I have naturally curled lashes that are rather short and sparse. Benefit's "They're Real" really plumps up my eyelashes, adds length and helps my eyes appear a bit larger.
The formula is nice and thick. On the lashes, after it dries it is still malleable (while others with this kind of voluminous action can be stiff and crispy) and it doesn't feel overly heavy.
The brush is on the larger side and is rubber. I normally don't like the rubber wands because they normally don't give me the dramatic lashes I like. The bristles on this wand are densely packed and have rubber spikes on the end of it so that you can get your teeny little lashes (wipe it first though or you may get extra product and clumps!).
The packaging is a bit ostentatious but I like it.
It is a bit of a pain to remove. It will not come off with just my normal face wash (which states it will remove makeup)- I have to use a makeup remover first. Even then, I will sometimes wake up with the remnants of this mascara under my eyes.
Overall, I'll continue to repurchase. I'm not someone who likes the 'natural look' when wearing mascara and this makes my eyes pop without being overly clumpy. Thanks for the great mascara, Benefit!
REVIECED A SAMPLE OF THIS . ** 1 WEEK REVIEW** LOVING IT. I DO THINK ITS SO THICK THAT IT ADDS GREAT LEGNTH MAKES LASHES LOOK AWESOME. IDONT HAVE ALOT OF LASHES BUT YOU CANT TELL WITH THIS. THE PRICE A LITTLE STEEP BUT ITS WORTH IT.THE BRUSH IS REALLY NICE AND IN THE SMALL SIZE THERES ALOT OF PRODUCT SO I CAN IMAGINE HOW MUCH YOU GET WITH THE LARGE SIZE
This produces the most dramatic lashes I have ever gotten with mascara. I usually love big fluffy over-sized brushes and haven't liked the rubbery kind until this. The best part is the little ball at the end of brush that you can use vertically to curl and reach lashes in the outer corner of eye. The reason why it doesn't get 5 liippies is that it isn't waterproof, and I have used waterproof mascaras almost exclusively. Since it isn't...I can only wear this on top lashes as raccoon eyes are guaranteed otherwise. If this came in waterproof formula it would be HG.
In fairness this is a great mascara. Very dramatic but I wouldn't layer it on too thickly as it has a tendency to clump. I must say though that three work friends commented on my lashes the first day I wore this mascara and one colleague even went straight out and bought this mascara. It is the best mascara I have ever bought. The price is less than the Lancôme mascara which I found to be far less dramatic.
I got this in a birthday kit from sephora...I was pretty excited to try it honestly after hearing how wonderful it was. There is one sold every 20 seconds or something like that, etc. etc.
The Wand: This is not the kind of wand that I associate with volume or thick lashes. I particularly don't like the plastic bristle-thingys. I think this kind of wand is used more for lengthening and separation. For my lashes, it did give me length, but it didn't really separate them. Honestly, it gave me spider lashes. If there were more bristles maybe it would do a better job of separating the lashes for me.
The Formula: Is very, very wet and takes a while to dry for me. I also did not like that after it was dry, it flaked throughout the day. (I usually use a waterproof mascara because of this) On the positive side, the formula is very black and stays black after it dries.
Overall I prefer my Maybelline Falsies. I don't think that this mascara is worth the pricetag when you can get a very similar, if not better, mascara for a quarter of the price.
I bought this after hearing a lot of hype about how wonderful it is. My experience was not the same. I know some people really love the spiky ball at the end of the brush but for me, it was just a ball of clumped mascara. The formula felt so sticky on my lashes even after drying and by the end of the day it caused all of my lashes to stick together. It didn't add any length or volume to my lashes. I have several drugstore mascaras in my drawer and they are all better than this stuff.
A relative of mine gave me a travel sized version of the mascara. I heard rave reviews about it on Youtube so I was excited to try it out. It's pretty lengthening and added volume, but I honestly think that the Maybelline The Volume Express mascara does pretty much the same thing for a fraction of the price. I'm not saying that this mascara is bad, because it works well. However, for the price, it's not really worth the hype in my opinion. The Volume Express mascara gives the same volume for about a third of the price.
I got a sample of this product for my Sephora Birthday gift. I like the brush and how it has the spiky ball at the end to get all the tiny lashes. I think that when I curl my lashes and use this mascara my lashes are quite natural looking. Its more of a lengthening mascara than a volumizing one.
Although I like this mascara I don't think the formulation is any better than a drugstore one. I would reuse the brush for other mascaras as I really like the brush.
This product is not worth the asking price.
Makes eyelashes look perfect. If it weren't so pricey, I would use it every day!
This mascara is wonderful, it really makes your eye(lashes) pop, because it adds lots and lots of volume and length. The application is not troublesome at all, but I do find it a little painful if the wand touches my skin. Hence, I usually only start applying the mascara a little farther from the roots as I would have with any other mascara. Having said that, I must reiterate that the length and volume it gives my eyelashes is phenomenal.
Do follow their instruction to first apply is horizontally (wiggle it). Afterwards, 'comb' your eyelashes vertically with the wand to get that extra lift and separate your eyelashes. And mind to let it dry for a while, because this mascara is quite liquid at first.
I have worn this mascara for the last couple weeks, and living in a very humid country, I assure you that most mascara will smudge after a few hours. However, this mascara did not smudge for approx. 8 hours, except if you perspire a lot. In my experience, if you are in a dry/air-conditioned environment, this mascara shall not smudge for hours and hours (except if you cry or vigorously rub your eyes of course).
Taking it off is of medium difficulty. It's not waterproof, so oil based eye makeup remover will do good. One swipe will most likely not get everything off, but you do not need to pull your eyelashes either to clean this mascara.
Overall, I believe this is a pretty good product worth trying.
