good mascara and I don't agree that it clumps -- maybe it was a lemon. Mine went on smoothly and left me with nice feathery lashes which did not wilt in hot summers.

CLUMPCLUMPCLUMP. Not the sound of a big old giant stomping in your attic, it's what this mascara does.
.
I love the word SUMPTUOUS! "Luscious" and "scrumptious" get my attention, too. And "doodlebug."
BUT, Estee Lauder people, you CAN'T just put a random awesome word on a very bad product and expect me to try it.
.
Oh wait, I did. BUT it was a "gift with purchase" so HA! I didn't technically spend MONEY on it. Which is excellent, cuz it sucks so much!
.
It sucks worse than when umpires make 100 biased decisions so the other team wins. It sucks worse than replays of Afridi getting bowled. It sucks ALMOST as bad as my little brother's burnt omelettes.
.
Maybe I got a bad batch, but here's what I'm getting:
~Brittle deadness..BRITTLE DEAD DRYNESS
(Is SAHARA DESERT SAND part of the formula??)
~GREYNESS (even though the colour is "black")
~Aforementioned clumping
~Hedgehog spikes!!

I LOVE this mascara! When I put on makeup, I usually like for it to be as natural as possible. Before using this mascara, I was an avid user of Clinique's mascara (or Sephora's clear mascara) which did lengthen and separate my lashes but it provided no volume. I was at Nordstrom the other day, just testing out mascaras and I decided to try this one out. Immediately, I fell in love and bought it right away. This mascara lengthens, thickens, and separates every eyelash you have. It isn't overly dramatic either, but it does provide you with flirtatious thick eyelashes. I also have a tip for those who do want their eyelashes to look a little more dramatic. Before applying on this mascara, heat up your eyelash curler (to sustain your curl) and apply a clear mascara. The clear mascara should help the curl stay on longer and it will bring out the Estee Lauder mascara dramatically.

Hm, I also like MAC's mascara, but I find it to be a bit too clumpy sometimes.

This has officially replaced my HG Hypnose. I LOVE this stuff. The color is a great jet black and it makes my eyes look super sexy. Can't wait to buy another tube. The brush is shaped kinda funny, but who cares. It comes in EL's signature gold packaging which I like.

My mother went insane the other day at the Estee Lauder counter at our local department store. Naturally, this meant free gifts and some of the gifts went to me! Hooray! A Sumptuous mascara sample was included and I was elated because I'm a huge mascara junkie. My Asian (meaning stick-straight and sparse) lashes give me grief and I'm on the hunt for the ULTIMATE mascara. It's a little pricey however, so I would have never bought this on my own. I applied this after meticulously curling my lashes. It lengthened and volumized like no tomorrow! I stared in the mirror, grinning like a maniac for a few seconds before the lashes started to droop...then fall...and eventually lose the curl. I was heartbroken. The formula is quite wet, so it might smudge upon application. The brush is quite nice though: full and long but has a thin enough end to reach small lashes. I would recommend this mascara if your lashes are curly but need a little oomph. Oh well. Onto the next mascara I go...

My mom got this mascara as a gift with purchase so naturally I took it to try out on my impossible lashes. My lashes are extremely short and sparse. They also clump EXTREMELY easily. So the first few times I used it I thought it was terrible. Then one day I decided to comb it for a bit longer than normal. Voila my lashes actually look normal! The only downside is that it doesn't lengthen enough for my liking and it's expensive. So no I wouldn't buy it again.

I was hoping this would end up being an exact dupe for my HG mascara, YSL Faux Cils, without drying out as fast. This measures up pretty good...deep black color, defines, volumizes...but it's not quite perfect. It's not the greatest at lengthening, and although lashes aren't rigidly stiff after drying, they are not exactly flexible and fluttery either. I would repurchase though if for some reason my HG wasn't available. FYI, this is an extremely wet mascara so be sure to have your q-tips ready to clean mascara off your lids!
