I do like this tanning mousse but it's pretty time consuming putting it on. The buffing mitt is useless! I will not ever buy the mitt again, just normal gloves work better. I find that no matter how many coats you put on it will all wash off and have the same golden colour, so don't waste your time with the extra coats. If i do want a more deep tan then I will so another coat the next day. It's a lot of effort for just a light golden tan.
Tried this after hearing good things about it and I got £5 off a 240ml bottle. However it still cost £30 which is quite expensive.
The positives are that it smells nice when put on - like Davidoff Cool Water. You still get the fake tan smell after it develops though.
I followed the instructions exactly but on some parts of me it goes patchy when I shower - on my chest and arms and doesn't come off with exfoliant. The colour is ok but I have found that Vita Liberata tan is a better colour and will puchase that one when I run out of this.
I wanted to like this product. I liked the color after a few applications and it seemed to last on me for usually about a week, but I noticed I had some kind of reaction to it that no other self tanner has ever done.. it would cause extremely dry, itchy patches around my wrists and inside of my forearms that ened up lasting a few weeks... it only seemed to happen on my arms. it did have a stronge frangrance but I am not too sensitive to smells in products.. but because of the reaction I will not be repurchasing this product.
I decided to buy the smallest size to test out this product and I have to say that I've enjoyed the ease of application as well as the colour guide. I am not a beginner by any means to self-tanners, however, I've never (ever), with any self-tanning product, experienced any streakiness or other issues like that - these are caused by application, not by the product. If you have an issue with streaks, that means you did something incorrectly.
Now that that's out of the way, the instant colour guide for the regular tanning mousse is amazing!! I can apply two full-body coats using the mitt, one after the other, and have a perfectly bronzed, DARK bod in around 4 hours. Now, the colour guide is mostly responsible for this as I've found. The colour left-over after showering is still a good colour, but I would say about half of your total colour washes off after showering. This wasn't that shocking to me - light colour guards are too hard to use anyway.
I should mention, I don't find that this product starts to smell like DHA ("tanning scent") until the end of the day (around 5pm onward) if I apply it in the morning (around 6:30am). The scent that it has is kind of like Davidoff's Cool Water and to be honest, it can give me a headache - I prefer the scent of DHA, but I find that the St. Tropez scent fades within a few hours or once I apply clothing. I should also mention that they guarantee it will be dry within 60 seconds, and I'd say that - once it has been thoroughly brushed on with the mitt, it is dry enough to put on clothing within about 60 seconds afterwords (although I still wait a bit longer, I usually do this after blow-drying but before flat-ironing my hair, so I have time to kill anyway).
As far as self-tanning products go, this price-point is on par with tanning salon products (it's available at select Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Canada), but I simply think that next time I will get the Dark formulation. If you are new to this product, get the really small size available of this version, and go from there, whether you'd like to purchase the huge bottle of this regular formula, or the huge bottle of the dark formula, but I'll definitely be purchasing the dark next time.
I like this self tanner but it just wasnt dark enough for me and it only lasted a couple of days. The color is a very natural BEAUTIFUL brown, not orange! But I found myself using just so much product to get the darkness I was trying to achieve! So I went through it pretty quickly. I've purchased it twice, but I'm not sure about a third time.
This product is great. Yes, it is expensive but a large bottle lasts me half of the summer. It is so easy to apply with the glove (definitely use the glove) I no longer get spray tanned so it actually is a huge money saver. There is no smell and the color is fantastic.
I can't believe I spent $46 (including tax) on this!!! I needed a good, realistic tan, in a short amount of time, and based on the reviews, I decided to ditch my Clarins ST and buy the smaller size of this mousse...NOT a good thing!
It just didn't work for me. Here I am, after having used it last night and this morning, with an almost non-existant "tan" - I look very slightly golden, true, but no tan that I could speak of.
After 2 coats!!!
Application - pretty easy, although the mitt did nothing. Last night I used the mitt, and was horrified at how streaky it all looked. The color guide looked so bad, I was sure I was going to be all uneven in the morning - but no, the color was even this morning, probably because it was barely noticeable. After my shower (which removed most of the already barely-there color), I applied again, this time with disposable latex gloves....much better! No more streaks, better results.
Color - like I said, barely any color after 2 coats. Whatever is there, is nice, golden, natural. I am light (NW15) with a slight natural tan, so you can imagine my surprise when this tanner couldn't even turn me as tan as cheapie DS tanners... But as a plus, the hint of golden color is very even, my skin is smooth and looks healthy.
Scent - OMG, bad! I don't know why people say it's a pleasant scent, and that you can't smell the DHA, because on me it reeked! No way I could go out in public wearing this, and I am not sensitive to ST scents, I even love the Jergens scent! Luckily the smell washed out in the shower, together with the color guide!
So on the plus side, the color you get is nice, natural, very even, and nothing rubs off clothing.
On the negative side - the color is very light (if you want to look tan buy something else, this is not for you), the smell is strong, the price is huge...
I will not rebuy, but will finish the tube I have.
My experience with this product was unfortunately a negative one. I had used the Dark formula of St. Tropez mousse and really liked it so I thought I'd give the original Bronzing Mousse a try, too. I tried it for the fist time a few days ago and as I was applying it on my neck, I felt a horrible stinging in one area. I suppose there must have been some irritation there already (though I never felt or saw it before then) because no product could cause a reaction THAT quickly, but it really hurt. By the time I was done applying everything though it had stopped and I pretty much forgot about it. When I woke up the next morning I had an extremely itchy spot on my neck near the area that stung, and there was a cluster of small bumps there. I looked in the mirror and saw that the area that had stung during application was now a large, red, blotchy rash. It stung and burned when I touched it. It looked and felt much like prickly heat rash, only it wasn't raised at all. The next day the skin there felt very dry and rough, almost like a patch of psoriasis or eczema. It almost makes me wonder if it's some kind of chemical burn. It's even drier and rougher feeling today, and it's still red. I've also got some minor itching all over body now, but there aren't any other rashes. I had also used this product on my face, and while it actually did tan it very well and didn't cause any itching, the skin on and around my chin feels slightly rough and bumpy. It doesn't hurt in any way, but it definitely doesn't feel like my normal skin! It's really not fun, and I definitely won't be using this product again. I'll be sending it back to Sephora today.
Having said all that, this product *does* have it's pros, too. The application process was much quicker and easier than it is with the Dark version, and the color guide looks a heck of a lot better, too! The smell is not nearly as strong as it is with the Dark version which I really loved (the Dark is sooo overpowering), yet it masked the DHA smell the next morning just as effectively. One application of this product honestly gave me *just as much color* as the Dark version, which really shocked me. I'm usually one of those people who struggle to get a sunless tanner to show up on me but this one gave me the amount of color I want with just one application. (For reference, I'm naturally very fair as a MAC NC10-15/NARS Gobi, though I do currently, unintentionally have a tiny bit of color from the sun.) I did notice a bit of a color difference between the two, which makes sense. The Dark version is more bronzey/brown/olive, while the original kind of gave me more of that coppery glow that I don't especially love. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't horrible by any means! In indoor lighting it looked rather brown but once I stepped outside it turned that coppery color, but nothing too extreme. So while the color is decent enough, I do prefer the color of the Dark version. Another great thing was that my hands and feet turned out absolutely flawless! I also didn't have any streaking or uneven color anywhere. This is day 3 of wearing this tan and it's still going strong, but honestly at this point I don't even care about the fading. I know I'm not keeping the product, and I'm just hoping that my skin has recovered by the time I need to apply my next tan. I'm also worried that this may have put my skin in hypersensitive mode and that it will start reacting to all sunless tanners now. Definitely not a positive experience for me!
ETA: I know I said I didn't care about fading but I wanted to say that it's now been 6 days since I applied and while it would be time for me to reapply, the fading has been great! Very even, no streaking or splotching. The rash on my neck has finally healed, but the dry/bumpy skin on my face is still there. It got even worse after I posted my review but I can tell it's in the process of healing as well. For those of you who love this product and can use it, I'm very jealous! There really are a lot of nice things about it.
Expensive, but totally worth it. This tanner is my savior all summer. Blend blend blend! Use gloves
I finally decided to splurge and try this out. I applied it with the st. Tropez mitt- it was fairly easy to apply and blend and dried pretty quickly. It didn't smell too bad either. When I washed it off in the morning I had a natural looking tan- not quite as dark as I'd hoped but still nice. It lasted quite a while and faded evenly. The only thing is that you really need to exfoliate with this or it will stick to any dry spots and is very hard to remove!
