I used this a while back, and it didn't work for me. I had really bad acne and it didnt do much really and it was alot of money. To be honest i think theres alot of drugstore products that could probably do the same for a lot less. You just have to look around. I think this is more for people with a little acne so if u have a lot of it u should go to the dermatologist. I know its really really expensive but it'll do so much more for ur skin. Our skin isnt a "One size fits all" if u know what i mean. My skin is alot better now, no thanks to proactiv lol.

These products are to harsh on my skin and worsen my acne :(
The only thing that i like from Proactiv is their Refining Mask

when i used to have acne in highschool, i used this a couple of times on and off. now i rarely breakout so i dont use any acne related products. but i remember having success w/this product back in the day. i would give it a 3.5 if i could. and FYI the generic versions they sell in walmart or CVS worked just as well for me.

People either seem to really love or hate proactiv (mostly hate), but I happen to be one of the few people who find it effective. I had some pretty bad breakouts a few months ago which prompted me to repurchase the 3 step system (I have used proactiv on and off for years.) It really helped to clear up my skin when basically everything I tried was failing. That being said, I do get why the ratings on here are so low. The thing with proactiv, and I think this is true for most acne treatments, is that it is hard on your skin and you need to really pay attention to how your skin is reacting to it and modify your skin care routine accordingly. I mostly just use the cleanser, which I think is great for exfoliating, whenever my skin is in really bad shape or when I can feel an impending breakout. If you feel like it is too drying, or your skin is becoming very sensitive, use it less. It's one of those products that I personally like to have around, but I don't think it is appropriate to use everyday, especially when your skin is fine. I think it is worth trying, though. I think a lot of people are not using this properly or are expecting to have perfect skin overnight. If you are realistic and patient, and this stuff is pretty good.

Hmm, it's helped with my acne a bit, BUT it doesn't prevent all acne or remove it completely from your face. The commercials are entirely too misleading.
First off, when you sign up for Proactiv it sets the automatic billing to happen every 4 weeks. You can change this by logging into your account, but most likely you won't know that it has been set to that, and you will be in for a surprise when you see another charge a month after purchasing this.
I like the step 1 face wash, as it is a good exfoliant and seems to clean well. Could do without the step 2 toner (doesn't seem to do much of anything for me).
The step 3 cream is my favorite because I use it every morning/night underneath a moisturizer.
Without a moisturizer, this will almost guarantee to dry your face out, yes- even in summer. I use some kind of oil and then sometimes another moisturizing cream on top of that.
I will say, the first time I got my hands on Proactiv, it literally IMMEDIATELY seemed to reduce redness and clear up my face a bit, just after the first step. Not sure how/what helped, but it did. My face isn't in as great of shape as it once was, but Proactiv has definitely helped some of my acne. Plus, with my last order they somehow messed up and gave me extremely large bottles, and didn't charge me more!
If your acne's bad enough, go for this, but remember to check your account right away and change the billing.

This product was way to harsh for my skin and just didn't seem worth the cost when it didn't provide results. It made my acne worse and caused it to scar.

I used this product a few years back when I had mild acne- nothing major. It completely dried out my skin, which had never happened before in my life. I also find that very funny, because they advertised it as being very gentle on skin. My skin isn't even sensitive and it reacted horrible to the product.
It is also a waste of money- I hated how they automatically sent you new product. I wasn't near finished the products when new stuff would come in. I was paying for way more than I was using, it was like an endless cycle.
My doctor even said this is no better than the stuff you can buy at a drugstore (Clean and Clear, etc). So try drugstore brands first, and if that doesn't work, go to your doctor and they'll write you a prescription that will clear you right up. ProActiv is just an awful gimmick.

I can't stand this. I used it for three months only to realize it was drying my skin out and putting harmful chemicals into my pores, causing breakouts based on sensitivity. I have extremely sensitive skin, and it is also acne-prone. This caused more acne than it helped to heal. Thank you proactiv. :( And the lid on all three had snapped off after about two weeks, and I didn't drop them or anything. And after two months, the lotion had run out. It needs about 10 mL more in the bottle.

For me, Proactive works. I noticed results within a few days. You must be diligent though with each step. One setback is that it seems as though my skin had to go through a two week phase of adjusting to the ingredients of Proactive. It initially made my skin very dry as well as my lips, but I didn't give up on it, my skin adjusted and I found that I really liked the results. I would probably still be using proactive if it weren't for their "club". I found that they bill you and send you way more product than you actually use, and if you decide not to have anything autoshipped, they still charge you a "membership fee" each month. I didn't agree with this way of doing business, so I have been using the drug store alternative called Acne Free, and I have the nearly the same results, but for much less money.

I have struggled with acne since I was around 16 years old. I am now 20. I have tried everything under the sun for my acne. I have gone to a dermatologist and used prescription pills and topical ointments. I have used mild cleansers (Neutrogena, Clean & Clear, Cetaphil) and stronger cleansers (Proactiv, Acne-Free, Clinique). Proactive worked for me for about 3 months, and then it just stopped working altogether. So I took a break and came back to it about 2 years later. Again, I used it for about 3 months, and then the acne all the sudden came back...with a vengeance. It is very costly. It might work well for others because we all have different skin types; however, I have heard of this happening to others as well. The only sure way is to try it out for yourself. continued >>

I used this product for almost 10 years and I have to say it really did clear up my acne.
I remember when I first started using it, it really dried out my face so I stopped using the repairing lotion. But a few years ago I started using it twice a day and my skin was clear.
The only reason I stopped using this is because like a majority of beauty products your body becomes used to it and stops being as effective. I now use a clarisonic mia and am so happy but Proactiv really did work for me and in a year or so if I still have skin problems will return to using it.

Absolutely had bad business with them.. It made my face cakey, and broke my skin out even more. On top of that they took money out my account for a product I first haven't received yet and secondly didn't even auto delivery it.. but when I got it in the mail it was way bigger for the price I first paid for fyi the first time I got it it was really little, anyways I decide to keep it and try it a little longer because the customer service lady said to give it "TIME".. Not even 3 weeks later and yet still no clear skin I get a bill in the mail AGAIN.. Overall it had boiled down to me notifying them on "Twitter" to get help to sending it all back.. Its sad it took Twitter to get them to listen and be pleasent.. The customer service is whack and rude.. I got my money back and never ever buying as so much consider this product again.. At the time I didn't know if a product is advertised on TV it is a gimmick and not good..

I did not like this product!! The face wash felt great but in combination with the toner and the cream was very drying and made my face very pink and raw. This also made me break out HORRIBLY just before I was about to run out of product, go figure!
A friend of mine told me that with proactive things will get worse before they get better, I'm not sure if what she said has any validity but from what I experienced id say it could be about right.... i won't be buying more to find out though!!

These products work wonders for me! I first used them 2 years ago, they cleared my skin in around 2 weeks. I was very sensitive to the BP, so I could only use it once a day.
I have recently started to use it again after a break of 2 years due to moderate acne returning. Once again it is clearing my skin up beautifully, and I have a much better tolerance to the BP now as I have used it regularly. My pores are clearer and the extreme oiliness of my skin has calmed right down.
A few things, It has taken longer for it to work this time, up to a month, I'm not sure if this is to do with my tolerance for BP or due to worse acne (maybe a combo of both).
Give it a go, everyone's different. Gradually build up the amount of BP you use because it can become irritating and drying if you use it too often.

Awful product!! The face wash, when used in conjunction with the other two steps, is incredibly drying. The toner, for me, was a disaster, and while it did brighten my skin, it made me breakout horribly thereby defeating the purpose. The repairing lotion was the only thing I actually liked but considering the price, I think I'll pass and just use the $4 Equate version. I'll never buy this again. No point in being a three step system if the tree steps can't be used together. My name is Sara and I don't approve this message!!

I hated it! I used the system for a month because I wanted to give it a shot. I got it to improve my skin but I didn't have bad acne. Proactive was really hard on my skin even when I used it every other day. My skin was really dry and raw. When I was using this I accidentally scratched my face with my thumb nail (it sounds weird, I know) and my skin was so thin that it kind of came right off leaving the area bleeding and a small scab a few days after. Everyone is different but I wouldn't recommend this system.

after an endless battle of breakouts i caved and bought the set. within the first 8 weeks my skin was totally clear! buttttt, it bleached my face and towels and after about 3 months of consecutive use it stopped working. not to mention my husband hated the way it smelt. i switched to PTR beta hydroxy wash at night with clarisonic and exuviancce ultra restorative cream, purpose wash in the morning and olay complete sensitive. every other night i use skinceuticals renew overnight oily and i see major positive changes. good luck, don't give up! your personal HG skin routine is out there!! :]

This is probably the worst thing I have ever done to my skin. I wish I could go back in time. It has prematurely aged my skin, it never helped my skin to heal. It dried my skin out, aggravated my skin and made it cycle between too dry and then too oily repeatedly.
I now treat my skin with respect, I choose products that nurture my skin and pamper it. Moisturizer and serums and things that help my skin to heal and plump up. I will never use harsh ingredients that attack my skin again.
This was so awful i wish I could give it minus 5. Seriously, such a mistake.

Proactiv did not work for me, I have tried everything Proactiv, Clearskin, Avene, Aveeno, Prescription meds and nothing worked most of them made it worse. I do not review items as I would tend not to be impressed with most things. I wanted to share my HG regime with everybody. Braggs apple cider vinegar has changed my life, after 3 weeks my cystic acne has cleared. I cant stop looking at my skin. This has been a long road for me, I have had this acne for the last 4 years and have been to many dermatologists and also herbal healers. I have taken many supplements and vitamins to try and help my skin and while some herbal remedies made it slightly better i always continued to break out. Through much research i began a new all natural routine. If i have makeup on I use a Faith in nature seaweed soap to remove it, then do a small cleanse with light coloured organic honey, when i have more time i leave the honey on for as long as i can as a mask, your skin will feel so good afterwards. Then as a toner i use a mixture made from 50% Braggs Apple cider vinegar and 50% water. finally to moisturise I use 100% natural organic Jojoba oil. This Regime has worked wonders for my skin i have had no new breakouts and my scars are healing daily, i am delighted with the results and can't believe that dermatologists do not encourage more people to try natural products. I would encourage everyone with Acne problems to try this. If anybody needs any further details just contact me. Good luck!!!
