Oh baby. Oh yes. HG foundation for me. I've given it 5 lippies, which for me is rare.
I love this stuff so much, I want to take it to city hall and marry it. Even more than its amazing performance, I love that it proves that you don't have to stick with the large name brands (I'm talking about YOU, Make Up For Ever, MAC, Chanel, etc) to get a great product. I can't believe more people haven't raved about this, but just watch - it'll get around by word of mouth and really take off soon, I suspect.
I hope they never change the blend of this foundation. Thank the heavens above that I found it. I can't imagine any foundation impressing me more, unless I find one that also cleans my kitchen and does my laundry.
I don't know where to begin or how to find the words to express my love for this formula, but to finally have stumbled upon something I love so much after so many years of searching feels like winning the lottery. I could sing and dance its praises.
Basically, it does everything you'd want a foundation to do. It is SO versatile, so I would say any skin type could use it. If you tend to be dry, you can blend this in with a damp sponge and get an amazing affect, or mix with your moisturizer. If you're oily, ladies, this will knock your socks off.
It stays for HOURS. How it manages to do that without looking like a mask is beyond me. This, coupled with the Vichy Dermablend translucent setting powder, makes me one happy and satisfied gal.
Here's the list of PROS:
1. incredible lasting power
2. buildable (but you probably wouldn't need to build it, the first application is quite enough product for probably anyone)
3. easily applied, easily blended
4. great price
5. a little goes a long way
6. the bottle will last you forever
7. not cakey
8. can be made sheer or thick, depending on your needs
9. not drying
10. not oily
11. not greasy
12. can be used on pretty much any skin type
The best pro I want to highlight is the backbone and main marketing point of the blend, which is that it COVERS. I have baaaad under eye circles, and I've struggled for years to find the perfect product or blend of concealers that would help me out with that area. This foundation almost completely covers my under eye circles and discoloration on its own. All I do after application is pop on the tiniest bit of my Maybelline Dream Mousse concealer under the eye to get a FLAWLESS face. Seriously, it makes me look like I have perfect skin, which is far from the truth. I just love that this product can do whatever you want it to.....you can go back with a tiny bit of it and use a small brush to cover any larger acne spots, scars, or zits that may need slight additional coverage.
BE CAREFUL how much you squeeze out of the tube - you will only need a pea-size amount for your whole face, no kidding. I've made the mistake 4 or 5 times now where I squeezed out a dime-size amount and ended up wasting half of it. So just squeeze a little out, apply, and if you need more you can always squeeze it out again.
The only possible con I can come up with doesn't even apply to me, but it's that the shade range is so small. I'm currently using #15 Opal, it's the lightest shade they have, and it's perfect for me. It looks much darker in the bottle than how it applies to my skin, as I'm quite fair, so I feel that maybe it works like those "tone-adjusting" foundations that sort of change to fit your skin...?? I have no idea. But I feel like each color would probably work for several skin tones. The #15 Opal I have would work for porcelain-light skin, anything in the lightest few shade ranges, but definitely not medium tones. You'd need to go to the next color for that.
Anyway, I can't rave about this enough without sounding like I work for the company. Haha. I hope you'll all give it a try and fall in love with it as I have! It truly delivers.
To commenter below, I think the product that's getting discontinued is the Vichy foundation that's in the pot, b/c they're replacing it with the cream stick. I think this product is still on their permanent collection. :)
The Vichy dermablend corrective foundation is AMAZING. It's perhaps the ONLY thing that can cover my dark eye circles, and let me tell you... I have really bad dark eye circles b/c of constantly staying up till 5am doing projects, or studying for midterms for my classes. Now I don't necessarily use this as a foundation, my main purpose or only purpose for buying this is to use as an under eye concealer. It does not disappoint b/c it's SUPER pigmented, while at the same time, it looks super natural and it feels great when it's on. It's also very long wearing. I put it on today at 830 AM in the morning, and by 11PM, the majority of it was still there! As others have mentioned below, a little goes a long way!
You'll love this concealer/foundation! :D It has replaced my bobbi brown cremay concealer and corrector (didn't like it b/c it kept creasing no matter what!). LOVE this product.
For reference, I'm an NC20 or NW20, and I use opal. It's just right under the eyes.
Let me start this review by saying that I have extremely oily, acne prone skin with scarring and hyper pigmentation. If.that's not bad enough, i'm 45, and though I have no wrinkles, my skin is losing some of it's youthful elasticity. Okay, so on to my review. I am constantly searching for that one product that's just gonna make me look in the mirror and say "dang you look great". Estee Lauder's double wear is a faavorite of mine but sometimes feels too heavy. I saw lisa eldridges tutorial on covering acne scars followed by a review and tutorial by juicytuesday and I just had to try it. The color range is very limited but luckily shade 35 matches me perfectly. This foundation is highly buildable. I dab just a little extra on those spots that need it. A little of this product goes a long way. If you use a small amount and just build (I stipple it on) it looks natural and blurs out my scars. It hasn't broken me out but since its heavy i'm careful to use my clarisonic to clean my face whenever I use this product. I'm loving this foundation right now.
I bought this product because of the hipe on youtube. Well first I was very satisfied. The cover it gave me was pretty decent and also the look, when correclty blended was amazing. But after one week of use I broke out. My skin got better when I stopped using it. What I also realised was that it made my t-zone shinier than it usually is.
After some weeks I wanted to give it a second try, and the same happend to me again.
Won`t buy this prouduct again!
My main priority with a foundation is that it does not cause break-outs. If it does not deliver, that is one thing, but to make my skin worse is another. I doubt that this prouduct has had a detrimental effect on my skin, so it has this in it's favour. To begin with, being unaccustomed to wearing foundation at the moment, I was very impressed with this foundation; from afar it gave me a more polished, put-together look. I felt more presentable to the world, and like I had made an obvious effort. As the couple of weeks have gone by, I'm no longer happy with it. First of all, it comes off if I simple lightly scratch my face, and yes, it does make skin crawl over the course of the day becuase it makes it very oily. It's like there's this layer that is not set on the skin, and it makes me feel very self-concious when somebody is talking to me right up close, because it is very obvious to see on the surface of the skin. The other point to make is that up close it also does not cover blemishes. The tiny tiny ones, it does, but not whitehead spots that have done their thing, and are healing. It also doesn't cover scars. If you do not need much coverage, this foundation is okay. But that misses the point completely, because this foundation has double pigment with the purpose of covering. I won't be throwing it out, but I wouldn't re-purchase- I'd like to think that there is a better foundation out there. I research the ingredients of products before I put them on my skin these days. The only ingredeint in this prooduct that causes even the teeniest bit of concern for acne-prone skin, is Dimethicone; it has a comedogenic rating of 1, on a scale of 1-5, so it doesn't make alarm bells ring. I am now going to be trying Double Wear by Estee-Lauder. It is a re-visit for me with this foundation. It gives a matte movie-star finish from my experience so far, and I prefer it to the Vicky Dermablend so far. Watch this space....
Lisa Eldridge was right, this foundation is amazing on acne-prone skin. I trust what she says and I bought it a couple of months ago when I watched that video. As a spot treatment on covering acne it works great. If I used this as a face foundation, I find that it's a bit too thick. I like to put MAC's face & body all over and cover up redness and scaring with dermablend. If you have scaring and acne the coverage is incredible. Two problems I found though. (1) The shade selection. Terrible. There's only like 5 shades. I bought 25, but it was too orange, but I liked it enough to purchase another tube in 15. Of course 15 is way too light, so I have to mix the two. That's annoying, because they should expand their shade range. (2) Finally, I find it can make my face greasy, especially if I wear it alone. Also there's no way that I can get 12 hours with this foundation. I don't find it long wearing at all and I'm lucky if I get 5 hours before it fades and gets shiny. My skin isn't oily and I always use powder anyways, but I seem to get a sheen no matter what. I do think this foundation is worth the extra time and effort, and I will keep repurchasing it.
UPDATE: I haven't repurchased this one. The shade selection is terrible and I think the Laura Mercier's silk cream foundation is much better. I'm willing to pay more for a foundation shade that matches!
This is my favorite foundation of ALL time. I absolutely can't say anything bad about this product. I use oil-free in nude and it is the exact color of my skin. It evens out my skintone perfectly and I have some acne scarring and it covers so well. Because it is oil-free it NEVER breaks my skin out or makes it oily. My skin looks flawless without being cakey looking or orange. I never have to use powder over the foundation, it works well on its own. I have used so many foundations over the years, trying to find one that A.) doesn't break my skin out B) will over imperfections C) doesn't look cakey is so hard. It is impossible to find all of these things in a foundation and this product is it. I love it. About $30.00 a tube, lasts me 5 months. So worth it. I'd recommend this product to anyone.
I got this for $28 at CVS, and around £15 in the UK, where I currently am.
Shade: I'm Asian with light-medium skintone, with a MAC NW25 shade in the winter and NC30-35 in the summer. I'm currently also a Sunny Beige in Laura Mercier's Oil Free Foundation. I have this foundation in Nude 25.
Overall: I'm very impressed by this foundation. It's the winter and I currently have dry combination skin that's acne prone (and is being abused by prescription acne medication aka Retin-A Micro that dries it out even more).
Pros: This is an excellent full coverage foundation - one pea sized amount is enough to cover the entire face and to spot conceal blemishes. In fact it's so full coverage that it looks a tad bit unnaturally matte and powdery if you apply with the fingers, but I've learned to apply it with a damp sponge and it'll look just like skin but better. I set it with my Laura Mercier Mineral Foundation Powder and it stays put all day. Because this foundation requires so little, it will really last - and also because it has 25% more pigment than most other foundations, you definitely get more than what you pay for.
I have also not broken out or reacted from this foundation, despite having sensitive, acne prone and dry skin, which is a major plus, since I break out from everything.
Cons: This foundation WILL highlight dry skin, so I highly recommend moisturizing well before applying. Also, the shade selection is extremely limited. When I bought it at the time, shade 25 was too light, and 35 was too dark. I got the lighter shade thinking that I could use bronzer to darken it to my skintone, but my face just looked pasty after the bronzer was applied.
Despite that I would highly recommend this for anyone with acne-prone and sensitive skin. This product sounds like a godsend - high coverage, oil free, non-comedogenic, fragrance free, tested on sensitive skin... and for me it is a godsend. I hope my review helps!
I bought this a few days ago because I want to start using expensive foundation since I have such problematic skin. I have acne scarring - some of it is pretty deep, others are just red marks, I also have active acne, some redness, freakishy sensitive skin and sometimes really dry and flaky skin. I have to be really careful with what I put on my face because it reacts to everything. I bought this foundation hoping it would cover my imperfections while making my skin actually look nice and in return not break me out. I'm happy to say that this foundation did everything I was hoping it would. The color match is also amazing. I have fair skin with golden/yellow undertones and finding a shade that matches my skin exactly is very difficult since I'm not dark enough to be considered as having a medium skintone, but I'm a lot darker than most fair-skin people. I was really surprised that the lightest shade (Opal) matched my skin perfectly. Outside in natural light and even under harsh lighting, it matches my skin so perfectly that I don't have to worry about getting that dreaded line on my chin from not blending it properly down into my neck. Ever since I started wearing this make-up I have been getting compliments from people that are brutally honest and they've been telling me my make-up looks great. This cost me $30 + tax at Shopper's Drug Mart. I used to use CoverFX before and while I really liked it, I realized my skin was changing and CoverFX didn't really look amazing on me anymore - my face looked super shiny after and the coverage wasn't that nice. CoverFX is also more expensive than Dermablend foundation. I also like the fact that you only need to use a pea-sized amount of Dermablend to cover your whole face. I apply make-up with a *very* heavy hand, so applying such a tiny amount seemed ridiculous to me but the beautician at Shopper's showed me how to properly apply the foundation with a brush and now I know how to do it properly without wasting a ton of my foundation. As long as it's covering up my acne and scars and not breaking me out, I will keep repurchasing this!
EDIT: This foundation makes me look greasy and shiny after a couple of hours. Will I stop buying this? No. But I will definitely have to buy a better powder to help control the greasiness.
EDIT: It is July 2012 and I am STILL using this foundation. I think this is the longest I have ever stuck with one foundation. It is absolutely amazing. Yes, I still have problems with it looking greasy but it's nothing a little bit of powder or oil blotting sheets can't fix. Best of all, this foundation has still NEVER EVER broken me out which is a huge must for my make-up needs! Lately I have had some problems with my foundation making me look a little too pale (or as my sister would say, "you look like a flourescent ghost"). I thought it was a little strange considering I haven't tanned and my skin doesn't look darker. I add just a tiny amount of some of my Cover FX Foundation I used when I was really tanned last summer (shade NE 40) to my Vichy Dermablend foundation and blend them together. The blend gives me some color to my face without making me look orange or dark in a fake way. I find that the combination of both foundations is also amazing.
it's alright at most... I have acne marks and it covers them slightly, but if I want to cover them fully it looks like a mask on my face. The marks aren't even that red, they're actually quite light compared to what they were like.
My skin is really oily and it doesn't stay on for long, and I get shiny quickly on my t-zone. It's also not very easy to blend.
Basically, the only good thing I found about this was how I found an exact colour match, didn't clog my pores (weird because it's so thick, my pores get congested so easily), and didn't have an offensive smell.
