I've tried this for the past few days now.. and honestly it's not too bad after a couple of coats (after the first coat is dry of course). I have long, somewhat droopy eyelashes and it definitely gives my lashes a little more "full" yet clean look; even my boyfriend noticed! It's a good deal for an everyday wear because of its price and the 'naturality' it gives you. I would not, however, use this for a BOLD look... it just won't work.
Despite all the horrible reviews on this product, I love it.
It has all the qualities a great mascara should have, lengthening, volumizing, curling and seperate lash coatings. I LOVE IT!
I would actually give this a 3.5. I've seen some people obtain really dramatic results with this mascara, but it just doesn't work that well for me. I can get pretty nice results, but I have to reaaally work with it and build it up while trying to not clump at the same time. I don't like the way the brush feels. The brush is big, but the texture is weird and doesn't feel nice on my lashes. The smell is also annoying. I think they were trying to make it smell like DiorShow, but it just smells cheap and the smell lingers.
I usually use waterproof mascara just in case I get caught in the rain but trying to take it off every night felt like I was mistreating my lashes and eye area.. so i decided to get this mascara since I love the maybelline volum' express waterproof mascaras. This mascara layers on pretty well but it does not hold curls at all. My lashes then look super straight which takes away the effect of putting on mascara in the first place. Now I'm not sure what to do with this product because I feel like using it defeats the purpose of putting on mascara.. but I don't want to throw it away or have to buy another mascara. Definitely wouldn't buy again..
Love this stuff. For the price, you just cant beat it. Makes my lashes thick and long and you really cant tell the difference between this stuff and the more expensive stuff. There are certain things I will spend more money on but mascara is not one of them, especially with stuff like this around.
I have short lashes and often look for length and volume when purchasing mascara. I purchased this mascara and it surpassed my expectations regarding length. It lengthened my lashes with a couple of strokes but it's volume capacity was not so great. The application wand was thick, so its usage may be difficult for beginners. It didn't clump and the mascara itself had a floral aroma to it which was more preferable over the normal smell. The tubing was larger than the average mascara. With the price, you can't exactly go wrong.
I actually really like this mascara....goes on even and clumpless & leaves my lashes looking fuller, longer and a soft appearance. Not total HG material, but I would certainly buy it again as it outperforms most other mascaras I have been trying lately. Not sure why some state it is liquidy....I have not had that problem. I like the fat brush applicator.
This mascara reminds me of their full n'soft but scented (smells like roses like mac mascaras) and with a fatter wand and tube.
This really is not a bad mascara for volume and length both, and it will hold a curl too. However it's too wet when it's new to do so--if you leave it alone after opening it and using it and then re-use in 3 weeks or so, the consistency is less liquid and it performs SO much better. One has to be careful about clumping too. The problem I had with the first tube is that the stopper moved and the whole mascara came out as a big blob so I had to discard it. They need to package it better. I have now re-bought it and so far, so good.
Another one bites the dust.
I was getting a little bored of my staple Maybelline Full 'n' Soft waterproof and was itching to try a new mascara. I thought I'd stick with Maybelline as its formulas tend to work well with my super-fine, straight, skimpy lashes. I did make sure to get this on sale in case it turned out to be a bust. I was hoping for a lot more volume and density than FnS gives me.
The color (Glam Black) is as black as anyone would want. The brush is nice and bushy and fat, but for some reason, it's also really long, making it unwieldy. For once, I wish they'd invent a mascara brush that was fat and dense but also short to afford greater precision. Finally, for some reason, they decided to add a rather strong fragrance to this mascara. I think it's supposed to be rose-like, but it really reminds me more of that awful Wet 'n' Wild mascara that costs like, 99 cents. The fragrance is so strong that it makes my eyes water sometimes. Strike one.
This is a rather thick, creamy mascara, a lot 'drier' than I'm used to. It reminds me of a somewhat thicker L'Oreal Voluminous. Kinda tar-like. I've found that wetter mascaras tend to work better for me, as I can layer and layer and layer without clumping (as long as I separate between coats with a good lash comb). I got major clumping with one coat. The formula is so thick and sticky that it was difficult to comb my lashes so they ended up looking a little spider-leggy despite my best efforts. Not an attractive nor a plausible 'look'. Strike two.
I'd applied my usual primer (Ardell) and curled with my trusty Shiseido. As soon as I applied Colossal Volume, my lashes went from high and proudly curled to straight and drooping. I tried using my heated lash curler to get my lashes up a little, but this formula is too goopy to work with heat. I managed to get my lashes to stay up, but they weren't as curled as they are with FnS. Strike three.
Verdict: Wouldn't repurchase. My lashes were denser, thicker and blacker, but the volume was clumpy rather than clean, and my curl was taken out entirely. Colossal Volume does not layer well, is difficult to remove, smells atrocious, irritates my eyes, and comes in rather tacky and loud packaging. continued >>
