I had to delete my previous review on this and re-write one. I have fallen in love with this again! My previous review wasn't good, I must have been using an old tube, b/c I didn't like it then. But OMG - this stuff is awesome!
What I love:
- it is DARK black - super black
- does not fade at the end of the day
- it is almost an instant volume mascara, I never have to apply more than 2 coats. Even for going-out lashes.
- hardly EVER flakes
- it's super easy to remove if you know the trick! See below...
- the tube is SO pretty
- you can get it pretty cheap on eBay
What I hate:
- It DOES clump if you want to go on to 3 or more coats from what I've experienced - but you don't really have to go that much b/c for me 2 coats does the job.
****HOW TO REMOVE THIS MASCARA****
Ok, I found this out on accident - and omg it works like a charm. First, I wet/soak my lashes in water. In the bathroom sink, I cup water to my closed eyes and soak my lashes for like 20 seconds, then I just kind of gently pull the mascara off with my fingers/fingernails, and it comes of in little sticks/tubes - awesome! And then I just rub the rest off with a makeup remover - otherwise this is really hard to remove alone with MU remover.
I like this mascara. It's always been a staple in my makeup bag. I've tried alot of other mascaras, but so far this is the the best. I love the way it makes my lashes look bigger. I only have one gripe. It tends to smudge very easily.
Okay, so let me start by saying- I HATE pyramid scheme brands, Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, whatever... I am not trying to be mean, but I really hate them!
Back to the MK Ultimate Mascara. I went for a MK "facial" as a favor for a friend which was my 1st mistake. By the time they were done with me I looked like a whore macerating as a clown; it was REALLY bad! My friend tried to convince me that the Ultimate Mascara was a great product and urged me to take a sampe tube. Well, it wasn't:
This mascara was clumpy, too wet, and had no staying power!
I've been wearing this product for years, but now I'm no longer going to wear it. I've never really thought about how terrible this product really is.
For reference, I'm on the swim team. This stuff sucks in the water. After about half an hour in the water, people tell me that my mascara is all over my eyes and running down my face. And as soon as I apply one coat, it clumps terribly, making me look like I have 4 lashes, and it smudges easily.
The only things that this mascara has going for it is that it is very dark black, which I like. It also does seem to volumize a LITTLE bit, but not that much.
For the price, you can find a LOT better. continued >>
I received this as a gift. It’s an OK mascara, it defines and darkens the lashes, but does nothing for length. I have problems applying it because it tends to clump, which wouldn’t normally bother me so much if I could brush them out, but that seems to be hard to do with this mascara. It sometimes smudges in my brow bone when I first apply, which doesn’t happen with all mascara, but once it dries it doesn’t run or smudge. The tube is pretty and classy looking, but I would agree with other reviews that the spooly may be a big part of the problem. I will likely use it up, but not repurchase. I just wasn’t impressed.
I've tried high end (Lancome, Fiberwig, Bad Gal Lash) and some of the better drug store brands and I keep coming back to this. I am not a consultant but I can get this at a deep discount from my consultant since she is just a personal use consultant. My latest comparison was with Fiberwig which I put on one eye and the MK on the other eye and I swear I couldn't tell the difference between the two! I don't even want to like Mary Kay products, but it seems when I go back to them I'm always pleasantly surprised!
This "ultimate" mascara tends to smudge and be clumpy because everytime I pull the wand out, there's a LOT of product on it. Other than that I really like how volumizing it makes my lashes look. Probably will not repurchase though.
The mascara is great, it's the brush that sucks. It picks up way too much product so it's pretty easy to get clumps. I use disposable mascara wands and this gives me long, full and dark lashes. Doesn't smudge too badly over the course of the day and doesn't sting my eyes.
Clumpy for me. it was very volumizing but too clumpy.
Eh, it was okay. I was a HUGE fan of the Endless Performance mascara and have been scarred since they discontinued it. I loved how the curved brush physically separated my lashes and it didn't flake....at all. Some people didn't like it, but I loved how the stuff came off. In their development of the Ultimate mascara, Mary Kay didn't retain what I loved about their former product. It seem to go on more gloppy even though their goal was to apply the perfect amount on the first swipe. I had to really work to separate my lashes. I probably won't be buying again unless Sephora is not an option.
