Well, I must say that I am surprised how much I like this....I purchased the mini size on a whim while waiting in line at Ulta(damn you Ulta and your display of adorable miniature sized things that seem cheap but are actually abhorrently expensive!!!).
So I went home and gave it a try, hoping that for the hefty price tag my skin would not like it and my wallet could breathe a sigh or relief. Alas, I think this stuff has really changed my skin for the better. Normally my face is quite reactive to things in a very incosistent way, and has been more acne prone since stopping my BCP regimen. My skin has not only cleared up for the most part, but my pores have decreased in size and my face has an overall glow that I havent seen in years! I must mention though that in conjunction with this moisturizer I also apply a few drops of jojoba oil first. I have already pruchased the full size, hefty price tag and all!

I WILL NEVER EVER BUY THIS AGAIN!! I used it twice and all of a sudden my skin was red, blotchy & I was breaking out. I have very sensitive skin, so I got a sample first so I wouldn't have to commit to paying $40 in case I reacted. Sure enough I did... Will not be repurchasing nor will I EVER recommend to a friend, let alone anyone I know. Next time, I think I'll stick with my Aveeno Ultra Calming. continued >>
Once again, Philosophy has reminded me why I wont spend my money on the majority of their products. I got a free sample of this from my job and decided to use it as a night cream now that the weather is getting colder. Two days later, I am developing itchy bumps and cystic acne on my temples and forehead. It's a milder version of the reaction that I got from Purity a few years ago. I will be sticking the the tinted moisturizer and the 27 wishes balm
I tried a sample of this and wasn't thrilled at all. It sat greasy on my face but the biggest thing I have against it is the smell, the weird smell remained on my face hours after application and I could smell it even when I was eating, ewwwww!
Despite the fact that there is some alcohol (may damage collagen...?) and lavender oil (potential skin irritant...?) in the formula, this cream is a little miracle for my 40 year old, extremely sensitive, retinol intolerant skin. This moisturizer makes my skin look youthful! - smooth, porcelain white, plump, invisible pores and something else hard to describe, delicate?. I guess the lactic acid esters do it all, plus it has some very nice anti irritant and soothing ingredients, not to mention hydrating benefits. My skin states well hydrated all day long (8-9 hours in the office with air conditioner). I don't care too much about anti oxidants in it because I always use very potent serums with all the peptides, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants etc in it.
Many times I switched to other moisturizers just to try something new (skin care junky), and every time when I come back to this one, I am pleasantly surprised on how good this cream is for my skin. Nothing else makes my skin look and feel so good. I don't mind the smell at all, it calms me down and my skin feels very comfortable and relaxed, like if I had a very nice facial massage. Long story short - whenever I use hope in a jar, I feel like I am doing something right for my skin.

I am addicted! I'll be honest and say that I was not sold on this moisturizer at first. I bought the $38 sized jar after rave reviews on Sephora and found it to be so so. However, after one YEAR of using this off and on I am confident to say I've never used a better moisturizer. This whipped, light formula goes a long way. It gives me extreme moisture and just a slight bit of dewiness. I have skin that gets oily a few hours into the day and I don't feel this makes the problem worse. I prefer the texture and scent of the original Hope in Jar over the other versions. This cream has been a life saver through some extremely chapped/ dry skin battles this year due to weather. I love the clean fresh scent of it. I have acne and I pretty much always have at least one pimple on my face. I have not noticed this to increase my breakouts or make them worse. Highly recommend this product :)
It took me ages to get used to the strong lavender scent of this moisturizer, and for a while it was a major turn-off. However, the effect of the moisturizer on my skin keeps me coming back. My skin simply drinks it up, and I find it is so much plumper and brighter now that I've used Hope in a Jar for about three years. It provides very mild exfoliation, and I think that's why my skin is bright and fresh-looking (and I'm 31, not in my 20s). It absorbs quickly and moisturizes well, even in winter. When wrinkles start to develop on my skin, I might have to retire Hope in a Jar and get something more potent, but for now, I love it and it's a staple in my beauty routine.

To be honest, I really don't see an improvement in my skin. I'm not acne prone or have terrible skin; however, I do have dry skin occationally and some (tiny) but scattered red dots or blemmishes around my cheeks. My skin looks the same before and after using this product everyday for the past month. I could have had the same results (if not better) with my olay age defying cream, which is only 10 bucks compared to this $35 bottle. The smell is horrible. I hate the smell but it's not bad enough to make me stop using it. If i was rich, i'd throw it away, but i'm not so i'm going to use it up then buy my olay creams again.
Oh!! and I've found that this product is too greasy to use prior to foundation. I only use it at night right before i sleep.
This is the best moisturizer that I have found. Having lived in a place known for extreme winter weather conditions, I found it was simply the best product for moisturizing my face, hands down.

My skin hasn't looked this good since I can't even remember when. I've been using the purity face wash, help me treatment, and the HIAJ together and my skin looks so much clearer and radiant. I love the way the HIAJ soaks into my skin without that heavy feeling you get with some moisturizers. I don't think the smell is all the bad and it fades after awhile. I use this as a night moisturizer since there is no spf in this formula. All in all I think it works great but it's a little pricey.
