I love this foundation!
I described my t-zone oiliness problems to a saleswoman at Sephora, and she put my old product on one half of my face (Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Mositurizer) and this product in #118 on the other half. Then, she used the Make Up For Ever HD Powder (a little is all I need) on my entire face. I did some shopping at an outdoor mall in the 100+ degree weather for a couple hours, went home and did my regular thing. At 5 pm I looked at my face and it was not oily. The Laura Mercier side was a little discolored looking. The Make Up For Ever side had no noticeable color change and evened out my skin nicely.
Only draw backs...the packaging looks tacky to me. It is sturdy, but the design is boring. Looks like something I would find at Target for $10 or less. Also, no sunscreen, but I apply Neutrogena Dry Touch w/Helioplex before applying the foundation. At least I know I am getting a higher SPF that way, so nevermind that drawback. :)
After a week of use so far, I still absolutely love this product combined with the HD Powder.
I wish I hated this product just because its a little pricer than other foundations. But I fell head over heals for this one!
I usually never use liquid foundations just because I feel like it's caked on or chalk like on my face. But this one went on great, gave me great coverage, and did not look caked on!
love love love this product!
first off, i am on the verge of being considered "mature..." my skin is over 40, but not yet 50. so, i thought this would be a nice product to try. see if i can fool that lens!
i bought a bunch of this brand online and lucked out with the right color. i have fair skin, and don't really need much coverage, to be honest. i also bought the elixir, primer, concealer and powder.
i think the most important thing for any makeup is prep. your skin should be exfoliated, smooth and moisturized. otherwise, any color you apply is going to show roughness.
i use moisturizer and the primer and then apply the makeup base. i put a light dusting of powder to set. it looks wonderful. my skin looks natural and even toned. ppl think i'm hardly wearing any makeup, if any. i think this stuff is really good for normal or combo skin, esp mature skin. it hasn't irritated my skin at all, and is really durable. i live in a tropical climate, and it stays put really well, considering. so far, i'm very happy with it.
I have the lightest shade in this (115, I think?) and it's a good match shadewise. While it does give nice coverage without looking too heavy, I do have complaints about it:
1) It seems to adhere to any bit of flakiness in the skin and accentuate it-which isn't nice
2) After about three days of wearing it I began to break out and had to switch to mineral makeup, after which my skin cleared up immediately. Am now wearing it on special occasions only and not a few days in a row to prevent spots
Personally I just don't think it justifies the cost. I paid Ä36 for it and to be honest a lot of my cheaper foundations (No7, Maybelline, etc) work just as well without causing me to break out.
So let's start with the basics when it comes to foundation. In order to truly be able to review a product in all its aspects, you must find a correct match. I was initially matched as a 140 which seemed too light. Then a 153 (which I bought) and was too orange. Needless to say I was turned off by this stuff until I saw somewhere that girls with similar skintones to mine were watched as shade 128. DING DING DING! We have a winner!
Having tried numerous drugstore AND higher end brand foundations, I had almost given up on finding a perfect skin tone match - that is until I found this stuff. The first pro is that it matches and blends seamlessly to my skin. It offers a medium-full coverage that doesn't feel heavy or cakey on my skin (this says a lot since I usually just wear MSFN). The foundation does have to be set, I use MSFN and it gives a nice natural finish that lasts throughout the day without having to re-touch. The foundation also photographs terrifically and doesn't give off a white cast.
This has definitely become an HG product, and if you can find the perfect match - I say go for it!
I love this makeup. It is great for pictures and offers a beautiful glow.
For reference: NC40 (golden undertones), sensitive, normal/combo oily. My HG foundations are NARS sheer glow, MAC face and body, MUFE face and body.
MUFE HD Foundation comes in a 30ml pump bottle, available in 25 shades, is oil-free, water based, and claims to give a natural look yet also provide undetectable coverage at the same time. It also contains ingredients to moisturise the skin and leave you looking radiant.
My experience with this foundation has been pretty good. First off, I got a pretty good colour match (153). It is designed for medium skinned yellow toned ladies and I think it would be suitable for those in the NC40-44 range. I am golden undertoned, but MUFE HD does not provide a shade dark enough with golden tones, so I opted for yellow. It suits me totally fine; blends in with my neck, doesn't make me look jaundiced. I'm sure everyone will be able to find a good colour match because they have so many shades with so many undertones (pink/beige/olive/yellow...)
I do like the packaging - the pump dispenser pumps the exact amount that I need to cover my face. Some reviews have said this foundation looks "cakey/heavy". All I can say is; if it gives you that effect, you either A) Haven't moisturised well enough or B) Are using way too much. HD makeup is supposed to be applied lightly, and if you want to build up, you are supposed to do so in thin layers. That is the #1 rule for ANY HD foundation - build it up, don't cake it on! The best application is to use an airbrush device, but I'm sure not everyone has one of those, so I either use my fingers or a sponge. The fingers and sponge allow you to put on light layers each time you apply, making it look most natural and allowing you to build up coverage.
The coverage varies; it can be anything from light-medium, and paired with concealer, you can get full. I do not have acne or scarring, so light-medium is what I usually go for. It doesn't cover the small freckles on my nose. I occasionally have some reddness on my cheek area and this covers it perectly. If I have some small blemishes, it covers them well too. If someone were to look at me, you wouldn't be able to tell I was wearing MU. I took pictures and uploaded them on facebook - everyone was commenting "wow your skin looks so good even though you aren't wearing MU!" ...hahahaha. If only they knew ;) Anyway, it makes my skin look glowy but not in a dewy way if that makes sense.
The other good thing about this product is the fact that it blends very easily like butter without the need for applying masses of moisturiser beforehand. You will also be surprised how far a small blob of this will go, but you can actually apply quite a lot of this without it looking as though youíve caked on the slap with a trowel. I never get that tight, weighed down feeling in my skin with this foundation and itís one of those foundations which doesnít make my face feel as though every pore has been blocked with gunge. Your skin can breathe quite happily with it.
Like others have said, the lasting power is not all that. It does not last in warm weather at all. I wore this clubbing and it had melted off within 40 minutes of me getting there, whereas my NARS sheer glow lasts all night clubbing. Also, when I went to visit my parents in Rio de Janeiro (hot hot hot!) it didn't last throughout the day. However, I live in London so the temeperature here is never too humid and this foundation lasts all day ontop of primer, no touch ups required.
I have sensitive skin but this does not irritate or break me out. So what is the main catch about this foundation....well, you canít look like a flawless-skinned supermodel for nothing! A bottle of this heaven-sent wonderslap costs a whopping £27.00! But, before you judge it too harshly, I think it is a very worthwhile investment. At the risk of sounding as though Iím being mean to NARS (Iím not by the way Ė itís just another pricey brand and is helpful for the comparison), their 30ml sheer glow cost me me £27.00 aswell.
Overall I like this foundation but it's not HG because of the lasting power. I actually prefer the MUFE face&body foundation over this...I just wish face&body had the same expanse colour selection HD had! I'm wearing HD in these 2 pics - hopefully you'll be able to see how natural yet flawless the coverage is:
This is my HG foundation (and I have tried MANY, including most of MAC's). When I wear it, women lean across the table and whisper, "Your skin . . . ! Are you wearing foundation or is it naturally that smooth and silky?" I think that about says it all for me. I know others haven't had good experiences, but for me it gives great coverage (then again, I like medium-light coverage), stays put all day, is a great color match, doesn't irritate my oily, acne-prone skin, and is neither too matte nor too dewy. Yay, MUFE!
I have problematic skin. This stuff definitey helps hide imperfections, for sure. It feels a little oily going on, but once it sets, it looks really natural. I have actually learned to love the consistency of it because you really don't have to use much of this product at all. My previous bottle lasted me about 6 months!
Ok the Cons - It doesn't have the best coverage, and isn't the best for layering. Basically I would use this all over my face in a thin layer, and then on my problem area(s) like my cheeks or chin, I would do MUFE Mat Velvet Foundation as the concealer, since I already had it. That actually works perfect for me, but if you don't have both, you might need to get something with more coverage for spotty areas. Otherwise, this foundation sets into your skin really nicely. I bartend, and I actually hear people call me a "natural beauty" and say they love how I dont wear much makeup. OH GOD if they only knew!! haha ;)
Also, I don't like the packaging much because I know theres more in the bottom of that little bottle, and it won't let me have it!!! I bet theres like, another month worth of makeup in that thing but the stupid little straw isn't grabbing it. Guess it's time to get more!
This is the best foundation I've used so far! Mac make my nose oily and Estee Lauder was too heavy. This is just perfect! It's light and blends so smoothly. Medium coverage and gives me a nice airbrushed look. Not heavy at all and my skin can breathe! Lasts all day! Love it!!!
