I received a sample of this product to try out, so my "price" & "packaging quality" ratings are based on what I've seen at the store. My impressions are after using it for about a week and a half.
I loved using AOBS. It took me a couple of goes to get used to the smell, but I quite liked it in the end. It's smells like herbs & lavender. I would rub a pea sized amount of the cleanser between wet hands to form a wet paste & then rub it over my entire face (avoiding the eye area) before rinsing it off with a little water.
I loved the way my skin felt after using AOBS, it felt clean, smooth & a little tight (in a good way). It exfoliated very well & my little sample hardly has a dent in it, meaning that a full sized container (I believe the minimum you can buy in Australia is 100g) would last ages. I've heard AOBS has a short expiry date (the sample didn't indicate this, I guess the main tub would have) so keep this in mind if purchasing.
My skin seemed to like it at first. I have rosacea, and the redness seemed to go after using this cleanser for a couple of days. I thought I'd found my holy grail cleanser/exfoliator! However my happiness was short lived, as one day I noticed a new broken blood vessel under my skin. I thought that perhaps I had been using AOBS too much, so I stopped using it for a couple of days & tried again, just using it every few days. Unfortunately another vessel appeared so, sadly, I won't be using it anymore. My skin likes it to a point, but the almonds/exfoliant must irritate it to the point of bursting vessels.
I also got a sample of 9 To 5 at the same time, which is a smooth cleanser, it doesn't exfoliate or seem as special as AOBS but is much gentler on my skin.
So, if you have rosacea, I would stay away from this one. :(
This cleanser is amazing. Doesn't dry your skin. The smell is fantastic and somewhat relieving. I bought it and use it with the spray toner "Breath of Fresh Air". These are my very few first products from Lush since I was skeptical about this company but I'm glad I decided to give it a try. I think I'm going to stick to these 2 new babies and I'm tempted to try other stuff.
I have sensitive combination skin that until very recently wasn't very acne-prone. All I did in the form of washing my face was take off my makeup and use these 3-in-1 wipes. Then suddenly I had spots popping up all over my face. My skin decided to go nuclear on me. I tried oil-free products, sensitive-skin products and everything in between. Nothing worked. I was quite literally testing products for almost a year before I walked in to Lush to stock up on other products I love when I found AOBS. This is truly a godsend. It has reigned in my acne and I feel so much more confidence in my skin. Now I don't wear nearly half as much face makeup and it is completely and totally worth the effort it takes to use.
Ok, so this product is a mixed bag. Some things about it are wonderful, but some things are such a bother that I never want to use it.
1) This makes my skin feel lovely. It is just the tiniest bit exfoliating, but so gentle that I can barely feel it. When I rinse it off, my skin is really smooth and soft. I have good skin (maybe a touch dry) to begin with, though, so I can't say anything for those with sensitive or acne prone skin.
2) The smell is pretty strong. Herbal. It doesn't linger much after you've washed it off, but it is very apparent from the moment you've opened the tub to a few minutes after you're done. It's not offensive to me, but it could be to some people.
3) The consistency leaves something to be desired. It's an absolute pain to get this product on my face. It's moist, but rather crumbly. I usually wet my face, then wet a pinched off section of the cleanser, then try to rub the pinched off bit on my face. At some point I usually end up using more water to mash up the cleanser into a paste in my hands and then smearing that onto my face. But no matter what way I try to use this, it's always an ordeal and I always end up with a mess. A mess in my sink from the fall out (there's a lot of what looks like whole cumin seeds in this) and a mess in my hair from more fall out (it's VERY crumbly). If I use this I only use it before I get into the shower, and I strip down first.
Recap: It's nice to my skin, but I have to be in a good mood with all the time in the world in order to reach for this. I'm more of a no fuss girl, so I tend to go for something a little less high maintenance.
Soothing cleanser, makes my skin soft and feels very comfortable unlike Clinique/Proactive which makes my skin feel tight. I normally use face wipes to take off makeup. I just use cleansers to prep my skin for face creams etc. If you want to use this product to take off make up you are delusional. Invest in face wipes or another product to remove makeup. I'm shocked it took me so long to use this product. I've been a loyal Lush fan since 1996. A Lush assistant tested it on my hands. I have had such tight skin its very dry on my forehead and I've been slathering on every type of moisturizer with no avail. Even Darphin oils haven't helpd!! God bless Lush...this transformed my skin overnight. It isn't very easy to use, wet your face for 30 seconds with warm water and then get a pea size amount (I use more because I love the smell) put in palm & use some hot water and soften it up. Then message into cheeks and forehead. Viola, soft skin that is also exfoliated. It has lavender which you can see in the cleanser and smells fabulous, almonds help slough off dead skin, chamomile soothes as well. You don't need to buy a whole bunch. I asked the girl to just give me enough for two weeks, cost me $6 and its been over two weeks and I still have loads. It does expire obviously but you can buy as little or as much as you like... so don't miss out. Go in and ask some even as a sample. You'll adore this cleanser.
I used this a few months back and I do not understand all the hype about this product. It clogged my pores(and I don't have acne-prone skin), it's hard to use, it expires fast, but you use it up faster, and it just doesn't really clean anything off my skin. It didn't even take off the little bit of concealer I was wearing.
The only thing I liked about it was that it didn't dry my skin out and it didn't irritate my skin. That's why I gave it a two; most all natural products really irritate my skin.
I have combo skin, and the parts that are dry are really really dry. This cleanser is just perfect for my skin! It makes my skin feel soft and not tight or drying, and does not make my skin feel greasy at all. I am truly in love with this cleanser. You do not need very much of the product to get a nice paste going. It is amazing! Must try!
This is the one Lush product that I buy over and over again. It's the only cleanser that really seems to work for my combo skin. I have an oily t-zone and normal-dry skin on my cheeks - AOBS seems to make my whole face feel clean, soft and spot free. However, it's not cheap, and the smell is really weird. Sort of reminds me of the smell of pesto. But you get used to it over time, and I'm willing to ignore the odd smell because of the great results I get!
PROS: smell, you can choose the size, for all skin types, does not dry out skin, small amount goes a long way, tone & scrub, natural ingredients
CONS: hard to use, expiration date
Angels on bare skin claims to be a Angelic and medieval recipe for the skin. Its great for all skin types. The scrub consist of finely ground almonds and balancing lavender, a pea-sized amount will gently scrub away the day. The rose oil and lavender oil are great for toning, while the gentle exfoliation of the almonds helps to keep the skin clear and improve the texture of the skin. There is also lavender which is soothing for the skin. I went to grab one in one of the plastic pre-made containers and did notice that all of the most expensive containers were on top. I ended up grabbing the last one on the bottom and it was around $8. I have had the scrub a bit over a month and still have more than half left. The thing is the expiration date is in only a few days away now and there is no way i am going to use it all. =( The cost is $10.95 for 3.5oz. You can have them cut you a new piece for a different price or buy one of there pre-cut containers. As everyone seems to say about everything a little goes a ,way. This could not be more true. I was amazed at how the tiniest amount cleaned my entire face. Its an amazing aroma and feeling when using this scrub. I feel like i went outside and grabbed a handful of flowers and nuts to rub all over my face. Its no natural. I will say it takes a bit getting use to keeping the product on your face while scrubbing. It does not stick to your face so you have to hold it in you hand and rub it in until its used up. You can mix water and the scrub in your hand but it takes forever to get the right amounts and i feel it gets too watered down. If you don't you may drop a bit of the product. I have been using this scrub after the fresh pharmacy soap. The fresh pharmacy soap seems to dry my face out a bit and after i use the scrub it puts the moisture back in my skin. I do not think this is as expensive as the other LUSH items. I have not had any breakouts with this formula and it seems to keep my face clear. I have given samples to two friends and they both loved it. If you try anything from LUSH i would recommend this scrub or the Sea Salt. This is cheaper than Sea Salt.
AOBS is the first lush cleanser I ever tried. It is very gentle and works great during winter days. Little product goes a long way, i recommend to buy small portions so you can use it all before it expires. The scent is lovely, I absolutely love lavender and i am always in search of products with this scent. Thankfully Lush has it all.
