This was the only product that made any improvements in my skin as a teenager (and I tried ALL the drugstore brands back then!). I have thick, oily, difficult to exfoliate skin, so this was a Godsend, the ONLY cleanser that could clean my face without irritating it or breaking me out. Nowadays, I have the Clarisonic and chemical peels for exfoliating, but I alwas have this scrub around and use it once in a while. It just works.
A few of my friends swear by this, so I decided to give it a go, mainly in hope that it'd help with the blackheads on my nose (I do use salicylic acid stuffs as well, but hey, whatever help I can get!).
Ladies! (and gentlemen) Please, please, please do not put this stuff on your face! The granules in this are waaay too big for the delicate skin on your face, and while, yes it will exfoliate, it will do it in a damaging way.
I ended up using this on my arms, where I sometimes get "chicken skin", and it's fine for that, but I wouldn't purchase it for that use only - I'd rather use my regular body scrub, much more cost effective. It could be fine for back acne as well I reckon, but just keep this off your faces.
I use St Ives apricot scrub every 2-3 days a week, to exfoliate my skin. It works well on my skin, exfoliate the dead skins. So when I apply my other product it can absorb better on my skin.
Love the smells and the price is cheap can last for few months.
Happy to repurchase this!
I got a sample of this not long ago and read the reviews on here first.
I do agree that it may be too harsh for the face if somebody doesn't know how to use a course scrub properly. However, I like it as a body scrub! The smell reminds me of something from my childhood so it's a rather nice thing to use during a shower, for me at least. :)
I'm still on the fence if I'd actually buy it again... It smells nice but the fragrance is pretty high on the toxic scale (A level 8) and regardless of it saying it doesn't have sulfates it actually does. Etc... I try really hard to avoid stuff like that.
Absolutely LOVE this!! The smell is great, I use it in the shower morning and night! It really helps with the texture of my skin as I often get little bumps on my nose and forehead. My skin is so much softer and smoother, and it literally GLOWS!
The cons are that it doesn't really help with blackheads so I use pore strips and toner for that. Also, whatever you do NEVER get this product in your eye. It hurts like hell! I got a nasty eye infection, because one of the abrasive beads scratched my eye and the scratch got infected. NOT NICE!! Also, it is rather pricey at my local grocery store, almost $10 per bottle, but its well worth it!
I would highly recommend this scrub to anyone! :)
i don't get it-i hear from practically everyone that this is awful for your skin and will make it worse. but i've been using it for years, and on my skin it works really well-keeps me fresh and glowing and safe from breakouts since the dead skin cells can't build up.
it does dry my skin out a little but i just use a good moisturizer. and i like that i can use it all over my body, too.
maybe i'm just exfoliating more gently than other people?
Other people have said it, and I will too: the granules in this scrub are too big and will cause microtears and damage over time. When it comes to exfoliating, a scrub with tiny granules, used gently, will be much better. I do not recommend this one. I would suggest Queen Helene's Oatmeal and Honey scrub, or plain white sugar, which I hear is a good scrub, although I have not tried it myself.
Love it. Been buying it for years and years. Only now I discovered the Blemish control one (and actually had the cajones to buy it because of the reviews) and now I have a new love. :)
Yes, it's cheap and scrubby and all natural....but the texture is so bizarre. I've purchased this several times hoping I would start to like it (it's so cheap, you know), but it just doesn't work for me. It didn't cleanse my skin very effectively; it left my face feeling dirty, but scratched all over; the consistency felt uncomfortable on my face (it gave me the creepy-crawlies)...and to top it all off, I had major breakouts while using this product. The grains are just too greasy and too close together for me. With my Burt's Bees cleanser/scrub, my face looks soft, smooth, and glowing. With the St. Ives scrub, my face looked irritated, broken out, and every little bump or blackhead stood out like a sore thumb. So disappointing for a St. Ives product :( I gave this product 3 lippies because it would be awesome as a body scrub or manicure/pedicure scrub.
