i use this as body scrub only and while i love this product, i had a hard time with it at first. as with most lush products, the packaging leaves something to be desired(read: terrible). when my little barrel of ocean salt arrived, it was sealed shut. the salt had gunked up into the tops' ridges and practically glued it shut. after several days without luck, i finally drilled some holes in the top so i could shake it out and use it. once half gone, the top finally came off and i used it more freely. this brought up another annoying point: the mix separates right away. a huge amount of salt on the bottom and the blue soap on top. so you have to constantly shake it like crazy or stir it with your hands. turns out that drilling holes in the top made the product better for me. i used less, didn't have to mix it by hand and shaking it out seemed to give me a perfect mix of salt and soap. and it smells so GOOD! it can be drying though so watch for that. for me dry = clean but tight, feeling like i wanted lotion as soon as i was dry.
I used this product last year, but when the product finished I just bought other scrubs. For the past few weeks my skin had gotten super flakey and I had some tiny bumps along my jawline. Not sure what had caused my skin to go crazy like that... Whether it was stress, makeup, or I had an allergic reaction to something. I went to my local Lush store and picked up this scrub again hoping it would do the trick. I have been using it every single day for the past week and I already see a difference. The bums are completely gone, no more flakey skin. I haven't done anything different other than just using this scrub. I also feel like it has given me a glow. It's a great product.
My face had a luminous glow the first time I used Ocean Salt, so I used it again. And again. And again. I am still in my teens but my face felt dry and looked lackluster after four days of use. I was only using a pea-sized amount and being very gentle, but still it was so abrasive and salty it stripped my skin of the necessary moisture. I still think this is a good product, but it certainly shouldn't be used as a daily face wash / scrub if you have normal, sensitive or dry skin. I do not have any acne, fine lines or other issues, and my pores are tiny, so for me this product was just useful in brightening my skin temporarily. It might have been more beneficial if I had more issues. I now am using it just once a week to exfoliate. I still prefer the effects of swimming in the ocean or in my saline pool has on my face, but Ocean Salt is a good substitue during the school year.
A tiny dab will do, and since I'm just using it once a week it should last me for several months. I would probably buy this again, but it's not a product I'm jumping up and down and doing backflips for.
This stuff has finally saved my skin. I scrub before bed and moisturize, and wake up in the morning with finer lines and less acne.
I have never met a product I have liked as much as this!! Wish it was a bit cheaper (appears in the UK it is substantially less expensive- what is up with that?)

I recently purchased the large size of this product (expires in one year) after using a sample size. I have acne prone skin and this is why I bought this product and a tip:
I shower and let the steam open up my cleansed pores. Then I use a quarter size amount of Ocean Salt and VERY GENTLY in light circular motions rubbed it around on my face, avoiding the eye area. The pimples (in various stages, there were about 3 or 4) started to BURN. I let it sit on my face for a few seconds and then rinsed with slightly warm water. I took a look in the mirror (worried lol) and all around the pimples the skin was red - not severely, but noticeably. After my shower I patted my face dry with a clean towel and used alcohol free toner with a facial cotton. (I suggest Lush's Tea Tree Water). Put my eye serum around my eyes (never let your eye area dry out!). Then I took a cotton q-tip and put some of Jason's 100% Organic Tea Tree Oil on one side and applied it to just the pimples I had, to the point where it was not dripping but it was wet with tea tree oil. Then I went and watched a tv show. After the show I returned to see the redness was gone AND along with them the pimples! One which was older was ready to extract and the others just went away! I could not believe it! I have tried everything - homeopathic pills, salycilic acid toners and treatments, benzoil peroxide gels, tea tree oil on it's own, many clay masks etc. I can't say for sure that this will work for you but in my opinion this treatment is a great find.
I have since used the Ocean Salt on it's own and it was not as amazing, but still a good product. Remember to be very gentle when rubbing it around! This can tear your skin! Try my treatment routine, so far I am loving it!
UPDATE: I wanted to inform you that I can use this product a max of 2 to 3 times weekly. More than that over exfoliates.
Let me start out by saying, I have extremely acne prone, blackhead-y, clogged up skin on the oily side. Oh, and huge pores. My skin isn't sensitive at all.
I've tried out LUSH skincare in the past - did not work for me. At all. Really wanted it to, but everything ended up breaking me out.
Enter Ocean Salt. Now, I should say that I never thought I'd use this. I felt it was truly unhealthy to rub salt on one's face, and yes, what about the microscopic tears in your skin being formed as a result? In fact, I just didn't support exfoliation at all. I felt that washing one's face was exfoliation enough. However, for my face, it wasn't. My pores were seriously clogged, and exfoliation was probably what it was missing (my face needed something stronger and deeper than just daily cleansing).
I had tried exfoliating in the past, and the results weren't good. I used LUSH's Dark Angels, and the charcoal granules got stuck in my large pores.. yeah.. not good. This resulted in congestion of my pores and eventually, a break out. However, with Ocean Salt, since the exfoliating granules are salt pieces, they wash right off and have no way to lodge into pores since they melt with water.
The avacado butter and coconut oil really sink into your skin and make it even softer than your face already is from the exfoliation. However, I didn't buy this to make my face soft. I bought it to help my skin's overall complexion and help with my break outs - and it has. This stuff kind of pulverizes everything off your face. The blackheads begin to diminish, and after a few uses, are barely noticeable. Pores shrink because there is a natural astringent in Ocean Salt. The best part for me is the effect on acne; yes, if you have open acne wounds or an active pimple, this will burn. It has happened to me many times. This is because salt is a natural antiseptic, and I love the effect this has, because it dries up and diminishes my pimples after just one use because it gets rid of all the bacteria. It rinses clean and soft, but I definitely have to moisturize afterwards. Not because it leaves my face dry, but to kind of calm my face down after it all. It's generally good to moisturize anyway.
By the way, this stuff smells, looks, and feels amazing. I always grab it and just open it to sniff it.. smells absolutely tropical. Awesome blue-green color too!
I use this pretty much nightly. Sometimes I forget or skip a night, but I aim for nightly. I don't recommend that everyone does this. Usually, people use it once or a few times a week. It's just that my face is tough and can handle it nightly.
A word to the wise: Remember people, when you're using it, push it lovingly around your face - not rigorously or angrily! You are almost certain to have irritation/a bad experience if you really try to work it in. The salt granules do half the job for you by just being there, so be gentle!
Finally, when it comes to face products, ALWAYS get a sample first.
Update: I firmly believe this is what cured my acne. Okay, cure might be a strong word, but I don't break out much at all anymore! Sure, I get the occasional hormonal pimple, but that's all. Amazing.

Got this at my local LUSH store as a sample because I heard so many nice things about Ocean Salt. For me, I noticed that I broke out bad from this. Since it has multi-uses, I used it on my face as an exfoliant. I mixed it with AOBS to give it some substance. Not sure but I think it really purged my face, because I ended up w/alot of new breakouts the very next day. As far as using it on dry skin like hands, elbows and knees, I will recommend because it did make my skin very soft. Not sure if I would purchase
I put off buying this product for a long time because it is so expensize. They do offer two sizes, the bigger one giving you more bang for your buck. I, however, will not indulge in the larger amount until I try it out for myself. The first time I went to Lush, the associates all bombarded me(which annoys me everytime I go in that store) to try the hand treatment they offered. I fell in love. I eventually went back to purchase two of the products used in their suggested hand treatment: the Ocean Salt, and Lemony Flutter. I bought the smaller Ocean Salt for $20, which is pricey. However, it is amazing! I love it. I have NOT tried it on my face or other body areas, for which it is intended for, because I have picky about what goes on my skin. I use it strictly as a hand exfoliator/moisturizer. The smell is fresh and clean, and not overwhelming like many of Lush's products. My hands are VERY soft after I use this product. Since it gives my hands such great results, I am thinking I will apply it to my legs in the shower, right before I shave.
All in all, I do highly recommend this product as long as you don't mind putting out a couple extra bucks for it. Also, it expires about a year you buy it, so be mindful. And don't forget to mix the entire tub before using it. The ocean salt is layered at the top. They do give you a popsicle stick to mix it.
This is, sadly, a one star product for me. I have sensitive, oily skin, and this is the product that everyone at LUSH recommends for me, but it just does not work. It leaves my skin dehydrated and uncomfortable with some kind of sticky residue. I would not recommend this for very sensitive skin. I prefer Rub Rub Rub from LUSH instead.
Ocean Salt is a fantastic body scrub! I know that most people use it as a face scrub but I broke out when I used it on my face. However, I decided that I should still try it as a body exfoliator and to my surprise, it works wonders. I adore the fresh scent and love how easy it is to apply. I would recommend to get into the shower to dampen your skin and turn off the water then rub ocean salt all over your body. You will feel so clean and invigorated afterwards :)
