I didn't like this product, but I think it was mostly due to the fact that the colour I was given was way too dark for me. I may try I lighter shade at some point, but this made me feel 'aged'
I always wanted an MSFN but was always too chicken to buy one. I came across Femme Couture Mineral Effects Baked Bronzer (mine is in "Beach Girl"), which looked like baby MSFNs. I liked by Femme Couture so much that I couldn't wait to swap for an MSFN. I had swapped for 3 MSFNs in Medium and Medium Plus before I figured out that I didn't like them. Initially, I loved the light coverage, which seemed weightless compared to my usual Studio Fix powder. It took me a whole month to realize that this crap, despite looking matte in the pan, is sparkly. It's not chunks of visible glitter, but sparkles that are totally obvious in broad daylight. I looked like Edward Cullens in "Twilight" when the sun hits my face. I don't care for shimmer on my face, so this is a big no-no for me. Deceptive, deceptive... Although I am too light to use my Femme Couture bronzer all over my face, I like it as a light bronzer/blush.
Before I bought MAC's MSFN, I was using their Studio Fix powder. I have normal skin so I didn't need heavy coverage so I went out and bought their MSFN. I have the shade of NC20 when it comes to face products. MSFNs don't go by those kinds of shades so I was matched for Medium. At first, I thought it would be too dark since I have a light skin tone. I brought it with me to my trip to Florida and now I am back to give my full report on it. First of all, I don't know if this was the product that caused me to gain two pimples but I have been reading that this product clogs pores and many other things so this possibly might not work out for me. But, this product is great for setting a tinted moisturizer or a foundation. It is also good to wear alone. This product gives a very lightweight coverage, perfect for the summertime. The packaging is simple and compact. It is quite expensive, for which I spent $27 on this product. I still need to experience this product more to decide if this is breaking me out or not. But for now, I say yes.
Was matched wrong to this in the past so I sold it off... but quickly realized after selling it that I really liked the product. Went back and bought the correct shade. I love this product. It gives me a light coverage over the redness in my skin without making me look like im wearing foundation of any kind. It's soft, works well and doesn't irritate my skin. Would definitely repurchase this again and again.
Had this one for 3 years, didn't expect it to last that long but I rarely reach for this. I'm an NC25 (NC30/35 in summer) so this is light for my summer time makeup. So this is suppose to give a natural skin finish. I guess I don't like natural skin finsh? I'm not impressed. I use it after cream or liquid foundation with a brush, sheer coverage not even medium coverage and not buildable in my opinion. I love MAC Studio Fix and I normally use that. The MAC makeup artist said so many amazing things about this, that it would control oil, it didn't do that much for me in terms of oil control. I still get an oil T-zone in 3hours or less. I suppose she was right in that it is more natural than most powders but she said it would even out my skintone.....okay it does even out a little but if I can see blemishes & scars then who cares about even skin tone? I made it clear I need medium to full coverage. But she assured me it would cover well & said it would minimize pores etc. Meh, didn't do that for me at all. I was going to get just a pressed powder but she convinced me that Mineralize is the best thing since sliced bread. It is sheer and goes on easily with a fluffy brush. But I love full coverage with matte finish and when I use MAC sculpt it doesn't cover every scar or blemish. Powder is super loose, tons of fall out. I have hit pan on this but it's taken ages. Not sure if I should throw it away or not, I normally use powders and foundations up within a year if not sooner. I suppose it's not cakey and my skin does breath nicely. Packaging is okay, kinda too big and clunky. The top is see through and I hate that. I want a mirrior with my powders so I can touch up fast. It only gets two lippies from me.
not sure if this is the right place to write this. But I like this a lot. I have mineralize skin finish in Light, which I use as highlighter, and in Medium Dark, which I use as a bronzer. The Medium dark is perfect bronze shade for my pretty light Asian skin. I also like the packaging, it's nothing special but very sturdy!
Overall, I've loved this stuff for a little over two years..it cuts oil, and sets any foundation perfectly. The price is a little steep, but I've bought most of my MSFs at the CCO, so they've been a bit cheaper. Although, if I had to, I would pay full price. The packaging is so-so, nothing spectacular. It appears flimsy, but is actually quite sturdy. I have repurchased a few times, and I will continue to!
I love this powder so much. It really sets your foundation and makes your skin look flawless. It stays on for a long time and is matt so there is no shimmer.
I wanted this powder to work for so bad..as in not break me out! Because quite frankly, I love love love the coverage and the finish on my skin. However, the ingredients in this powder is quite awful. It made me breakout into horrible cystic acne. Here's my mini breakdown of the not so good ingredients -
1. talc, dimethicone - clogs pores
2. lauroyl lysine - made from coconut oil - could clog pores and increase the potential for allergic reactions/breakouts!
4. BHT - carcinogenic preservative, may cause irritation for some
5. bismuth oxychloride - also found in Bare Minerals, and will be an irritant for some
6. carmine - this is actually derived from ground up bodies of a female insect that feeds on cacti - and will be an allergen to those who have sensitive skin.
And for the price, at $27 per compact, it's pretty pricey to be putting all of this on your face. Nonetheless the color and coverage it provided was to my heart's desire - just so sad that it made me break out so bad! I would buy this in a heartbeat if MAC somehow reformulates a more natural/organic version of this powder!
A review from a 20 year pro artist. Yes I love this product, its extremely versatile when used with different brushes, its light sheer, nothing like standard nasty powders which are heavy, cake and ageing, without a doubt my favourite mac powder. I have every shade in my kit and use the darker shades for bronzer and contouring. I sometimes mix and match to get the correct skin tones, they last forever. There are not too many mineral products I like so far, but Mac are once again innovative in this field. Highly recommended
