I have oily acne prone skin, been battling acne since I was 14. I've usually stuck with Neutrogena because my derm recommended them, the only one that worked for my skin was the sensitive formula with no SPF, not good.
So I took a gamble with this, I got the reformulated version and it worked on my skin. My skin is typically so sensitive, easily hurts from wrong ingredients, turns red, breaks out. So I was shocked to read the reviews here - because my skin has been glowing - no breakouts, no redness, no irritation. I do need to put some mattyfying powder over top, otherwise it looks too glowy, but not a greasy oily look...
I am in love with this, and glad it has better UVA protection, because I will try to avoid wrinkles for as long as I can. AND I can use this around my eyes without any stinging at all :O I am shocked... this has never happened before- I've used all kinds of sunscreens for the past 11 years and they all sting after a whole day of wear it starts to seep into my eyes and I sometimes can't even drive cus my eyes are tearing up. This stuff is wonderful :) yeaaaaa
This is my all time fav moisturizer <3 I was sooooOOO happy to finally find a moisturizer that doesn't breakout my face! I have been using this product for three years and I love it. I am on my last bottle and only have about a half left. I'm not happy that they changed the ingredients, so I guess I'm just gonna have to make mine last until April, when they change it back to the old ingredients. Some reviewers have mentioned other products similar to this, but I'm afraid to try them : / I just don't understand why they changed the ingriedients in the first place if everyone loves it so much? Until April I guess <3
just bought this yesterday, so far love it. i have sensitive skin, this burns less than the cetaphil spf and has better ingredients.
Th new version of this is so horrible, I went on the Olay website and requested to buy any old stock they had in the warehouse! I have been milking my ol bottle a while- now...but the other day I went back on the website and saw tons or horrid reviews for the new version. The outcry was so big that Olay posted they will br bringing BACK the original formula in APRIL 2010!!! It will be called "Classic" and be the old formula everyone has missed. I am sooo thrilled. This is the best product ever w/ sunscreen...actually, the ONLY one I can use w/o a bad reaction. The new formula was terrible!! My Thanks went out to Olay for going back to the original...I would be hard pressed o a sunscreen if they hadn't.
Will buy Classic formula forever.
Used the old formula for about a year, break out free. The new formula created...BREAK OUT CITY. I was wondering how my clear skin went to bumps in a less than a week, and then I realized its this "great NEW and IMPROVED" moistruizer. Going in the garbage ASAP.
Wow, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who found this "improved" formula to be extremely irritating. While I was recently a little dismayed to read Paula's review of the *original* version (she stated that the sensitive formula had potentially irritating ingredients), I had never had any problems with it (and would bounce b/w this and the "normal"-whichever was on the shelves at the time). I may or may not have read that the UVA protection was lacking (pretty sure she had said that), so when I saw that this had *more* UVA protection, I was relieved. That is, until I actually wore it. My skin was positively on fire. But being the stickler about sun protection that I am (and being financially strapped at the moment), I persisted. And so did the burning. Within a week of using the "improved" version, I noticed extremely large pores on my cheeks pop up, virtually overnight. The kind that usually appear in women in their 30's. Their appearance coincided with the use of this, so I don't think it's coincidental. While I've ceased use, I really don't think my pores will ever return to normal-that the damage is done. I've read someone's description of the condition I'm talking about as "dart board" and that's exactly what it looks like. I will *NEVER* be returning to this. I'm leery of even trying the "normal" version, for fear of the same. I've been using this moisturizer w/sunscreen for years and will have to find something else. Thanks Olay, for ruining this product (and in all probability, for ruining my skin).
I have used the old formula of this product for years, not because it's perfect, but because it was as close as I had ever found (and I have tried a lot of others). It moisturized well enough and didn't make my skin break out as so many others have.
When I went to repurchase, I was very disappointed to learn that they had changed the formula. I am not just "jumping on the band-wagon here." I did go and purchase (and use) the new version myself before writing this review. As so many others have reported, it now makes my skin break out. I am very much in favor of change and innovation, but I feel they should have left the old version “in tact,” while still offering the new version, thereby leaving loyal customers a “choice” of products.
Additionally, I went to the Olay website and e-mailed them twice asking if they were going to bring the old formula back (as I had read in some other reviews) and they have not responded (not even an automatic response). I find this lack of customer service unacceptable. I have e-mailed several companies in the past with questions/concerns regarding their products and have always gotten the courtesy of a thoughtful reply. Good customer service is extremely important to me and for this reason, I am likely not to purchase products from Olay in the future.
I think it is great that the new version of the product works well for some people and I wish I were one of them. However, I am not and I am writing to share “my opinion” of the product with others, so that they may evaluate the information and do with it as they choose (perhaps not waste their time or money on the product). After all, that is what “review sites” are intended for.
***EDIT*** I just wanted to let others know I did finally hear back from an Olay rep. This response came approximately a week after my original email to them, but in all fairness to the company, they did reply back. If anyone is interested, below is what they said concering bringing back the original version of the product:
(Quote from Olay rep):
I would like to share with you that we did decided to relaunch our Original Sensitive version. The original version will be widely available in April 2010 and will say “Classic Gentle Formula”.
I can't say I've tried the old version, but I do think that the new formula is rather nice. I put in on in the mornings right before I run out the door. I like that when I have to run to class the sweat can get through the sunscreen rather than just sit underneath for awhile. I'm also sort of glad that even though it isn't 'natural', the chemical sunscreen does afford a better protection than the zinc oxide did. I've been burnt under the zinc one before on even mildly sunny days, and it's not like I'm super pale. The formula isn't as gritty and heavy as neutrogena or clean and clear sensitive skin moisturizers, and is a lot faster to dry than merlot.
A really great product to use in all seasons (except the winter, when I have to precede it with some other kind of serum or emulsion).
Awesome product to use everyday under make up. Very light and really mositurizing! I even mix it with my studio fix fluid and make my own tinted mositurizer. Great great product and the price doesn't hurt either. A++++++
