favorite everyday foundation.
This foundation is awful! It oxidized on my skin and went bright orange (even though I had the lightest shade), and it made my face look like an oil slick within a few hours. The first day I had it I wore it to work and at lunchtime I looked in the mirror and I looked like an oily, orange mess. I was so embarrassed. This foundation is terrible and is no where near as good as Revlon Colorstay (which is a great foundation). Terrible choice, I wore it once and will never wear it again. Waste of money!
medium coverage. foundation turns a bit orange after a few hours of wear. skin gets really shiny after 2 hours and starts to fade after about 5 hours. having no pump was a hassle. this product was nothing special.
I would buy this product again, if they would make lighter shades. I have used this product for the past couple of years, but I haven't been in the sun as much for the past few months. A few weeks ago I had my drivers' license picture taken, and was shocked that my neck was a normal shade of me while my face was actually and literally orange! I showed it to my son and he said, "Yeah...that's what you look like." I was horrified! So I went back to Walmart to get a lighter shade of this line, only to realize that I was already using their lightest shade! A dozen lines later, I'm using New York Color Smooth Skin Liquid in Nude, and it's good but the coverage is less than ideal. PLEASE, Maybelline, come up with some lighter shades so I can come back!!!!!
Oh, how I fell in love with this product with only first application. I've been using this for about a month and a half I think. Every time I put it on, it works like a dream. Keep in mind I have dry to normal skin and sometimes combo skin... Yes my skin changes all the time, lol. Also note that I am a foundation junkie, my reviews are evidenceee. =]
I'll be comparing this to Revlon CS b/c that is the best foundation I have ever used and is yes my HG I would say.
I fall in love over and over on how smoothly it goes on my skin. A huge change from Revlon which yes goes on smoothly but Revlon Colorstay goes on very thickly. < -- ? That a word? Well if it is, that's how it applies. Whereas SuperStay goes on smoothly but silky like.
Another thing I love about SuperStay is when I want to cake on the makeup on my problem areas it builds and DOESN'T cake up. If I build on my Revlon, it looks cakey. Super Stay can cake up without looking cakey and looking more natural. So this makeup looks more natural than Revlon CS. The coverage is just as good if not better than Revlon colorstay. They both cover VERY well, but I do have some problem areas sometimes, so I have to cake up on them and I find I rather use SuperStay than Revlon CS.
This foundation makes my skin look so dewy in a healthy good way, I look like I have natural healthy skin... I'm loving this stuff.
Oh yes and the color shade is amazing. It fits my skin perfectly! I use Sand Beige and it's like a second better layer of skin for me. I use Buff in Revlon Colorstay but it is too light for me right now considering we're in summer of course=).
Now here are the flaws about this makeup... ooo get ready...
Ok so this makeup doesn't have super staying power, not as much as Revlon Colorstay. And this makeup I found makes me a a bit oily looking after hours of wearing it. However it's NOTHING a little powder cannot fix.
Basically I love this foundation. It's a great purchase and i'm so glad I tried this out. Is it my new HG? Yes! Does that mean Revlon is OUT? No. I now have 2 HG'S. Revlon works amazing and so does this 1. I cannot choose between the two. So I find myself switching off and on with them both. I find both of these products have their flaws and honestly none of them outweigh the other. If I know i'm going to have a long day or special occasion i'll grab my Revlon CS because of its staying powder, if it's just another day for me 'daily use' you'd say then I'll grab this 1.
I wouldn't recommend this for oily skin people, I wouldn't recommend any liquid foundation for oily skinned people.
Btw for those of you that this foundation turned orange on, it's obviously because it wasn't the right shade for you. Any foundation does that. This color has not turned orange on me at all.
I had been using this product for while. It went on very nicley and evenly. But after a while it started to go a bit blotchy and didn't stop my oily skin underneath from showing, if anything it made it easier to notice. It didn't last that long, maybe 2-3 hours for me, and it rubbed off on EVERYTHING! I couldnt even think of hugging anyone dressed in white!! It was very orange toned also. I got maybe the 2nd lightest colour and it still left a horrible orange line like I had picked the 2nd darkest shade or something. You could really tell I was wearing make up. Its pretty thick but go's on nicely but you need to use a far bit so it runs out quickly, and it's got good coverage which is what I really liked. But I don't have time to be reapplying make up through out my day so the fact it wasn't long lasting for me was a downfall and the fact my oily skin go the better of foundation..never a good look! It's an Okay foundation, for its price anyway!
where do I start?
color selection: HORRIBLE I do not know why most makeup companies think darker shades should be orange & I do not know why they think there should only be 2 shades for darker women. Women of color do exist in the world & they are NOT orange! This foundation is very orange & I have to manipulate it with my powder to make it more brown.
coverage: it is full coverage and it does cake up fast. You really have to apply a small amount. It is also very mask like. I really do feel like I have a mask on. My colorstay is way less mask feeling than this. It is also thick but easy to blend if that makes sense. I also think the coverage is very unnatural
staying power: this foundation gets on EVERYTHING! Your fingers, shirts, other people's shirts when you hug them. The whole non-transfer claim is all wrong. It does settle into creases but it doesnt spread alot but it does a little. It does stay on. You will need to blot this isnt the worst foundation for oily skin but it is not the best.
overall I would say this is a good foundation color wise for lighter/white women but if you are a women of color this is not for you because we all do not fall under just 2 shades. The price is good. It doesnt completely melt in heat/humility but it does melt. It doesnt break me out.
I don't care for this foundation at all. I only bought it because my previous foundation ran out on me pretty unexpectedly so I had to dash to town to grab another and we don't have that much selection in my town so this is what I came away with.
I bought the second lightest shade which I soon realised when I was away from the lighting in the shop was way too dark for me. It looks dirty on my skin and doesn't apply very nicely at all.
The coverage is medium but I like a fuller coverage on my cheeks and when you add more on to your skin it feels cakey.
It's just not a nice foundation! Plus it stained my foundation brush like crazy and now no amount of cleaning or products will get rid of the orange staining on my brush!
this thing broke me out like CRAZY!! and I usually never break out from products, lasting power is ok, I have SUPER oily skin and it lasted me for 10 hours but got oily in 5-6 hours.
My skin used to be on the dry side, but over the past few months, it's gotten more toward the oily side, so I had to find a new foundation that wasn't so creamy. I was going to try Revlon Colorstay, but decided to try this instead because it was cheaper & the color matched my skin undertones better. The color is a great match, & it's buildable, so you can go heavier on the coverage if you want (which is what I prefer, since I have a few dark spots on my face that I want to cover). It's really not "non-transferable" as they claim, but that's not a big deal to me because my old foundation wasn't either. I still am getting oily, but nothing that a little powder at lunchtime can't fix. Like others have mentioned, the packaging sucks. It needs to be in a pump or better yet, a tube (my old foundation was in a tube & I loved it).
