I received this product as a sample from a Kiehl's store, and considering you're only supposed to use 2-3 drops it was quite a large sample. I was impressed that they would use a glass dropper bottle for the sample sized, which is great for traveling since I can just refill it.
I haven't been paying attention to my skin care for quite some time other than using pro-active, and working night shift can be hell on my skin. I actually expected to hate this product because it's basically oil concentrate, and with adult-acne I was sure I'd be pimply by morning. I was surprised to find that this was a very fast, clean absorbing product that left me feeling only very slightly oily. My skin certainly glowed in the morning after just one use and I noticed a reduction in the bumps on my skin. I will be purchasing the full sized product ASAP.
If I have a negative reaction down the road I'll update, but I was impressed enough after just one night to go ahead and post a review.
I find this product works best when my skin is dehydrated or in need of a pick-me-up. The oil blend sinks well and leaves my complexion looking soothed & well-rested. Its not an essential product in my routine but I love it enough to keep it in my weekly arsenal or for a treat for my skin. I have normal/combo skin thats prone to clogging and this has never aggravated my skin or caused blackheads. The glass bottle in a gorgeous midnight blue has a dropper affixed to dispense the right amount of product. I recently brought a vial with me on a business trip and it kept my skin in great condition.
I received a generous sample dropper bottle of this with a Kiel's purchase at Neiman Marcus. I read up on it here to see if I wanted to try it, or put it in my give away basket. So, I tried it, and its ok, but I'm not seeing what the other positive reviewers did. I don't find that it makes my skin any softer than my other night creams do, and no difference in how I look during the day after it on the previous night. It has a nice inoffensive scent, is lightweight, no grease slick after applying, but no real effect either. I did follow directions and pat it onto my skin rather than rubbing. First night I used the recommended 2-3 drops, next night, when I went to pick it up, I found I'd not screwed it tight the night before and it tipped over and spilled on my mirrored vanity tray, so I used some of the puddle on my skin, probably a lot more than 3 drops equivalent, but still no better results. Then, last night I used it on one half of my face, and my Avon Gold Emulsion on the other, in the morning the Avon side was actually softer and more hydrated looking. Perhaps the Kiels helps with hyper-pigmentation and inflammation, but this is not much of a problem for me, I do have a very few small melasma which I've been treating for a few months now, and any change would have to be gradual I'm thinking. I didn't dislike it, had no bad reaction, did not wake dehydrated the next morning or anything, just did not find it is a product that works particularly well for me.
I wish I could love this essential oil. However, for combination skin, I believe It's a little oily. I got a sample, and applied on my face and my neck. Just two days, I got the break out on my face and my neck! And it took one week for them to disappear. I agree it's a very good product for dry skin.
I picked up a sample from the Kiehl's store and it lasted me 2 weeks: about 3-4 drops per night. I enjoyed using this (mostly because of the smell) BUT considering that I get the exact same amount of moisturization from jojoba oil and rose hip seed oil this is a pretty lame waste of 40 bucks. It does smell nice but if you're bent on using things like squalane and evening primrose oil you can buy that stuff on ebay for way less (and in significantly larger quantities). If you want it to smell like lavender then get some essential lavender oil while you're at it.
I have no idea what the long term effects of using this would be but I have a feeling that just getting a good moisturizer (ie: jojoba oil which is "similar to human sebum"), drinking lots of water and wearing sunscreen will do a comparable job.
This did not diminish any of the near non existent flaws I typically find in my skin (tiny lines next to eyes, small pimples, morning eye circles/puffiness) and the "glow" I had in the morning was from sleeping and using moisturizer (see above suggestions for moisturizer). One nice thing is that the oil does absorb very quickly.
i bought this b'cos the sales guy was selling me all the goodness about this product and i was so blown away. [im that gullible.. lol]
after trying it out that very night, i noticed my skin aborbed the oil very easily, no heavy oily feel at all. when i woke up the next day, i saw that my still red but recovering acne marks were all lightened and it flattened 1 bump by half too!
after about a week of use or so, my skin has gotten better, it is softer, more supple, more plumped up, more even toned, in short, just positive!
This is a miracle in a bottle!!! Been using it for 2 months and I LOVE IT!!!! My skin looks amazing. It's more even toned, soft, just glowing. It moisturizes beautifully, no breakouts. This is the one product I cannot do without!!
I have really oily, sensitive skin, but has read a ton of reviews that claimed this helped both of those conditions. It seems wrong and counter intuitive. But I can say that after using this for 2 weeks I LOVE this serum. I out it on last at night right before I go to bed and I wake up with my skin looking soft, puffy and not at all oily. I have broken out less, too. It may not be something that I use during the summer, but during the colder and dryer months I will continue to use this.
Add me to the list of people who love this serum. I picked this up because I wanted some extra moisture during the dry MN winters, and I have been very pleased with it. I've used it for about 2 months and i think it does a great job of moisturizing my skin. You only need 2-3 drops at a time, so a bottle will last quite a while. I have no objective proof, but I think my skin looks better when I use this - brighter and softer. It stinks of lavender, though. I hate the smell of lavender, and the fact that I've kept using this, and will repurchase, says a lot considering the strong lavender scent. If you can get a sample from Kiehl's, try that first - the sample I got was huge and lasted me a couple weeks.
With combo skin, I have oily t-zone and drier cheeks. I am a loyal user of Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. After trying out this "elixir", I am very impressed!
On first use, I woke up the next morning with an extremely calm and well rested skin, soft to the touch. Though it can be used on its own, however after applying this, I applied La Mer gel cream, just a thin layer is more than enough. The "elixir" only requires 2 drops for whole face and so far this is the best night repair products I've ever used.
