I got this in a swap and I must say. I would have never purchased the on my own but was glad to trade for it. I think it's a decent exfoliatir but it did nothing did my oily skin. A lot of people have commented on the inappealing smell. It I didn't mind it so much. It's nothing great but I'd you can get your hands on it in a swap or ad a sample I would say it's worth a shot.

Oh how I wanted to love this! I don't live anywhere close to a Lush store, so I finally broke down and ordered it online. While I knew this product had mixed reviews, I was very anxious to try it. I have combo skin and wanted to use this only on my t-zone, which can get a little oily. When it arrived I practically ran to the bathroom with my coveted black soap. Coal face really didn't do that much. I don't like the smell at all. Plus coal face kind of hurts to wash with. It irritated my skin a little the first time I used it. I will use it a few times a week and hope it does a little more. Right now this is not a repurchase.

When I first saw and smelled this cleanser soap, I did not care for it. Only because the scent was not my ideal scent. But when I read that it was good for problematic and oily skin, I knew I had to try this out. I had got a little bar from the Naked Kit and have been using it ever since. I only use it during the day time and I use LUSH's Herbalism during the evening.

I gave 1 lippie off because coal face tends to dry out your face.

Coalface is my HG cleanser! I tried Fresh Farmacy and my skin went crazy! I haven't had horrible acne like that in years! I switched to coalface and within two days I noticed the blemishes drying out and fading away. I don't mind the smell at all and I'm sure the $15 chunk I purchased will last a while because it only takes a little bit to really make a difference. I love, love, LOVE coalface.

I have very problematic skin so I've been through loads of different cleansers of different brands, but I've finally found my grail! It's cheap, easy to use, lasts forever and most of all it does a spectacular job at cleaning my oily skin. I wet my face and rub this cleanser directly on the skin, lather it up with my hands and rinse. It's one of few cleansers that make me feel really clean without drying me out horribly. I helps my acne as well. Oh and the bar shape is great for when you travel!

Edit: I've recently tried some oil based cleansers instead and find them to be kinder to my skin and enable me to use less moisturizer. Coalface is still great for when I've used a lot of makeup, but it is slightly drying.

I've been using coal face for well over three weeks now and although the soap has removed some of my pimples, half are still there. It has faded some of my scars and reduced redness, but apart from that I can't see any real difference. It dried out my skin on my t-section and while using this product I continued to break out, however not as bad as before hand. Really only gets rid of the day's worth of oil and dirt for me and doesn't get rid of those stubborn blackheads and pimples on my face. I also noticed that I have got whiteheads from using coalface, I wouldn't buy it again.

I get this for my husband, who has very oily skin. He uses it every morning and night, it keeps his skin under control and doesn't dry him out at all. One bar lasts a long time, but I've found cutting off slivers is better than putting the whole bar in the dish. LUSH soaps tend to melt quickly. He loves it and I'll get it for him again.

I have extremely over the top oily skin. This soap cleanses well - it cleanses too well imo and that's not always a good thing. It stripped my skin of oil to the point that my skin overcompensated and made it oilier. This irriated my skin and broke me out.

I have a lot of trouble finding facial products that don't irritate me... sensitive, oily, acne-prone skin. Uggh. This was great! It did make me a little too dry if I used it every time I wash my face, but if I had an issue to clear up, this was great. BUT, and I am not associated with the company in any way... I am more in love with Garden of Wisdom's products!!

I'll always have a soft spot for this soap, since it basically saved my skin when I bought it a couple of years ago! Beforehand I'd had quite bad breakouts and very oily skin, and after a 2 week purging period (which wasn't bad, about four absolutely minuscule spots at a time) I only got oily towards the end of the day and had maybe one spot at a time.

After a while though, I realised that the soap was wayyy too drying for my changed needs - it had basically changed my skin type and the over-drying was causing the spots and oily patches (which were actually normal patches, surrounded by very dry skin)! Switched to Ponds and now my skin is absolutely perfect, but if I hadn't used Coal Face for a few months beforehand I'm sure the Ponds would have been much too oily.

So yeah, if my skin ever changed back (God forbid) I'd buy again and advise people with similar problems to give it a go - just don't assume it's a one-step solution!
