Probably my favourite black eyeshadow. It has a great texture & blends really well. I like that it's dark enough to be black, but not HOLYSHITTHAT'SDARK black. You can build it up gently to deepen it without regretting what you're doing. This is one of my go-to shadows for adding some definition to the crease with just about any look. continued >>

This is such a versatile eyeshadow. I'm not someone who wears black eyeshadow often, so I never considered buying this one. However, one day I went to the MAC counter looking for a grey eyeshadow that could be used as an eyeliner and outer c olour and this was the colour that the MA came up with. I love the fact that it's a dark grey that can show up as either an almost black and a dark grey, depending on how much you apply. It is beautiful as an eyeliner (I use a 266 to apply), and it can be smoked out really well, but it also works great as an outer v colour, especially because its blendability is amazing. It blends so well, without disappearing. Would repurchase, but doubt that will ever be necessary, as the pigmentation is amazing, so you don't need much to get the desired effect.

Typographic is amazing! It's a deep charcoal that's soooo easy to work with. Many matte dark colours can be hard to blend and go on uneven, but Typographic is such a joy to work with. It's just perfect for an all-out smoky eye, or just to add a bit of darkness into the crease for any look. IMO this is a must-have for anyone building a MAC eye shadow collection. It may not look like a true black like Carbon, but this will do exactly what you want Carbon to do, and it will do it better!

Perfect. Dark charcoal brown, super blendy, super pigmented, a complete dream to work with. Two thumbs up.

I heard of this color thru Sarah Victor on you tube. Omg I just had to grab it. This is black without being black, if you catch my drift. It has enough pigmentation to pass as a black. The texture is so smooth I LOVE IT. Ya'll should def invest

This is my favourite eyeshadow of all time. It's too useful to pass up. Others have mentioned the texture, pigmentation, cOlour. I wanna add that this gives me that perfect smudgy powder kohl look i used to get with my kohls from pakistan... Without the hassle of fallout and eye irritation. Also... This turns the simplest looks into beautiful sexy eyes with the addition to crease, or outer v, or used as liner (depending on your brushes and placement). It is just sublime, lending that extra something that propels your makeup out of blah, to hot. If i were to give someone a mac shadow as a gift, it would be this one, seemingly boring but actually glorious.

Woohooooo! First of all let me say that I am a 'newcomer', if you will, to eyeshadows in general. I've never been an eyeshadow girl but recently I've became besotted with looking at all the different colours on the MAC website. I bought this after an extensive search through reviews and favourites and Typographic was among the 3 I bought (along with Satin Taupe and Espresso) although I did already have 2 that I use now and again... but pretty much rarely really (Woodwinked and Era). I have to say that Typographic applies very smoothly and is BLACK. Black, or you can say a very dark grey. Either way, it has a creamy consistency and is very pigmented. It LASTS and doesn't 'slide off' your lids into the creases. I'd recommend this to anyone. I pair it with Satin Taupe on the lids and Typographic in the crease when I have a night out. Fab fab fab! :-)

Typographic is a matte, blackened gray with a creamy, smooth texture. No chalkiness here at all. This works quite well as a soft or precise liner, crease color, outer v definer, and on the lid blended upwards for a dramatic, classic smokey eye. It is essentially a a better version of Carbon. Although it isn't necessarily a true black in the pan, the pay-off is a thousand times better and can be built up to appear black on the eye. This is one of those eyeshadows that goes on forever because it is so ridiculously pigmented. I've had this for over a year and have hardly made a dent. Will repurchase if I ever run out!

i bought this for dirt cheap in america as part of a 4 palette, so $11 for the pan. i use it, but im indifferent. its just a plain old black.

MAC matte[squared] shadows are AMAZINGLY pigmented and smooth! it's a shame they don't make more in this formula. Typographic is a deep black with excellent pigmentation and buttery smooth texture. I love it for smokey eyes and it's very easy to apply and blend. love it and love the matte[squared] formula!

Very pigmented, but also very easy to blend. Its a dark grey/black colour but you can blend it to be a much lighter grey. I like it to line and define my eyes, probably more of an evening look and it would look lovely smudged into a smokey eye, i wont repurchase because its quite expensive for such a basic colour, and one i dont reach for much.
EDIT: wow. this is very soft! i just transferred it into my palette and a couple of days in there and a big chunk has smashed and fallen out. Definetly keep this in its original pot if you think it might get battered in your palette-im not even clumsy with my MAC palette!

I love using Typographic as a liner, since it's softer than basic black but still looks dramatic. It is very pigmented, and the texture is soft and blendable. It works well in smokey looks, but it's a little too dark for me to use as a shadow regularly.

this is a nice black eyeshadow. i find it easy to use, blends really well. sometimes if i want just a subtle smokey eye look i use just a little bit, that way it will only make it look bluish black and not too dark..but of course you can build the color depending on how dramatic you want.

This is an eyeshadow I cannot live without. It is perfect under other eyeshadows to bring out the tones better & make the colour richer. This is also great for smokey looks and is very buildable and blendable. This is my favourite black eyeshadow. Will buy forever! continued >>

I feel bad for bringing Typographic's excellent review down, but I really am rather disappointed. I did a lot of research and decided to choose it over Carbon. I do have to say it's better than Carbon, because when I tried Carbon on the back of my hand I could see how chalky and uneven the texture is. With that said however, Typographic is far from my ideal black shadow. I've tried to line my bottom lash line with it and witnessed its disappearance several hours afterwards. This doesn't happen when I use Urban Decay Creep. While the color does seem to build up on the back of my hand, when I use it on my eyes it doesn't. It just looks dirty, gray, and in-between instead. The color payoff is really pathetic. The only positive thing about it is that there isn't so much fallout. I might try a couple more times, but I'm pretty sure I'll swap this one out.
EDIT 09/11/10: Oh Typographic, I owe you an apology. How my stupid cheapo brushes did NOT do you justice! I got a MAC 219 and decided to give Typographic a last go. AND IT WORKED! A dead, dull black it isn't. Instead, it darkens nicely and blends easily to give you a nice smoky look. What's more, there's little to no fallout. No mess, no fuss! I'm saying I won't repurchase because I'll probably want to try NYX Black or Urban Decay Perversion after I hit pan, but man oh man am I not looking forward to going to the dark side with Typographic!

This eyeshadow is so smooth and glides on when used for lining the eyes, and blends with ease. The colour is not as dark as carbon, but it far easier to use. I use this for setting my liner and there is minimal creasing, unlike my NYX black eyeshadow. Its also great for smokey night time looks.

I bought this soley based on the amazing reviews it has got on here and I am SO glad I did. I usually do a smokey eye with Print, Carbon and Copperplate but found Carbon a little hard to work with. Typographic blends like a dream. Sure, it's not jet black but it's still perfect for dark looks - you can keep adding more to get the depth you require. Pretty much everyone here has said they prefer it to Carbon and I have to agree! It is a gorgeous eyeshadow, highly recommended.

A HUGE thank you to all the reviewers that suggested this shadow in reference to Carbon. I loved Carbon back in my 20's, but as I have aged I prefer my dark shades to not be black, usually deeper browns (Brun, Mystery, Espresso, Handwritten) and purples (Top Knot, Shadowy Lady, Beauty Mark), but I wanted to add a gray to my collection. Don't get me wrong I still use Carbon, but sparingly compared to before. Originally I was thinking about Scene, Knight, Knight Divine, and Print, but based on the reviews I chose Typographic. I absolutely LOVE it!! It's that perfect dark shade of deep gray I have been searching for. It's so creamy, rich in pigmentation, blendable, and extremely user friendly. I can wear it all over the lid, in the crease, as a liner, or outer V dependable on the look I'm going for. It's great that it has no shimmer or sparkle making it more versatile to work with. Highly recommend it!! Thanks MUA again for this recommendation and great reviews!!
