Love the sheen and the colour match... hate the fact that it brings out any and all imperfections!
Ugggh so wanted to like this. I like the idea of a foundation being HD/full coverage but this was way to cakey for my skin. It looked like I was wearing a mask. The match was dead on (153)Honey and I'm NC40 skintone. I even tried using my MAC 187 to soften this but I found that this formula was too powdery! I like a dewy/satin finish and this was similar to MAC studio fix! Yuck! I paid 42 bucks for this! I did like the packaging. The pump was really nice, I just wish it wasn't so matte.
I am currently using 123, which is an absolutely perfect colour match to my skin. I find I only need to use it on spots, instead of the entire face. It is a bit more sheer than I would like it to be, so I do have to build it up, which might account to the fact that I do find it lasts longer than other foundations. It has been a hot summer in Toronto, and I find that it does not melt as others have reported. The one thing I truly like about this foundation is that the colour remains true, unlike other foundations like Merle Norman's Luxiva, which tends to turn orange as the day progresses, or Bobbi Brown's, which tends to transfer quite a bit (and I love Bobbi Brown).
I use the HD powder to set the make up. I am really liking it but as I have called other foundations HG before, I will hold off on judgement, but it matches Bobbi Brow's( 4 Natural) MAC NC30/NC35, and seems to outlast the mineral make up foundations. The only minus I would give this is the fact the price, given the amount of product. Will do an update later to see if it is just a crush or if this is the real thing.
Update: So I am down to my bottom of the bottle, and I bought another one. Looking at my original post, it has been almost one year since I purchased the first bottle, so expensive as it is, it lasts a long time. I actually get compliments on my skin while wearing this, which never happens.
I squirt MUFE on the back of my hand and stipple it with the MAC skunk brush on my cheeks and chin. I then take a kabuki brush and set it with Chanel's Vitalumiere powder. I switch between the HD powder and Chanel's VitaLumiere Eclat, which I found just so so on it's own. Using Vitalumiere gives me more coverage, and while the combo is expensive, combining both seems to give me that flawless look, and given the condition of my skin, that is no easy feat. Keep in mind I had the Vitalumiere just sitting in my makeup kit, otherwise I would have never used these two expensive products at once. Overall, very impressed with MUFE.
I love Make Up For Ever products so it's only natural that I try this too. This is a great foundation to use when taking pictures. It comes off really natural so I recommend it to everyone. I got the shade 117 during the winter (NC 20) and it works pretty well. I have pretty oily skin so I have to use powder and primer underneath so it won't slide off my face, but I do this everyday so it's not a hassle for me. They have a wide color range and you're bound to find a match. It's not cheap, but I don't mind. It's a good product and I will continue to buy this product to use on my clients.
This is such a beautiful foundation, but after a couple hours it just melts away. If set it with the hd powder and prep my skin with the primer. Still melts away ): will stick with my mat velvet
A major plus with this foundation is that it comes with a pump and in a variety of shades/colors. I am an NC25 and got matched perfectly to 118. When on, this foundation feels just like second skin which I really love. I've used other foundations that have felt noticeably heavy and MUFE provides similar coverage without anything weighing you down. I get a semi-matte finish, natural-looking finish and to set, I just apply some MUFE HD microfinishing powder. The foundation is buildable, but I typically do one pump for my entire face and then apply a little more on my problem areas afterwards.I personally prefer to apply it with my hands first, then use a buffer brush to smooth out any lines and blend it out evenly. I find that the warmth of your hands makes the foundation more blendable and easier to work with. I highly recommend this! It's not exactly HG for me, but it's a keeper in my collection for sure!
The color match works well for my neutral olive skintone, i'm 128. But this foundation makes me incredibly oily as the day goes on. After only an hour of wearing this my foundation looked like a disgusting oil slick. Even my boyfriend commented on how oily it looked. This also broke me out in cystic acne! And i had to go back to the dermatologist. And he told me I had to wear a non comedigenic foundation- that's were EL made it's entrance.
There are definitely way better foundations out there for the price. I could see this foundation working well on dry skin types. It's also good for people who have a hard time finding a color match. But the oily and acne prone beware.
My sister in law and myself went to sephora yesterday to get bronzer and blush so the lady at sephora try this makeup on my sister in law in no 153 and it look so natural and perfect match in just one pump. She also matches me with 3 colors and i was perfect match with no 118. next month is my birthday I will go back and purchase this foundation for myself(present from sephora). My sister in law also want to get one also same time with me.
Nc40=combo, oily. this isn't good foundation for oily skin, it separates and oxidizes. 140 mixed with 153 was good enough in color, but my face was so greasy it wasn't worth trying to them both. really bad foundation unless you find an exact match and you have super dry skin.
I love this foundation!
I described my t-zone oiliness problems to a saleswoman at Sephora, and she put my old product on one half of my face (Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Mositurizer) and this product in #118 on the other half. Then, she used the Make Up For Ever HD Powder (a little is all I need) on my entire face. I did some shopping at an outdoor mall in the 100+ degree weather for a couple hours, went home and did my regular thing. At 5 pm I looked at my face and it was not oily. The Laura Mercier side was a little discolored looking. The Make Up For Ever side had no noticeable color change and evened out my skin nicely.
Only draw backs...the packaging looks tacky to me. It is sturdy, but the design is boring. Looks like something I would find at Target for $10 or less. Also, no sunscreen, but I apply Neutrogena Dry Touch w/Helioplex before applying the foundation. At least I know I am getting a higher SPF that way, so nevermind that drawback. :)
After a week of use so far, I still absolutely love this product combined with the HD Powder.
