I used this product for a couple years, about 2-3 years ago. I happened to like the smell, which I admit is a bit odd.
This was an effective cleanser for my acne prone skin that I had under control with Duac and Retin-A Micro at the time.
The soap itself is just a bar of soap. There are gritty bits within the soap. I never experienced any adverse reaction to the soap and had the ingredients okayed by my esthetician at the time.
I might return to this soap in the future. Currently I am not using any Lush products.

I bought a chunck of Coal face yesterday, and I asked for a 100g block and the sales assitant cut a 96g block... impressive estimation skills... Anyway the cleanser is really easy to use and left my face really clean. After one wash I could immediately see that my face was brighter and glowing. The one downfall is storing it... I find that if I leave a lush soap or shampoo bar to dry its sticks to whatever it's sitting on which is really annoying and you start to waste product when taking it off. So what I do is wet my hands and rub the top of the bar then rub my face, that way I don't get too much product which will dry out my skin and it's a lot less messy. I payed $AU 14.64 which is expensive for such a small bar, but I think it will last a very long time. Oh and they bar shimmers in the light! So Pretty!

I have an awfully oily and shiny face, all the time, even when I am sleeping. I discovered this when I was browsing through my Lush store and haven't looked back since.
It costed me approximately AUS$13 for an 88gram block, sounds expensive but it will last me at least 12 months so far as pricing goes it's FANTASTIC.
I use it twice a day with visible results, the coal in it literally sucked up all my excess oil leaving my skin clean and refreshed.
The smell itself isn't great but that can be easily ignored since it's so good in all the other areas.
And no, it does not remove makeup since it is not made for that purpose.

I asked if there was a cleanser for oily (t-zone) skin and was given a sample of this soap. It smelled so bad among my other LUSH goodies but I went ahead and gave it a try....wow!! I used it in the a.m., moisturized and did my makeup= oil-free t-zone!!! I've used it in the p.m. but you definitely have to follow up with a moisturizer because it does leave your skin taut! I will definitely be repurchasing this little stinky, black soap.

I love this clenser! I discovered it about a year ago and haven't looked back since. Apprehensive at first at using a bar soap on my face, I tried it out and was immediately in love with the way my skin felt after rinsing. It makes your skin squeeky clean and I noticed oil being controlled much better during extended use. Oh and the best part? My skin cleared up so much after using it for a few weeks. My skin is much more even and I rarely break out anymore. My only FYI...make sure you use a moistuizer, Coalface does tend to be drying.

A great facial soap! Great for my oily skin, it really managed to even out my skin tone, but I need a good moisturizer after.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!! I have oily acne prone skin! And this baby has made my skin like silk. I use it daily, its great on my blemishes. I use to break out like 10-15 blemishes daily. This has turned it into one or two tiny blemishes that are harmles.. LOVEEEE I WANT TO FILL MY BATHROOM WITH THIS PRODUCT!! Has done an amazing job on my almost gone blackheads and its only been 3 weeks

LOVE LOVE LOVE this product! It leaves my skin silky smooth and feeling very refreshed, it's also helped the tone!!! I gave the packaging 1 because there is no packaging... other than the paper they wrap it in! I keep mine in an empty, clean margarine container!!!

This facewash is good for my oily skin. It lathers up well and swills off easily, leaving my face feeling fresh and clean. I have had hardly any spots since using this product.

I recommend buying some sort of container for it though, as it can lose its scent and go crusty and rather unpleasant-looking if constantly exposed to a wet and humid environment. It still does its job, but it looks disgusting.

My only complaint about this product is that there can be sharp bits of charcoal in it that you can accidentally scratch your face with (just a little pointy bit that can cause minor pain, not something that will cut your face open). Other than that, it's a great face wash and works well for me. continued >>

this is my nighttime cleanser. works great and does an awesome job removing all my makeup. i do follow up with the tea tree toner just to be sure i've gotten my face totally clean. i must say, after i use this and then the toner...there is barely anything on the cotton ball...so that tells me this does a great job cleansing my skin. love, love, love it!!! : )
