When I used Clinique as my main product line, those gift with purchase sets were like candy at Christmas! The Black Honey lip product came in one of those gifts and I was really, really skeptical about it looking good on me. (REALLY pale, light pink lips) But, amazingly, it did look good on me. I kept it in my purse as my touchup lip color and it lasted about a year. It is sheer and it really doesn't have much holding power, but it's better than naked dry lips!
I have stopped using most Clinique products so I would not buy this one again (didn't love it THAT much) but if it was a freebie it would go into my purse as a reliable touchup lip color. It looked good with anything I had on that day.

I gave into the hype and bought it. Is it the most awesome thing ever? No. It is a sheer glossy berry, on me it's not bright or vulgar, gives me just a wash of berry color. It's pretty and feels slick but not sticky. It doesn't last long. I like the lipstick, A Different Grape, that came as GWP more than I like this. I agree with the other reviewers here that it is drying. It's great for a quick swipe of color, but for all day wear, I'll pick something longer lasting and more moisturizing.

This is really pretty. Way way overpriced, as is all makeup in Australia. I paid a hideous and rather embarrassing amount of money for this, well over $30 and it is basically just tinted balm. A very pretty one however, like I said. I love the gel-like consistency. It can actually end up dark-ish on me, because I very pink lips. The colour you get on your lips does depend a lot on your natural lip colour, but I do think you're able to build the colour up quite a bit depending on what you're going for. I fourth picture depicts the appearance of the product (on my lips) quite well. I love using this in winter when I want to give my lips a little more "oomph" to brighten up my face.

Black honey lip gloss in the pot was THE lip gloss to have in the 70s/80s. Why oh why did C. decide to discontinue it? I loved my pot gloss. This stuff is garbage. The C.G. Natureluxe Gloss Balm in Clover slightly dupes this color and is more moisturizing on lips, however it, too, doesn't have much lasting power. Oh how I miss my pot gloss. Anyone out there remember the Yardley Pot O' Glosses? I had a peach one that smelled fruity and was my other HG in the early 80s.

I purchased this many years ago because this was not a color or formula I'd ordinarily be attracted to. I was needing something other than my red and garnet lipsticks for a change. Shortly thereafter a fashion magazine noted (at that time) this was a favorite of Madonna. Meaningless to me. Black Honey is a shimmer free, sheer, shiny prune/eggplant colored lip product that can't sort out what it wants to be. Almost Lipstick is the perfect catagory, part gloss, part lipstick and part lip balm but; not enough of any to be much of anything. I don't dislike the color, yet when I wear this ladies stop and ask me what I'm wearing. To it's credit if your a fair complected blond this is stunning. The formula doesn't last and after repeated wear irritates my lips terribly, leaving them cracked, dry and peeling. Upon application I like the look but then my lip skin starts to feel very dry and uncomfortable. I have to wear Blistex underneath this in order to prevent irritation and give this an anchor for staying power. With all it's shine and glossiness you'd think some moisturization would be imparted. Not so. I believe devotees worship this in the same manner some love Nars Orgasm blush. Hype does wonders for a product. When my tube is empty this will not be repurchased and I don't recommend.

Well, I never buy Clinique products, but I am really enjoying this lovely cross between a lipstick and a balm! I purchased it to use up the remainder of a Macy's gift card I have had in my purse for about 5 months! I needed something around $10, so $14.50 was close enough for me. :-)
I had read about the universally flattering shade, and I do feel that for this fair-skinned gal, it is true! It comes across as a rosy, berry color, leaning to a very natural dark, sheer red. It feels like a balm on my lips.
My lips feel like they are saying ahhhhhh......
Nice purchase!
Edit** I still would recommend this product, but I do find it a bit drying. You would think it would be moisturizing, as it feels that way going on, but it does tend to dry out my lips. That and the mediocre staying power have caused me to reach for it less frequently. One lippie off, but still a lovely, mistake-proof product for a quick flush of color.

Well, it didn't work well for me, colorwise. *sigh* I had to give it away to a co-worker because I didn't feel like have to add other colors on top of it to work. I was looking for something sheer, moisturizing, with a hint of color - which it DID do - just wasn't the right color for me. BUT, if it were the right color, I'd be on it!
I love this color. The product itself is slightly better than average, but I can't seem to get it to go on smoothly without lip balm. It certainly stays a bit longer than other lipsticks in my experience, though.
Love this lipstick!! I will always repurchase - perfect for jeans and t-shirt. You have to apply often - but I don't mind since it's glossy and that's what you have to do. Very casual, no way to mess it up, very natural and matches a lot of skin tones, worth the money to have in your purse at all times! It will last you a long time - that's what makes it worth it.

Saw the display at the clinique counter and thought I would give it a try. It looked like a sheer, dark purple on my lips. Nevertheless, I was still intrigued by it.
I came home and checked the reviews posted here and figured that the sample at the counter may have been an old one. I decided to take the plunge and purchased it today.
Wow! Am I ever glad that I did! I love it. It goes on like a sheer berry wash that looks perfect with my coloring. I can't stop looking at myself in the mirror! I found the staying power to be consistent with other regular lipsticks and I didn't find it drying. I highly recommend that you try it if you haven't already.
This is my new HG lipstick!
