5/23/09 Update - Went to the MAC store and the MUA suggested that I pick up their translucent powder as my current powder may be oxidizing on my face. My face has stopped turning pink/orange or any other strange colors since I've stopped using my old foundation powder. I'm back to being in love with SFF again!!! Yay!
5/14/09 Update - Ok, I think that this is turning my face orange. I look great indoors, but outside in the natural light I feel totally orange. Will have to go back to the MAC store to get some serious help!
I've always avoided MAC products due to their reputation for causing skin issues. However, I've tried various drugstore brands, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Prescriptives, Lancome, Dior, Bobbi Brown, Bare Escentuals...I'm sure there's a few other brands that I can't think of right now, but you get the picture. I've never found THE ONE...until now. MAC Studio Fix Fluid is the best for me. I recently tried a sample of their Select SPF 15 and thought that was really good, but was missing something. Then I hesitantly tried the SFF and Iím so glad I did because now Iím in love. It provides great coverage (Iíve got redness, acne scars and discoloration), stays on all day (even through sweat), and the color is a perfect match too. I havenít experienced any breakouts, oxidization or extra dryness or extra oilyness to my face at all. It makes me feel so gorgeous and youngÖhow can I NOT love this product???
NC40, Black Hair, Brown Eyes, Combination Skin
First, my skin. I'm in my mid 30's and have combo/oily skin with large pores. I also tend to be break-out prone and have some scarring/hyperpigmentation that I like to cover. Since we're heading into the summer months, I also need something that controls oil and doesn't get too shiny. Curing a recent visit to my local MAC counter, the MAC sa was kind enough to provide me with two generous samples of this foundation in NC 20/NW 20. For reference, I'm usually a C2 in MAC, MUFE HD 120, Lancome Teint Idole Buff 2.
On the good side, Studio Fix Fluid provides the best coverage I have ever had...I don't even need to use concealer with this. It is long lasting...gave it a trial run when I was travelling and it held up the entire day, including tropical humidity. It also controlled oil really well; rivaled the long-lasting EL Double Wear light that I have used in the past.
On the bad side, this broke me out in my classic breakout pattern when my skin doesn't agree with something. Also, it's really heavy feeling; felt like my skin couldn't breathe with this on, although after having it on for awhile, I got used to the feeling.
The MAC sa gave me 2 colors to try because she couldn't believe I was a C2...I have rosy cheeks and warm toned skin, but often run into problems with sa's thinking I need cool-toned foundations vs. warm-toned. I've tried both colors...the NC 20 was pretty yellow, but once I applied it, it looked good and helped neutralize redness. I didn't find the NW20 as cool-toned as other foundations and the color also seemed to match my skintone pretty well.
So what's my verdict? I would not buy this due to it breaking me out and the heavy feeling BUT if you are looking for heavy duty coverage and oil control, this could be something worth trying because the finish is really flawless...just sample before you buy.
My HG foundation. Blends like a dream with Prep + Prime Skin Visage underneath. I have yet to try out ColorStay to see if it's comparable match for this wonderful foundation.
I have sensitive, dry and acme prone skin and what I loved about this foundation is that it didn't irritate my skin or break me out which is great. The coverage is medium to heavy But this foundation I noticed tends to look quite heavy no matter how you apply it. Meaning it's very noticeable and can get cakey. I wish that MAC would provide a pump with this, since it's really hard to get every little bit out and considering the cost, I want to use every little bit. Color wise, I'm an NC15 and it's still way to dark for me. The color choices just aren't that great. I'm really on the fence about this foundation. On one hand, it provides great coverage, which I need since I have very blemished skin. On the other hand, I need something even lighter then the NC15 and I'm disappointed in the packaging. I can't find another foundation that provides such great coverage and doesn't irritate my skin and accentuate my dryness but I don't want to look like I'm wearing a layer of makeup. Right now, I'm saying I will not be buying this again, but if I can't find my HG foundation, I *might* try this again.
This gives the same coverage as the powder, but with a different kind of texture. Since it is a liquid, it is definetly not powdery looking and does look natural if applied correctly. This does not break me out. I am acne-prone however, i find it surprising that MAC products do not break me out. If this is too heavy for you, mix it witha moisturizer and use the 187 and you will be a show stopper.
I totally dislike this foundation...is very drying, smells horrible and it's super ashy- I wil not repurchase.
Ive been using this for about a week and so far so good. I only had one new pimple to come up and the other few that I had prior to using this went away after I started using Studio Fix. Im pretty sure it was caused by this foundation though because different products give me different types of breakouts if that makes any sense. I dont think theres anything out there that wont break me out. However some are worse than others.
Anways I think the foundation does really well, it has a strange scent to it but I kind of like it. I apply it with the 187 brush and it does very well. I like the fact that it has a yellow undertone to it, thats exactly what I need to match my skin. I got NC15 I believe.. or whatever the lightest shade is.
I took a lippie away because while its a decent foundation and it looks great when its freshly applied..its not so great after a few hours.
I work in a store under those wonderful flourescent lights that we all just love. After awhile this makeup gets really oily and slides around on my face and settles into any fine lines that I have. It just looks icky, blotchy and weird and def. not natural at all. It also makes my skin look much more aged when it settles into the lines on my face ick! I always set my foundations with powder as well... so if anyone has an idea on how to stop this from happening please LMK!
my first foundation. i was never a fan of foundation as i found it a too big of a hassle to find my right colour - asian. i naturally have really nice skin, but i wanted a foundation for my debutante (oh em gee its over), and i got my make up done at MAC.
loved it! it's got really nice medium coverage and fits my skin colour perfectly.
but i love it. awesome product.
edit* - i hate it. i will not buy again. Its wayyyy too yellow. I guess it looked good in the department store lighting and in the dark venue lighting, but when i put it on again in daylight, it looked so bad it was laughable.
changed from 5 lippies to 3, as the product itself isnt bad. just the colour and the colour range. now that im complaining, the packaging isnt that great too. you need to purchase a pump seperately. why not put it together?!
This made me break out. It didn't make my skin oily but it had just average staying power. It wasn't too heavy, but that was about it's only pro. It definitely isn't worth the money, I've used covergirl foundations that work better than this!
I'm a big fan of this foundation for night time, because during the day I hardly ever wear makeup unless its Almost Makeup by Clinique. I'm NC 40 and the color is PERFECT. So hard to match my skin but I love that its not too dark nor too yellow. The coverage is def. more of the full than medium side but I use a foundation brush, if you use a sponge that would be a lot sheerer.
I would just like to add that I use this in conjunction with MSF Natural in medium deep and its absolutely stunning! Also for those of you who find that you get oily even w/ primer I strongly recommend MAC Blot Powder.
