Update: I've since purchased the waterproof version, absolutely NO flaking even if worn overnight! HOWEVER, that tube dried out quite quickly. Overall it's unlikely I will repurchase either version due to issues with the brush, flaking, and formula drying out. I do still recommend it though as it looks great.

Claims - True or False?
1) Bold lashes: False
2) Non-bulky: True
3) Clump-free: True
4) Creates volume: Moderately true
5) Brush catches, coats, declumps: Mostly true

Packaging:
Simple yet funky and colourful packaging, a bright pink and teal colour combination. The mascara wand is not placed in the tube when purchasing and instead there is a twist-off "cap." I'm not sure the purpose of this - are you supposed to keep the wand out of the mascara tube and reseal it with the cap each time, or is the cap meant to be used when the wand is out of the mascara to lessen drying out of the product? If the latter is true then I would say that the idea is good but in reality not an ideal practice. The wand uses plastic bristles which are well spaced out but not too much or too little in number, while the shape is a longer and fatter oval. The tube has a type of suction opening which prevents excess mascara from being picked up on the wand (although the tip can often pick up a bit of excess, not a big deal to flick off). Feels comfortable in my hands when using. The wand has a flexible joint to it, which seems to only be beneficial in scraping off product from the side of the tube.

Formula:
On the wetter side of the spectrum for mascaras, but not overly so in my opinion. The formula is not overly glossy and dries to a nice matte finish, with a very rich colour pay-off (shade Very Black). It seems to have a thinner/slicker consistency and lacks the tackiness that many volumizing mascaras can have. Washes off very easily in water - when showering before removing mascara the majority of it will be removed but it will smudge onto my lower eye area.

Performance:
My lashes are naturally on the thicker side, some natural curl, and medium to long in length with the tips being quite light. I really like the look this mascara gives me but it's definitely not a perfect product. I would not call it a volumizing mascara, instead it provides me with separated length and moderate added volume. Compared to other volumizing mascaras I have used this is the only one that has truly given me fantastic length, something I did not realize I wanted until I tried this mascara. While it provides less noticeable volume it also doesn't leave the lashes pieced together, so while it's more of a natural look I feel like ultimately it provides a much more natural and appealing volume, especially doubled with the length. It holds my curl well but doesn't add any (not something I look for in mascaras). It dries fairly quickly on my lashes and doesn't feel too heavy or crunchy. There are, however, concerns (some of which may be due to my inexperience with this type of brush, as I've always used traditional brushes). First, the brush is so large that it's easy to poke my eyes and get mascara onto the skin. Second, it I don't apply it a certain way I will not get the desired separated length and added volume that I desire. I find that the best way to apply it is to do one coat (by this I mean applying mascara to one eye until fully coated without going back into the tube) and roll and sweep it up the lashes up to the tips, and THEN target the roots and zig-zag for added volume. If I reverse this I will get lashes that group together and there will be areas near the tips/inner lashes that aren't actually coated. Third, it seems like there is a bit of a tendency for it to flake. Nothing too serious if I apply the mascara properly (e.g. going back into the tube to add more coats = more flaking, waiting for mascara to dry completely and then applying more = more flaking) but it can be a tad annoying. Flaking has been inconsistent so I can't tell if it is something to do with the formula or application - I will update if I notice any patterns. 4) It comes off easily with water, meaning easily with tears. I don't tend to cry or get watery eyes a lot but this is definitely something to watch out for.

Bang for your Buck:
Ranges between $8-10CAD at drug stores, so it's on the pricier end of drug-store mascaras/cosmetics. If I can I tend to only replace mascaras every 4-6 months so this price-point isn't necessarily steep.

Final Consensus:
I will keep playing with this mascara but overall I am pretty happy with the product. It's definitely not perfect and I'm still not quite used to the large (and plastic) brush, but it's a mascara I'd recommend to others and would purchase again when running out. I will most likely try the waterproof version though if I find the flaking to continue or worsen.

Average mascara. I paid almost $9 for this product - not a huge shocker for the Maybelline products. The packaging is hygienic and user friendly, however, I was not impressed with the out come. I am a fan of the dramatic look when it comes to my mascara, and this simply did not satisfy my need! Still a good mascara, however wouldn't purchase again. I'm considering tossing it

This is my favourite mascara, I've repurchased it at least three times (in waterproof) already. What I love about this mascara is the brush, it is able to seperate them nicely just as promised. It slightly smudges a bit, but not complete racoon eyes. Also never had a problem with clumps either! I find the formula dries out kind of fast after a while though.

Have just recovered from an eye infection and this is such a gentle and good mascara! I swear by this mascara! I love the wand and how it really does seperate your lashes. Good mascara reasonably good price, would definately buy again! :) Also the packaging of most of the Maybelline mascaras are quite hygenic since normally when i'm walking around my local drug store i always see people trying on the mascaras even when they aren't testers!!! So i like it how they put it in proper packaging rather than just the mascara just on its own!!!x

I got this mascara in very black. It works very well. It separates my lashes very well and gives good volume. This is a great everyday mascara.

I accidentally bought this without checking it wasn't waterproof, I did find out after spritzing my face with a finishing spray and saw I had panda eyes! Does anyone remember Hey Arnold? Well I looked like Helga's overdramatic sister Olga when she cries and her mascara goes everywhere. WHOOPS.
I love the brush, it really does apply with no clumps and coats each lash one by one. However what I don't like is the fact it makes your eyelashes look like spiders legs :(
I now use this as a base before my Falsies mascara as the two seem to go well together.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a natural looking mascara that gives a little bit of length. Not for girls like me who want to make their already massive eyes look even bigger!

My Favorite Mascara! It Really Captures All My Lashes Even the Inner And Outer Corners. It Just Takes Some Practice. I Have Really Short, Thin, Downward Pointing Eyelashes And This Macara Makes Them Curlier and Bigger. Definetely Would Repurchase
