I don't know why a lot of people don't like this!!! I loooove this mascara. My lashes look very natural so this is my every day mascara :) And it is so cheap you can't possibly go wrong. I'll buy this when I finish my current tube.
PLUS: if you own this and no longer don't know what to do with it here is another use:
I have full eye brows (not like Cara Delevingne lol but I don't need to fill them in) and sometimes I feel like they could look better, so this is what I do almost every day:
When the tube is almost empty, instead of throwing it away what I do is to gently brush my eye brows with the little product there is left (with the mascara brush)
I started to do this after realizing my setting powder wouldn't come out of my brows, so my face looked weird with the powder that was left on them.
After I do the brushing my face looks cleaner and my eye brows well defined and fuller. Plus my lashes look great, too ;)
Hope this works on you!!
I gave this mascara only a 2 lipgloss rating, yet I hit "yes" when asked if I would repurchase. Time and time again I always end up reaching for this at the drugstore and I never am truly wowed by it. It's a cheap product (even cheaper than most drug store mascaras) and does it's purpose of making my blonde lashes black. It doesn't really give any volume, length, or wow factor to my eyelashes. It's one of those classics that will always be something I have on hand, even though I'm not wild about it. I think it has something to do with that pink and green packaging. So cute and cheery!
This is a good, decent mascara... stays put, makes lashes look good. But nothing too special. I'd buy it again if it were on sale, but not pay full price for it!
I'm AMAZED that this mascara keeps getting award after award after award. Because it is the WORST freaking mascara I've ever tried.
The wand is tiny. The formula is really "wet"; it clumps so easily. There's no volume, no length, just spiky clumps of lashes. It's a go-to for a lot of MUAs and I always wondered why...until I met one. She said that she doesn't use the brush, she uses a toothbrush (a la Pat McGrath) with some of the mascara on it. Makes sense. Overall, this mascara is just the absolute worst. Avoid it at all costs.
This in the first mascara I ever used. Same for damn near every single other girl I know. This is a good basic beginner mascara. Give it to your thirteen year old daughter. It doesn't do anything fancy. Just gives you some basic lash definition. Can be built up a bit. Certainly teaches you about clumping! And flaking! It's a great introductory mascara to learn about all the things that go wrong with such a product and how to fix it when you're in the middle of a social studies class with a jerk teacher that won't let you go to the bathroom to fix your makeup. Ah, many fond memories evoked by this classic pink and green tube. I think even our mothers had the same experiences with this stuff when they were in highschool. And highschool is definitely the place for this stuff.
Once again I fall for Maybelline's mascara hype and creative advertising. The little pink and green package is cheap looking but whatever, it's the mascara that is important right? So the brush is straight and really tiny. It is tapered so it has a fat wide end and the narrow end for the inner lashes is really small and perfect for getting those little lashes covered. However, the brush is small so you can't cover the whole lash from inner to outer corner with a swipe and it takes several strokes to get 1 coat on all lashes. This goes on very light and it takes a lot of coats to build up to any volume and it does not really give any length. This also flaked off and I had flecks under my eyes later in the day when I used this. I thought since this was touted a best seller and "favorite" that I would give it a try. Well, I did and wish I hadn't. What a waste of my money. I bought 2 of these since they were BOGO 1/2 off. I will not be using the other one. It's in my duplicates/swap basket. I'd return it, but can't recall where I bought it.
I'm with the perplexed masses. Years ago (like 40!) when I first tried this mascara it was because it was the only mascara going and everyone used it. It was in every hip gal's makeup bag. I also remember years of us gals with racoon eyes after outdoor concerts, rain soaked shopping trips, dances, emotions, etc. That was the look because that is what this mascara behaved like. I tried it again once or twice over the years (man I wish I had stock in this product) because I'll see it has once again hit the top 10 lists of makeup artists (sheesh) and each time I'm amazed and perplexed that this piece of crap wasn't dropped a gazillion years ago. Companies have a new mascara out almost every other month that have way more potential to be a favourite than Great Lash, and they discontinue and reformulate those others all the time. And yet Great Lash is like some sacred cow - they don't even update the goofy colours (which were very 'mod and hip' back then, but nauseating now). And the formula - it's so whatever - and a mess under the eyes. Since that is a major issue for me with most mascaras, Great Trash is just another under-achiever and doesn't get great reviews from me.
I love this mascara. I have naturally long lashes (medium volume) that happen to be blonde and stick-straight. Both the mascara and brush work perfectly to volumize, separate and curl my lashes. I've tried lots of Maybelline's other mascara brushes, from super-bushy to super-tiny, and this one gives me the most control and precision.
None of the fancy mascara samples I've received from Nordstrom/Sephora/Clinique have a formula or brush that works as well for my specific needs--which is fine by me, because Great Lash is dirt-cheap compared to Dior mascara.
This is a staple for me and has been for years. I used to have to use one mascara to separate and lengthen my lashes, and another to build volume. This one does it all and without the need for 100 coats like a lot of mascaras. It doesn't clump whatsoever, lasts all day, gives amazing volume, separates, lengthens...couldn't ask for any more. And it is SO cheap, I'd easily pay double for this. I first came across this when I saw it in a magazine years ago as it was voted the best mascara in some sort of contest so was intrigued by it, and I love the bright packaging too. I'm so shocked at the bad reviews on here, I've used all sorts of mascaras from cheap ones like this to MAC/UrbanDecay etc and I still can't fault this one!
Wanna know why makeup artists like this? Well it's because they usually use disposable mascara wands to apply mascara, so the wand of the mascara they buy is not important to them, just the formulation! And the formulation of the Great Lash is actually not bad, and it's the cheapest mascara around, so makes sense to get that when you're gonna go through tubes of it like crazy.
Of course for regular people like us, the wand is very important, and the wand of the Great Lash is pretty pathetic.
I have fairly long lashes, but they are poker straight. This Maybelline mascara actually does a decent job on them, so I'm giving it a 3 out of 5. It lengthens them a bit, gives a bit of natural-looking volume, makes them nice and dark, and holds a curl through the day. However, it does not separate them that well, takes ages to get the decent aforementioned effect because of the crappy small brush, and worst of all, it flakes through the day. The formulation is a bit wet, but I actually like that.
Personally I won't be repurchasing this, but I think for the price it is actually not bad.
