This is an amazing product! I admit I was a bit skeptical but I can really tell a difference in the way my skin looks after I apply this. I use it as a finishing power and it gives me a soft focus, super blended look. I've had no problems with the product looking white on my skin after I apply either. I have problem skin (I go to a derm on a regular basis) and this has caused no breakouts or problems of anykind. I purchased the smaller size and used it practically everyday for two months and there is still so much left! I love it and can't believe it took me so long to try it. I don't even feel "done" if I don't use it now.
This has been sitting in my makeup drawer for years. As a finishing powder, it did nothing to control oil for me. Absolutely nothing. I was still an oil slick not even an hour after applying. I remember it being expensive, and that is the only reason I never threw it out. SO GUESS WHAT I DID (I'm excited, sorry). I used it as a primer. And guess what it did. Controlled my oil the ENTIRE day. I'm talking blotting once... and for me, that is unheard of. If the oil that comes out of my face could be used as fuel, I could be a billionaire. That is how oily my face gets. I usually blot and powder multiple times throughout the day. I read one review, ONE, on the Sephora site, where the reviewer also used it as a primer. That was the only review I was able to find anywhere, where someone used it in that way. I figured what the hell? What did I have to lose? I powdered some on my face before applying my foundation, the same way you would apply it after foundation.. waited 5 minutes, and did my makeup as usual. I can't even begin to tell you the difference this made. I could actually go hours and hours and not worry about how oily I looked. I could touch my face and feel that it wasn't oily. If you're like me, and nothing you buy seems to be able to control your oily skin, and you just so happen to have this and currently hate it... try it as a primer!!!! I am beyond impressed, but am a little depressed by the fact that I'll now have to repurchase eventually :(
i bought the small container of this powder, it is a bit messy. the jar is too small for my powder brush. i still havent figured out a way to make this easier on myself. but other than that the powder is GREAT! i absolutely love it! i have issues with my skin right now: acne prone, sensitive, oily t-zone, dry chapped cheeks. i think its because of my face creams. but my skin did not breakout with this powder, my face felt fresh and set, and never oily, and never too dry or tight. it was perfect for me! i loved it!
i put the powder into a larger container but it was still messy, so i started to tap powder out onto my brush instead and that seemed to work well, but it did end up on my clothes sometimes. but after some time in a warm room i realized i was getting these little white droplets on my face- it was the powder.... not happy about that. when i wiped it off it left a white pasty streak... not good. i stopped using it, i will not repurchase. what a disappointment.
MY SKIN: Normal to oily, medium-dark skin, yellow undertones
PACKAGING: Loose powder in a screw top jar with a sifter. Packaging is sturdy and heavy weighted. The screw top doesn't allow the product to spill out - great or travel.
HOW I APPLY: Sephora HD foundation brush (which I do frequently use as a powder brush). I use this over Revlon Colorstay. I tap very lightly into the sifter and swirl it into the cap to distribute it evenly on the brush. I then brush lightly to my T-zone.
THE FINISH: Since this is marketed as "HD", there are a few finishes I have observed:
1) Natural light: Very matte finish, does not settle into fine lines. Give a lovely, smooth appearance. This will not, however, replace a highlight. You will need to blush, highlight, and countour to get a truly "finished" face. Otherwise your face will look almost too matte/flat and dead.
2) On camera without flash: Still maintains airbrush finish.
3) On camera, close up, with harsh flash: HELLO WHITE CAST! Here is where you see the ghost-like appearance that has been a frequent complaint. My face had a distinct white sheen that is evident compared to my neck color. Keep in mind this is only very close up and in BRIGHT flash.
WEAR THROUGHOUT THE DAY: Wears well and controls oil. However, I am not extremely oily, so I don't know how it would really hold up in that situation.
OVERALL: In person and in natural light, it's a wonderful product, but in harsh flash, it's horrendous. I would not recommend this at all for a wedding or any occasion with many pictures. I like it enough to use up the rest of it, but I don't think I will repurchase (considering the hefty price tag, although note that you do get a ton of product). I am positive there must be a finishing powder out there somewhere that will look good both in person and in pictures.
Probably one of Make Up For Ever's best products! I can really rely on this product to mattify my skin and finish the makeup. I've had it forever, a little goes a long ways. It's definitely an HG item... Goes amazingly with the primer, concealer, and foundation.
When I first used this I was pretty frustrated that I blew so much money on something that looked so cheap and powdery. But then I was due for a new kabuki so I got the Make Up Forever brush that you're supposed to use with the powder (it was two bucks cheaper that the other brush I was eyeing at Sephora and I like that it's small and travel friendly) and it worked! It's all in the brush!!
I hate that it's so expensive, I still feel a bit ashamed that I spent so much money on it... but I probably will re-purchase when I eventually run out (I'm pretty sure this is going to last me a very long time).
It can be a bit messy (it's loose powder!) but because it's white so it's not REALLY a problem. It doesn't make a mess I just feel like I'm wasting product.
I think it does what it's supposed to do. It doesn't look powdery but it helps control the shine. It's good stuff.
Every time I would go into Sephora I would ask " what's the best setting powder for SUPER oily skin" and without fail, each person would recommend this and without fail I would buy something else....
So I finally was over all these products that claimed to control oil ( mac's blot powder drove me to this product) and bought the small $15 dollar size.
I'm looking in the mirror right now and I have a face that is free of an oily mess! WOOT WOOT! I put my mu on at 6:30am and it is now almost 11:30, so this is a good sign!
I do blot once in the afternoon but it's totally worth it!
I really enjoy this. I use it every day over my Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse, and it works perfectly to keep down the inevitable shine. I have VERY oily skin and very little can be done to prevent me from looking like a disco ball at the end of the day, but this certainly helps. Best of all, it's ACTUALLY translucent. Other "translucent" powders usually give a whitish cast, but this one is undetectable. I have the smaller size, but I can't imagine ever running out. I've had this for a month now and haven't made a dent O_O
The only thing I can criticize is the packaging =/
It's a screw cap with holes to allow some of the product through, which in theory sounds like a great idea (so that you don't pick up too much of the product). The problem is that I never use the entirety of what comes through, and now have half of the product sitting on top. So every time I open then container, it makes a bit of a mess :(
This powder is nothing extraordinary in my opinion. It does mattify but the results vary... too little, and you start to shine after a few hours, too much and you look chalky. I've used it dozens of times with different brushes and over different foundations and I don't feel that it makes a big enough impact to justify the price. It's okay but not something I would rebuy.
I bought the test size jar of this from Sephora so I could try it with my HD MUFE foundation. I really didn't notice a huge difference between this finishing powder and any other powder I use over the top of liquid foundation. I have pretty oily skin and this really didn't provide a superior finish to BareMineral Mineral Veil, or my MAC powder. I also really dislike the packaging of the sample product, it is so small that it makes it impossible to get any powder brush into the lid to swirl around the powder.
