Doesn't give great coverage, doesn't have good lasting power, and doesn't look as airbrushed as you're led to believe. The mineral veil is basically cornstarch and doesn't help set my makeup. I'm sure if you're a beginner at makeup you'll like it due to its "convenience" but there are better makeup products out there so please don't settle for this. Not to mention, there are products that are actually catered to specific skin types.
After reading so many reviews on sephora (before discovering MUA) I gave into the hype thinking it would be the foundation for me since it has been the best selling in the foundation category for a while. Well big mistake! It doesn't cover anything but just makes pores and dry patches more visible. It also makes my face itch like crazy. Looks very powdery and doesn't look natural at all. If you have nearly perfect skin that's not dry it might be for you.
Oh, Bare Minerals, I.D, Bare Escentuals... where to start?
The first time I tried this I was oh... 13 years old? I had just started suffering from acne and wanted to cover it up without ending up with more clogged pores and zits. The mineral foundation hype had just started, and my mom used this foundation and thought it was ok, so I decided to give it a try. My mom bought the starter set for me for my birthday along with a brush from the same brand. I was so excited and thought that my skin would finally look and feel good. And my reaction? Well, I didn't have anything to compare with, but even at that age and with my minimal experience with makeup, my first thought was: "what's the hype?" Because the foundation made my face oily and itchy, and the brush was harsh and didn't feel as luxurious as I hoped.
So I tossed this out after having it sitting on my sink for a year without being used, feeling cheated and displeased. I was put off mineral makeup for a while, and since it was so expensive in my country (still is), I didn't feel like trying other brands. But after a while I discovered mineral hygienics, and it was love at first application! I also use it with a sigma brush that I love, and my skin looks so glowy and healthy, without the itch and the clogging of pores. So bare escentuals with its bismuth oxychloride can just suck it. I will never: NEVER buy this again, and I can't imagine anyone being pleased with this unless they can handle the bismuth and have very dry skin. This may work for some people, but from what I have seen and heard this is either LOVE and HG! <3 or HATE! :@
The only good thing about this is the sturdy packaging, but that's pretty much the same as with any other loose mineral powder.
So this is, in my opinion, a cheap brand with an expensive price tag that has only survived because it was the first on the market etc. I don't care about the hype: I loathe this product. Try it on before you buy it at least. I sure wish I had...
Ugh, Bare Minerals! I wish things would have worked out differently between us, but sadly things went wrong..so very wrong! I bought into all of the hype after watching the infomercial several times, and I went to Ulta to buy the kit that comes with 2 foundations, the kabuki brush, and the mineral veil.
I asked the sales associate's opinion on which color(s) would suit me best, and he proceeded to try a few on me. In the store's lighting, the color seemed to match me well, but when I got home I saw that the color was completely off! One shade was too red on my skin, and one shade was too grey that it made my skin look very ashy. I was disappointed and told myself that I wouldn't buy anymore BE products. A few years later, I discovered that they offered a lot more shades, so I went to a store and purchased a color that matched my skin tone better. While the match is much closer, it's still not perfect.
The coverage is very light, doesn't cover my pigmentation, and feels like it's just sitting on my face. I also really hated the brush that came with it. The bristles come off even if you just look at the brush, and I feel like it really irritated my skin.
I think it's just a case of really good marketing, because this product is horrible.
I am sad - I used to love this mineral powder. Every single dermatologist I have visited have told me to stay far away from this brand. Supposidly, the minerals used in Bare Minerals are extremely pore clogging and can cause acne, so keep that in mind!
I have large pores, acne prone, oily etc...all the things no girls wishes for. Anyway, I gave it a try and I had to take it back because of an allergic reaction. My hubby said it actually made me look yellowy and i found it made my pores look larger.
The best everyday foundation I could possibly ask for. I have been using bare minerals foundations both the original and matte formulas for the past 5 years, basically it was the first foundation I had ever laid my hands on and used. For color reference I am an NC42 and use the golden medium shade in BM because I do have more yellow undertones. I used medium tan in the beginning but it was to pink on my skin and it never matched my chest or neck. To be honest i don't think i could ever forsake my BM because it just always works for my oily skin which breaks-out occasionally and when i do break out, I feel like BM actually helps out the pimple situations by relieving some redness and calming my skin. The coverage is medium but totally buildable and it would still look natural and like my skin and that's why i love it so much and it would always remain my HOLY GRAIL everyday foundation.
This is my everyday foundation. I am fair and it is so hard to find a "fair" that perfectly matches my skin. They are usually too light and the next color up is too dark. This one is absolutely perfect. I also love the coverage and staying power I get with this powder. Liquid on my skin just rolls off halfway through the day. I also do not have acne issues with my skin when I use this foundation. I will definitely repurchase because I have used BE for several years. To people who have issues with BE foundation and staying power, I suggest prime time, mineral veil, and a setting spray.
I am so glad i received a sample of this instead of shelling out the cash to buy it myself. because i would not have bought it with my own money. the color selection seems good, but the main problem i have with Bare minerals is the fact that the formula does not stay on my face for very long. in fact, almost immediately after applying, it all but disappears! and it does not give much coverage. not only that, but the formula isnt buildable either. all around fail. and another con is that its pricey!! and the actual container sucks, its easy to lose/waste a lot of product.
Considering there are not a lot of mascaras that are even OK, i would buy this again. The bad thing is that it is unpredictable. Sometimes it will curl without a curler, and sometimes it will be clumpy or dry or flaky or watery. Its not the best of the best, but i would recommend it for people who are looking for organic that doesnt run or hurt eyes.
