I feel sad writing this because it seems everyone has great luck with this but me. It is gentle for a foaming cleanser, removes makeup, but it also made my skin more sensitive and I would get painful cysts on my chin the day after using it. I have no idea what the ingredient is and I keep trying it thinking it was a fluke, but no, it happens every time. Sad! I liked it otherwise. I have sensitive skin.
I felt compelled to buy this the day I realized that my poor abused skin had become overly dry and fragile due to my efforts to blast the acne away with harsh products. I came to this from Neutrogena's Fresh Foaming Cleanser, so I was initially worried that the Cerave wouldn't be able to remove my make-up. I was also worried about it clogging my pores, as I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be moisturizing (I've had some bad experiences with CeraVe lotions in the past). Now I'm just sorry I didn't try it sooner! This cleanser seems unique in that it's not moisturizing so much as it doesn't strip your skin, and unlike other similar cleansers, it doesn't leave a gross residue. So long as you wet your face first and work up the lather in your hands before you apply, your make-up will be gone (most of it). So I no longer feel so guilty about having to wash my face again after a workout, but I deleted a lip because if you've got really oily skin you probably won't like using it in the morning.
Perfect simple cleanser for oily skin. I use this cleanser with my Clarisonic Mia and I find it to be absolutely wonderful. I feel clean after washing my skin without feeling dried out. I believe a good skincare regime for acne-prone skin is one that is kept very simple. This does the job. I will continue to buy this!
Similar to purpose, but more gentle imo. Never stung or irritated me. I've been using a couple of weeks, now, and I am very pleased with it.
A lot of cleansers irritate my skin lately (which is not even sensitive), so it's great to have one that just feels nice on my skin.
I never use it to remove M/U, but I'm a firm believer it should be removed before using a cleanser, anyway.
This cleanser is probably great for someone who doesn't wear makeup regularly. It doesn't take any of my makeup off, it just rubs it around like a lotion would. I don't see the point in buying both a makeup remover and a cleanser when there are cleansers that do both.
I tend to choose long wearing- full coverage types of makeup, so that could be part of the problem.
I use this on days that I don't apply makeup and it seems to be pretty gentle and it doesn't aggravate my slight rosacea. I like that it comes in a bottle with a pump.
After being happy with the PM Lotion, I wanted to give the cleanser a try. And I love it, glad I tried it.
The niacinmide is great for reducing redness, and just like the lotion, it works well with my Taz.. It hasn't caused any breakouts, such a nice gentle formula - no fragrance, and hydrating. The foaming is great with my Pretika - and removes my BB Cream completely, which is very long wearing and waterproof.
The price for the amount you get is dirt cheap - I got mine at CVS while on sale for $2 off, making it about $1/oz.
I will absolutely repurchase this again. It's my new HG cleanser.
UPDATE: I've been using this for over a year now, and it's as good now as it was on day one. I can't imagine using another cleanser ever. I now use a Clarisonic, and it is fantastic paired with it.
I think I mistakenly wrote my review for this on the Hydrating Cleanser....This is what I love! Not the hydrating cleanser. Granted, the hydrating cleanser takes my makeup off, but it leaves a greasy film on my face that I can't stand. So...go check out that review for how I feel about this product!
I absolutely adore this product, I was nervous at first because I was breaking out so badly in whiteheads around my mouth, chin and cheeks from hormones (Adjusting to BCP) and Dove Beauty Bar; but I figured 'what do I have to loose?' and I'm happy to say that this is my HG cleanser now. It foams up so nicely and gets all of the grapeseed oil residue off of my skin from my removing my makeup. It feels so refreshing in the morning, too! It doesn't dry my oily skin out and I use it in conjunction with CeraVe's PM moisturizer. I can't attest to it's makeup removing abilities, since I mentioned that I use grapeseed oil first, but for what I need it for, it's perfect. I'm so glad I chose to try this! The pump gives me the perfect amount of product, the packaging is kind of homely but I couldn't care less if I like the product. Thanks, MUA, for another amazing product recommendation.
I was really excited to try this cleanser as it seemed to posess all the attributes that i look for in a face wash - gentle, foaming, makeup-removing, large size with pump... Im also a BIG fan of cerave's am moisturizer and have been using it for almost a year with no problems.
Unfortunately, after about 2 months of everyday use, I have to raise the white flag and come to terms with the fact that this stuff clogs my pores. During the past 2 months, i struggled with constant blocked pores, like every single day. And then i quit using it and my skin went back to normal.
While I was using it I would use 2 big pumps and a washcloth at night for makeup removal, so im pretty sure the problem is not with makeup residue. I was also not using any other new products, so im very sure that this was the culprit.
So sad! But it doesnt change my loyalty towards their other products!
This is a great fragrance-free cleanser to consider if you have combination or oily skin and have acne. I use this cleanser morning and night and it has not aggravated my skin or caused excessive dryness. I use Retin-A Micro for acne which will cause some skin dryness, but using this cleanser does not cause my skin to dry out any further. My skin is also prone to seborrheic dermatitis and use of this cleanser actually seemed to help clear it up. Usually I have to use about one and a half pumps to get enough cleanser to thoroughly cleanse my face and neck, but that's a minor concern. This is definitely an option to consider if other drugstore cleansers didn't give you the results you wanted (i.e. Purpose, Olay Foaming for Sensitive Skin, Neutrogena Fresh Foaming, etc.).
