I really don't like this stuff. I only wear it when i'm taking pictures or going to something fancy. Wearing it alone - looks horrendous. My skin is cakey, streaky, and disgusting. Wearing it with a primer - little bittle, blends in better, and makes my skin feel velvety. But it's still very cakey. I also did not like the color of this at ALL! I got the lightest shade off the website and it looks orange on me. There's a distinct line where the foundation stops on my neck. I have to add one of my lightest foundations to this to make it my skin tone, or close to it. So pretty much, I don't like this. At all. And I probably won't buy much more of MAC ever again.
I am surprised this foundation has a below-4-star rating on MUA. This is my favourite foundation! I have combination skin and this is by far the best foundation I have found that doesn't make my skin look flaky or super oily! I used to use Napoleon Perdis foundation stick (which I thought was the bomb) but when I compare the two - MAC makes Napoleon look like a cheap drugstore brand - and believe me, it's not cheap!
I find that I have to touch up with powder on my nose area once a day, but I used to do this about 4 times per day with other foundations. It doesn't dry my skin out, and if my skin does happen to be dry or flaky in winter, my studio fix fluid masks it well, rather than making it more obvious like most foundations do.
The thing that I love most about my MAC studio fix is that I have FINALLY found a true colour match for my skin. I am yellow based and fair...and the majority of foundations on the market are pink based, especially the fair end of the spectrum. NC20 is a perfect match for me and blends so well into my skin that I can't see where I have applied it. I recommend getting one of the MAC artists to colour match for you rather than selecting your own shade because my sister also uses this foundation, but I have noticed her colour is slightly off.
Packaging is quite good (I like that the bottle is clear) but you need to buy the pump lid for ease of use. The bottle is quite expensive but not too bad value....one bottle lasts me a bit over 1 year. I used to have to repurchase my old foundation every 6 months.
I honestly can't fault this foundation and I will definitely repurchase, over and over again.
This has been my main foundation for the past 3 years. Relatively happy with it. I use Physicians Formula pressed powder (darker shade, doubles to even out/matte and as a bronzer) over top. Right now I find my skin is going through an interesting transition and I am trying to find one that's more suitable- :
Consistency is just right for my combo/sensitive skin
Coverage is awesome
Shades NC 25-NC40 (I get crazy dark in the summer) are perfect. My skin is really yellow (for a Swede), and The SA kept trying to convince NW. Eventually I told her I had Jaundice (I don't) so she'd leave me alone. Something to keep in mind, I found that the NW tones went on great but after a couple of hours and having set it was stupidly pink. My advice? Walk around the mall for a bit and see how your color sets and then make a decision.
Staying power is ok, but nothing extravagant- primer is a pretty big factor in it.
I've yet to find a good primer and I think you need to prime to truly get the best results with S.fix.
Buy a pump. Way more hygienic, easier to control.
Well ... I really love this foundation ! Takes a while to get used to the paint like smell but it isn't all that bad. At first, I was having a hard time applying this as a little REALLY goes a long way & I would notice cakeyness on my face. I used all sorts of brushes but then realized, I didn't have the pump. So I went off to buy a pump at MAC for 8$, which is really the only downside about this product. The pump is separate. But anyways, after I bought the pump I pumped two pumps into the back of my hand & worked it with my Sonia kashuk beauty blender ( does an amazing job ) & worked it all over my face & OMG the makeup looked FLAWLESS ! Stayed on for hours, I set it with my translucent powder. ( I use translucent cause it gives me more of a natural look ). So I recommend you go out & but this amazing foundation. You will love it as I did ❤
This is the first liquid foundation I've ever purchased. After three years of using MAC's Studio Fix Powder foundation, I decided to make the switch to liquid foundation. I researched a lot of liquid foundations - Nars, Makeup Forever, Laura Mercier, Revlon, as well as MAC Pro Long Wear & Match Master. In the end, I decided to go with Studio Fix Fluid because of its coverage, color selection, and price. I picked up the NW 50 shade and have been using for about two weeks now. Overall, I'm really impressed with the results.
Ever since I started using this foundation, I have no longer needed to use concealer. I only need to set it with loose powder. This gives me full coverage that lasts most of the day ~ 9 hours. My skin looks dewy and flawless. Compared to the Studio Fix Powder, this foundation is much better at covering blemishes and dark spots. It also feels a lot smoother on the skin.
I think this foundation is really good, especially for those who are still new to liquid foundation and don't want to spend like $50. At $27, this is pretty reasonably priced. The main downside is that it doesn't come with a pump. I had to purchase that separately for like $7. Other than that, I have no complaints. I would recommend giving this a try.
I have a love hate relationship with this makeup. I love it for the perfect colour match. I'm finding lately that I'm not enjoying the finish this foundation gives me. It's winter and the foundation is showing up any dry patches. The lasting power of this foundation is average. I compare everything to double wears lasting power. This doesn't quite give me as long wear as double wear. This foundation is heavily scented and I'm suspicious that it has broken me out in the past. Overall, I do use this foundation from time to time, but there is nothing amazing about it.
Like other people, I really wanted to like this product. Being my first high-end foundation purchase, I like how it has a fuller coverage (medium and buildable) compared to the drugstore brands that I've tried. Plus it covered up my large pores nicely.
I like how it has a wide shade range, but it was too bad the sales person didn't match my skin tone to the appropriate foundation shade.
I found my skin becoming oily after 3-4 hours, so frequent touch up might be needed for those with oily skin. I had no problems with it breaking out my skin, which is surprisingly pleasant seeing as I have acne-prone skin. There have been some nights when I fall asleep with this product on (whoops) and find no breakouts the next morning.
It's a bit too thick and heavy for everyday use, but it would be great for an evening or a night out. It didn't do a good job covering up my pimples, and made some of the skin around my acne stand out.
I bought this in Australia for $50, so I don't think it's worth the value. There could be other foundations that are better for my skin at a cheaper price.
I would recommend this to people with normal clear skin.
I think MAC is a great brand and have a number of their other products, but my skin does not react well with this foundation and I appear to be too fair for the MAC colours. I have combination skin that's neutral/slightly pink undertones, and I was matched as NW15. The finish and coverage is brilliant and at night time looks incredible, but during the day it's far too yellow and dark for me. I've heard MAC introduced NW10, however I won't be trying it because my skin responded quite badly with really horrible breakouts along my cheeks and jaw line. This also happened to a friend of mine, so perhaps it's not suitable for people with sensitive skin? I'm now using Dior Nude and really like it.
This isn't the right foundation for me, but if you find a good colour march and you don't have sensitive skin then this is an amazing foundation for medium to full coverage.
This is my holy grail foundation. i fund this product gives medium to full coverage and is great for covering acne prone skin like mine, I generally have bad skin and this product makes it look flawless. The product is quite heavy but i like the coverage it gives.i would not recommend it for those who have good skin as it could be too heavy. i wear the colour NC35 as i have yellow based undertones, the colour matches my skin really well and makes me look more radiant. It wears really well and do not find myself having to reapply as i work at a beauty counter you always have to make sure your skin looks great and this does just the job.Iif you are going to wear this foundation you definitely have to wear powder so it mattifies the skin
DESCRIPTION OF ME ~ Light yellowy/olive complexion with a tendency to get redness on my cheeks and around my nose. MAC C2ish/NC20. Large pores, oily and prone to blackheads and occasional acne. Mid-thirties, some sun damage, (melasma) and fine creases on my forehead.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION~ "A modern foundation that combines a natural matte finish and medium, buildable coverage with broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 15 protection. Applies, builds and blends easily and evenly. Comfortable and long-wearing, helps minimize the appearance of pores and imperfections, giving skin a smoother, more flawless look and finish." From the site and well, I can't argue with that one bit. It does all those things!
PACKAGING~ Glass bottle, screw top, general pain unless you buy the pump which is essential and makes using this a breeze!
CONSISTENCY/TEXTURE~ Creamy, thick liquid foundation.
APPLICATION~ Pretty blendable actually. It's not a hard foundation to work with at all. I use it over a silicone primer.
FINISH~ The finish is matte but not cakey. I use powder because I like a refined-no-pore look but really, it doesn't need a whole lot of powder. Over a primer this will look natural. On lightly moisturized skin or no primer type base this might not look at well. It's a pro product to some extent and not meant to be used just out of the bottle. I use 1 pump, so, it really is a base. I'm not using this for total coverage or anything, that's what concealer is for. So, if you were to use more than 1 pump you might indeed end up with a bit of cake.
COVERAGE~ With one pump and if I use my fingers I get a naturalish medium coverage and a stippling brush (I'm currently using an ELF!) and 1.5-2 pumps and layer it can get pretty close to full. Not quite like an emollient foundation might but that's what concealer is for!
STAYING POWER~ With a good dusting of finishing powder it lasts all day without fail all day on my oily, dark pored skin.
SCENT~ It still smells like alcohol tbh and that's fine by me. It fades after it dries so not an issue.
COLOUR~ Ok, this is where MAC gets dicey or rather, other reviewers. I actually do NOT find MAC foundations "orange" like so many people seem to. You have the wrong shade if you do. NC is yellow based and being that our skin (dare I say ALL skin) is yellow to varying degrees, this is perfect and very well thought out makeup. Just got to a lighter shade than you think you might need! I find myself having to go darker in drugstore brands because it's only the dark shades that aren't darn pink. :| Also, it's not "oxidizing" you are using the wrong shade!! And, if NC15 "oxidizes" it's because MAC's lightest colour is not light enough for some people. So, that said, NC20 is perfect for me.
OTHER NOTES~ To those saying it breaks you out, it is unfortunate. As far as I can tell any thick foundation like this might have the tendency to. So, it's not the foundation it's your skin, ladies. If I stopped wearing makeup I'm pretty sure I would never breakout. It's not going to happen (for me) I adore makeup so I live with the occasional breakout and I do not blame my makeup. Even if I used something rich and oily like MAC's full coverage (grease pot basically) I would not BLAME the makeup. That stuff is not intended for every day use, it's occlusive to a large degree, of course it's going to break me out! I still break out once in awhile and I don't think this foundation has anything to do with it other than that's the nature of makeup.
OVERALL~ I've used this foundation exclusively for over 2 years now and repurchased many times I adore it. If you are oily and want a long lasting foundation and love yellowy shades, this is a wonderful option. I have just ordered Estee Lauder's Double Wear on a whim because I think I'm in the mood to play around. I have 3 backups of this foundation though and have no intention of trading or getting rid of them.
Thank you Seclusae2 giving me permission to use your great reviewing format.
