I got this for gratis at work but this is originally $38, personally I feel it's incredibly way too expensive for a facial cleanser/makeup remover. The smell is amazing but that's honestly the only thing I like about it.i went to a seminar for work and I was told to apply it onto a cotton round and then put it on my face when I went home that night I tried it (for the seminar we tried it on our hands) and it honestly took forever to take my makeup off. You're supposed to be able to just "melt" your mascara away even waterproof and I had to rub as much as I hated it to get my mascara off. I've used it a few times after that and still don't like it this is basically a last resort product for me.
I love the scent of this cleanser. It smells like the luxurious cleansers used when I go for my facial treatments. My face feels very clean but not tight after washing. In fact, it feels moisturized. (I have combination/sensitive skin.)
I use baby oil to remove waterproof eye makeup first, before using this cleanser for the makeup on my face. It helps to let the cleanser sit for a few mins to dissolve the makeup completely before rinsing off.
Not sure if I will repurchase due to the price, I might stray to a new cleanser after finishing the bottle.
UPDATE: 2 Jan 2013. I have stopped using this 1/3 way into the bottle. I have switched to using only raw honey to do a face wash, and Pond's cold cream to remove makeup. My skin went from being oily to normal, and it stopped flaking! Soaps are bad for your face. Really.
Recently found out my favorite face wash has been discontinued, so In search of a new fav I decided to try this as one of my deluxe samples at Sephora. I have used it the past 3 days and I think I'm ready to never use it again!
Pros: Smells Awesome! (smells like Aveda products), and my face feels really soft after using it.
Cons:Makes me break out!! Yuck, I have had gross huge whiteheads every morning when waking up since trying this stuff. Also It doesn't remove my eye make up at all, and I have pretty much only had a little regular mascara on the past couple days.. not impressed since they claim its removes makeup.
I'll never purchase this, and I will never recommend it. I probably won't be trying anything else from this brand all together.
i love the smell & packaging, the smell is amazing and almost sentimental, but the thing that stopped me from wanting it is the ingredients. i believe this has parabens in it :[ it might have also broken me out, i don't remember. but it smells. so. good. like a little lemony cake.
I recommend this cleanser for those with oily or combination skin types.
It removes my makeup better than anything - I use it with my Clarisonic Mia, but even without it I always found that my skin was very fresh and clean (but NOT tight) after using this product. I kept buying the smallest size thinking I would tire of it (I change my cleansers often), but I seem to keep wanting this one in my regimen.
The smell is like a lot of philosophy products - earthy. Don't expect to be wowed, it's herbal but I find it pleasant.
I have acne prone and very oily skin and this product did not work for me. It caused me to break out in areas I don't normally break out with deep cystic acne. It caused my super oily skin to become dry to the point where I'm peeling. I do like the clean scent and it did remove my makeup (mascara included). Just wish this would have worked for me.

I originally tried this because I received a sample in one of those monthly subscription boxes. I liked it, and saved up my points to get a full size for free.
Packaging: simple plastic bottle. the 8oz bottle was filled to the brim and easily dispensable.
Texture/Scent: very smooth, when it touches your skin, its so soft. Not a bad scent. I would call it very "clean" smelling.
Performance: I own one of the generic clairisonic face scrubbers. It works amazing with it. Very nice lather, and a little product goes a long way. It makes my face feel very clean--not rubbery or tight like some products do. I dont give it a better rating because for the price, it doesnt do anything amazing. It cleanses my skin fine, it doesnt break it out. But there are a few drugstore cleansers that I use/used that do just as good of a job. The other negative, and i dont know if anyone else experienced this, but the last 1/4 of the bottle ended up being very very watery. Strange. The texture completely changed. I dont keep my bottle in the shower, I keep it in the cabinet. Not sure what happened there!
I would buy this product again if I had points like i did before where i could get it for free or at a discount. I dont know if i would pay full price though.
By itself, this product does nothing on my face.
I have oily T-zone and the rest of my face is dry/normal. Using this cleanser by itself completely sucked out any moisture left and my face felt dry to touch.
I prefer to use this after applying the philosophy microdelivery exfolianting wash. Somehow it works better in conjunction with the exfoliant and my face is nice to touch after I am done.
Honestly, I was a little disappointed with this product. Looking through the reviews, I saw that A LOT of people love Purity by Philosophy products, so I was very excited when I got a sample. At first, I liked it. It takes off makeup well (although some nights I would have to use some extra remover around my eyes) and a little goes a long way with this product. I got a 30 ml bottle about a month ago, and I still have a bit left after using it almost everyday, so I feel like although it's a bit on the expensive side, you won't need to repurchase often.
Unfortunately, this is where the positive ends. This product broke my skin out like no other. I have acne prone skin already, but I'll only ever have one or two spots at a time and cleansing regularly with basically any drugstore cleanser keeps things under control. But after using this for a few weeks, the entire lower half of my face is COVERED in spots, and since this is the only change in my routine, I'm assuming it's the cause.
Since so many other people rave about Purity, I'm sure it works, but just not for me. Definitely not repurchasing this one.
I tend to stray to try new facial cleansers but I always come back to this one. I have combo/oily skin depending on the season and this really does remove all makeup and oil without making mye feel overly dry. Now I get the occasional pimple but I don't see this helping others who suffer from severe acne breakouts. I purchased the 24oz bottle at the end of december and I usually use this twice a day and it's lasted about 8-9 months. So while it might seem expensive at first, it really does last. I even use this to clean my brushes and sponges! Definitely give it a try.
