Ok, so I bought this because I was looking to experiment with a different foundation other than my M.A.C NW40 Studio Fix that was said to give full coverage. After giving this a try a couple of times I realized that it makes my skin look extra dry (maybe bc of the matte effect) and it did not really give me that coverage I was expecting. Also, it was not flash friendly lol :)) The only positive thing about this product, atleast for me is that it can be used as an everyday foundation for those casual, natural looking days.

Went into Sephora for a consult after struggling with my changing skin from new thyroid medication--wanted something that covered a bit more, but didn't flake me out/dry me out or look cakey--wanted something that I could throw on my face in the morning and last all day without touchups but look clean/natural/set. The gal sat me down and tried several brands, from BB balms and tinted moisterizers to heavier stuff--and she brought up MUFE Mat Velvet in #25 warm ivory--the name is misleading, as it's a bit pinkish in tone--and after priming my skin, she applied this with the sephora #45 mineral powder brush (NOT the foundation brush, but it worked really well). She swirled it into my face, just a tiny squirt of the tube covered my whole face on a medium level. I have to say it feels great, but I need an SPF--so I got the Smashbox primer with SPF and UGH, it's too oily in my t-zone--that's my only concern, wish this had an SPF to it--i prefer my foundations to have SPF or my powders and NOT my primers or moisterizers--for my sensitive skin that's combination/dry it works better that way.
This is expensive but I like the packaging and it lasts most of the day--after 5-6 hours I do get a shiny nose, so you actually DO need to use a blotting tissue or a powder to touch up--the shade works pretty well on me, too--would check out their other stuff and repurchase this :)

Must say was very impressed with this foundation. I have dry areas, around my nose and forhead. I moisturised and used "the Present" primer from philosophy. I used a stippling brush to apply and was AMAZED that I only needed a tiny tiny amount. I was worried that my dry areas would come through but this did not happen. Coverage was fantastic, did not need concealer. You have to work quick though or you won't be able to blend. I know this foundation is geared towards oily skin, but this is a great summer foundation if you have dry/combo skin and want to feel "done up". Skin looked and felt incredible for 8 hours. I think my primer had alot to do with this as well. Primer is a must if you have dry/combo skin. Highly recomend. My only concern was with having to work quickly, as i mentioned. Maybe applying Mac Fix + to brush would help this.
Edit:
Changing rating to a 5. Just love this compared to anything else i've tried.

HG of foundations for me HANDS DOWN!!! I've recently recovered from a 2 year acne outbreak, like serious acne and this little bottle is my new best friend! It's a little pricey for me and I thought the bottle was just so tiny but really, one bottle lasts me almost a year. I don't wear it everyday as a foundation but do as concealer here and there. My dad hates makeup, one day he asked me what happened to my skin. I was worried that my foundation was noticable but then he said my face was so fresh and clear and that usually I had a pimple here and there (thanks Dad, lol!!!). So that says alot about this product. It lasts and lasts and lasts too! I use makeup remover wipes and I was awestruck at how much there was on the wipe at the end of the day. This stuff makes me so happy!!!

I think I've found my HG foundation. My skin is very prone to acne, oily on the t-zones at the end of the day, and I have minor discolorations due to acne. This foundation is just awesome, right now, I can't find a word to articulate and describe the impressive results I got from using this product. I used to use MAC's Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC42, but my face would be oily in a couple of hours, so I constantly have to blot my face. But for Mat Velvet+, my face is not only matte, it stays on the whole day. The longest I've worn this foundation is 13 hours and it looked as if I just applied it (with the help of Stilla's One Step Primer). You can also double this up as a concealer. I have discoloration on my face, so I just take dab some on them, and poof, as if it's never there. I don't even have to set it with powder, it's amazing, I'm truly impressed.

As a reference, I have a medium tan skin and I use shade 55.

The downsize is the size and price. The length is like the palm of my hands, kind of small, and it does get expensive since I run out fast because I use it everyday.

I really love this product because it works well in controlling my oily skin throughout the day. I use less than a pea-sized amount every time because I don't really need heavy coverage and this foundation works well enough that only a small amount is needed to cover minor blemishes. There is no irritating scent, which I love, and the packaging is sleek and sturdy, which makes it great for travel. The price is not terribly bad, but it is on the expensive side for a college student like myself. Overall, this foundation does what it claims to do, therefore meeting my expectations and becoming my HG product.

UPDATE: I'm disappointed! When I first started using this product, it was wonderful. It matified perfectly and looked almost exactly like my skin tone (I wear #30). I thought I had found my HG foundation. But after about a month of using it I've noticed it has some pretty major flaws. This foundation tends to settle into fine wrinkles under the eye, forehead, laugh lines, etc. It exaggerates any flakey/dry skin you have. The mat texture only lasts about 2 hours into a normal day, even if you're not doing anything that would cause you to sweat and make it melt off. It just melts off by itself and you end up looking all oily and uneven skin toned in the middle of the day. It really doesn't last with primer either. Plus if you even get a slight amount on your under eye bags or mix it with your concealer to blend... Your eyes look leathery, saggy, and multiple years older. I've tried everything from applying with different brushes, dabbing a tissue over, spraying MAC Fix+ over, applying less, and switching shades. It looks like you applied a cheap drugstore foundation then caked nothing but transparent powder on. If you want something with a mat finish, you're safer just avoiding this product.

I was pretty excited about this foundation when i first got it since it was my first high end foundation, and don't get me wrong it is a good foundation, it has pretty good coverage. The problem is the colour range, i found that all the colours have a red undertone, and it looks really weird on someone like me who has yellow undertones ( but dark skin). Also, it is basically unblendable, this is one of those foundations that you have to blend into ur skin really fast, otherwise it will basically just try on the spot you put it. I also find that if u put too much it can feel a bit heavy. No problems with it becoming oily ( i would hope not since it is a mat foundation), so it does what it claims pretty much. I would say that unless u find your exact shade with this, dont buy it because you really can't blend it with another shade. If you do find your perfect match, I think you can be pretty happy with it, as it can be full coverage, and if applied correctly, and if you enjoy the mat look go for it. I also don't really love the packaging, since there is not pump and the whole is really small.

Very difficult to get in the UK and I wasn't sure about the color match. But I took a chance and ordered it. I really don't see anything positive about it. It doesn't go on nicely, it looks really fake, doesn't mattify and the coverage isn't so good, I still have to use concealer on my very slightly red marks. I'm still oily after an hour. It also doesn't last very long, I wore it with some powder & within 3 hours it looked awful, really cakey and it had sunk right into ever pore and line on my face (Yuck) First foundation I've used where my face actually looks worse with it on. The color wasn't really right for my skin, so that might be why it looked so fake but tbh, with everything it claims, I still wouldn't of been happy even if I had bought a shade lighter. All in all, I will not repurchase :( continued >>

I am crossing my fingers that this foundation does not break me out. I am in complete awe with this! First of all, the color I was matched to (#30) is a dead match to my skin. For the first time ever I don't even look like I have makeup on because it's literally the same exact color as me. I have VERY deep red acne scaring that covers both of my cheeks, so I usually really have to build up coverage with foundations. I put a small amount on my cheek and started to blend and I was shocked that that small amount covered my scaring completely. Absolutely no red shining through the foundation at all. I didn't have to sit there and build up coverage like I normally do. The second thing I noticed was that it dried so beautifully on its own & it had looked like I had already set it with powder when I didn't. The finish was absolutely beautiful. The third thing I noticed was that it doesn't feel at all like you have makeup on.Its very light feeling. It didn't look like it either but I'm sure part of that is because of the perfect color match. I'm VERY oily skinned and makeup usually melts off my face. So far I've had this on for 5 hours & no oil yet. This foundation is honestly heaven sent for me. It's no doubt a HG. I am seriously keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't break me out because I will never stop using this foundation. continued >>
