I'm kind of torn on this product. I have acne prone, very oily skin. I've actually been using this product for a year and here are my experiences with this cleanser: Initially it really did make my skin feel super tight to the touch (I mean, I was afraid my skin was going to bleed to the touch it was so tight!). I didn't like this feeling at all. But my skin got used to it, I guess and the tight feeling went away in a month or a little less.
It is a very strong product. It even bleached one of my Ralph Lauren robes! The only reason I am giving this product the rating I gave it was that my skin has been clearing up which is due to this cleanser with the combo of acne cream afterwards. I can't say which one contributed more to my clear skin but there were weeks I didn't use the cream and my skin has stayed clear for the most part. Whenever I felt something coming, I put Neutrogena Acne spot treatment on.
Nowadays my technique with this cleanser is to wash the fash for 15-20 seconds only. I feel this is more than adequate to wash off all the makeup and oil. Anymore, and I can feel the dryness. The downsides to this is that even after a year of using this product on and off, my skin and lips look very dry, even when I sloth on moisturizer afterwards. I only use this at nighttime and use a gentle cleanser in the morning. When doing makeup the next morning, I can see clearly how my skin is drying. I'm young and I know its not me!
Again, I'm only giving it the marks because I do believe the salyclic acid is doing wonders for my pores and my skin has been looking clear (but dry). But I am looking for alternatives that are just as effective without the drying effect. I just haven't found a cleanser yet that helped me maintain clear skin.
I don't get the reviews saying " i have dry and sensitive skin and this has dryed my skin out". Well, what did you expect from an oil-free acne cleanser?
Nevertheless, i do have very oily skin w/big pores and i thought that this cleaner is kinda harsh to dry my oilyness a little bit. But the results have beaten my expectations. The skin was completely dry out, it even started to peel, and not on my cheeks(i just didnt apply it there), on my nose and forehead. Thats's terrible. Also the smell is very medicine-y and not plesant at all. I do not recommend to buy it to anyone
I resolved to follow a regular skincare routine once I had started college. As it is, i never had problematic skin, but it was just so oily and hard to keep perfectly clear that i didnt really bother trying to keep clean beyond a morning wash. Now I use the oil free acne wash twce day and since then, my skin's been in tip top shape. Except for the occasional pimple here and there my skin is clearer than ever before so im really impressed. Of course i will say that some credit goes to my aveeno moisturizer and my BC which keep my hormones in check. Sress is definitely at an all time-high right now and this stuff seems to be keeping up fairly well with this shizz and the rest. Love it.
this product, for my skin anyway, makes it so tight and dry and always makes my acne worse. I see such great reviews on this product and wish i had the same experience, but this is just far to irritating to my skin:(
This is the first ever cleanser to break me out! Way too drying. I have combination skin and it broke me out after the first use, this product is probably only appropriate for really oily skin. It didn't do anything but cause me to have really dry, tight (not in a good way) irritated skin.
This cleanser is one of many I've used while trying to clear my skin. My breakouts were no better while using it. I even tried it for my body breakouts and liked it better for that purpose but it still didn't give clear skin. I did purchase several times hoping every time that maybe it would work. I know it has won the allure award and others but it just didnt work for me. My sister used it for years but her skin was never as problematic as mine. It is cheap though so def worth a try.
Seriously, I don't understand why this product has such poor ratings.
It's cheap, goes a long way, washes away all makeup etc and really cleans your skin, smells ok, great packaging etc..and most important: It does the job! I never had great skin.. But ever since I've started using this wash almost religiously (min. morning and evening, sometimes also inbetween) my skin has improved SO much, seriously!
People, stop giving it less lippies cuz it doesn't smell of roses..After all, you're not purchasing a perfume here..you want clear skin! Less scent etc=often less irritation. ;)
This is my go-to cleanser. I use this cleanser every morning and the nightly cleanser (the purple one with the little beads in it) at night. Thanks to this system my skin stays on POINT. Rare zits (usually hormone induced) and the ones I do get are gone in 48-72 hours, nor do they get huge like the big, painful cystic zits I used to get. I get the big bottle from Walmart and it lasts forever.
This is very very very drying on skin and it made my pimples way worse than it was before. My skin usually likes salicylic acid, but I think it's the detergent in this cleanser that is too irritating for my skin.
