ME: 40s, generally good, combo skin with an oilier t-zone, slight redness on my cheeks, and occasionally very minor monthly breakouts on my chin.

I was using Emma Hardie cleansing balm and thought I'd give Liz Earle a try, since it is less expensive and more conveniently packaged in a pump instead of a tub. I used this for 3 months (daily). Like Emma Hardie, and Eve Lom, which I'm now using, the LE cleanser is used in combo with a muslin cloth. The cloth idea alone is the best thing I've done to my skin in years. My skin needs a lot of gentle exfoliation and the muslin cloths are fab. On to the LE cleanser itself.
PROS:
**I love the packaging, a hygienic pump that is great for travel as well. No mess and it pumps out the perfect amount for me.
**I love the smell of this - very eucalyptus-y.
**Despite the strong smell, this is VERY gentle on my eyes - it didn't sting them at all and wiped away all traces of my super long wearing Serge Lutens mascara. Yay!
**Made my skin feel incredibly soft.
CONS:
**Unfortunately, this made me SUPER oily. At first, I couldn't figure out why oil was practically gushing from the pores on my nose, and then I realized that EL was the ONLY new thing in my skin care/makeup regimen. After trying (and failing) too find a mattifier to control said oil, I switched cleansers (Eve Lom) and voila! No more oiliness.
**I think LE was also causing some painful, under the skin bumps on my chin.
Although it wasn't right for me, I DO think that LE is a nice product - for the right skin. continued >>

This has a lot of hype. But it just doesn't work for me. The past few times when I've used this, it's made me very red and blotchy. Attractive. Not. It smells nice, however and feels very gentle on the skin. I find using the muslin cloths a bit rough though. I can see how some people love this, but for me, it just doesn't make the cut I'm afraid. Not for me, Liz Earle.

I feel like I am the only person with a bad word to say about this product! I so wanted to love it, based on the reviews and initial use. The smell is lovely, the packaging and customer service are great but unfortunately my skin does not like this at all. After 2/3 uses (morning and night) I noticed a few under-the-skin red spots appearing which were more painful than noticeable at first. I thought it may be my skin getting used to a new product so I decided to continue but after a week I had to give up as more painful spots errupted and I decided to return to cetaphil to see if it would clear up. The spots were in unusual places like my forehead and around my nose where I never usually break out. Cetaphil seemed to clear up the problem in about a week to 10 days. Because I wanted to give this cleanser another go, I tried it again last week. Nope, my skin has gone nuts again. Sadly I have to resign this product to the cupboard and admit defeat. Shame. It is a lovely cleanser but just not for me.

I live in the UK and have been using the C&P for years. It is the best cleansing product I have ever used. It really takes off all my makeup thoroughly although as I use waterproof mascara I use a separate eye makeup remover, only because I don't like the cloths getting so dirty. Otherwise the cleanser also removes all waterproof mascara. continued >>

Just didn't work for me - I tried it as an alternative to Eve Lom Cleanser, which has always worked brilliantly for me and I have since gone back to (what can I say? I was bored).
It was fine (though nothing special) for a few weeks, but then my skin got bumpy and I had a slight rash in my cheeks: I don't think I'm the only one this has happened to.
Though it seems cheaper than the Eve Lom, I reckon it works out more expensive as you use a lot more of it. Love the packaging, the customer service and the smell, just not the result.
A quick thought: I can't help suspecting that one of the reasons this stuff gets such a good press is that one of the founders is an ex-beauty editor :/

I love this so much, my skin has really improved in the last few months. For a few days I tried using other products and broke out instantly. If I use this twice a day with the cloth my skin is glowing and healthy again. I no longer suffer from acne. I use this in conjunction with benzoyl peroxide from the acne.org range, the Liz Earle toner and jojoba oil. I've never looked better and I'm convinced this cleanser has made all the difference.
It is lovely and creamy and smells like eucalyptus. I smooth on a blob and wash it off with a muslin. If I have a lot of makeup on I need to use the toner as well as it won't get everything off. I still need a separate eye makeup remover but I don't mind.
The price is not bad, about £23 I think for a large 200ml tube which lasts about 2 months. Even if it was twice as much I would probably buy it as I don't think I could do without it now!
If you order directly from them you get mini sizes as free samples too.
I'm so happy I tried this!

I cannot go outside without this cleanser. I've been using it on and off for the past 10 years and I always come back to it and regret trying other things. It balances my skin (I'm prone to acne), makes my face feel clean and is very soothing if I get sore breakouts. This also stops dry patches appearing and gives a nice gentle exfoliation each day. I always use heavy waterproof liquid eyeliner and waterproof mascara and it has no problem in tackling this with no extra rubbing needed to remove it. Well worth the investment as it is a little pricey though does last a long time.

This cleanser works for me. I avoided trying it for years because:
1) I got great results from cleansers which cost significantly less
2) I felt sure the efficacy of the routine would be down to the wonderful LE muslin cloths (as opposed to the cleansing product itself)
3) I balked at the ingredients list.
Well, I caved because of the hype and I've been using Cleanse and Polish on and off for a few years now. On and off because, although I like it a lot, I still love trying new products. (I do, however, stick with using the muslin cloths because they seem to make every wipe-off cleanser work that bit harder.)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What I like about the cleanser:
I like that it's just the right texture to adhere well to the skin (without dripping/running/making a hellish mess like many other lotions, milks, balms and natural oils etc I've used).
In spite of this, it removes really easily and leaves my skin feeling soft, supple and totally clean.
Also, it always astonishes me that Cleanse and Polish has never broken me out. My skin isn't particularly blemish-prone, admittedly. But it does object occasionally to new products by forming whiteheads and/or becoming red and tight. I thought my pores would be clogged for sure once I'd scanned the ingredients list. (Still couldn't resist trying the cleanser, though!) After water, the second and third respective ingredients listed are capric/caprylic triglyceride and cocoa butter - well-known, I believe, for being comedogenic. So, two things people with acne-prone/problem skin are told to avoid, and there they were with almost top billing!
Also, while I normally enjoy using certain essential oils in skincare, I've never, to my knowledge, used a product containing rosemary or eucalyptus oils on my face. I worried that, even if my skin wasn't irritated by these oils, then surely my sensitive, contact-lens-wearing eyes would be affronted!
Surprisingly, this cleanser has never caused my skin or my eyes to react. I can use it all over the eye area and all traces of makeup are removed with ease - and without discomfort.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I've rated this cleanser 4/5 lippies because I still think it's the muslin cloth that's the hero of the cleanse and polish routine. However, it remains a reliable option if I'm stuck for what to use on my face to ensure soft, clean, calm, happy skin.
I'd recommend it to most skin types (for reference, my cheeks are normal and my T-zone is oil-prone), but acne sufferers may wish to look elsewhere because of the potentially pore-clogging ingredients.

After all the hype on internet about this cleanser i had very high expectations. The packaging is really lovely, I really like the pump and smell of the product. After using it my skin was very soft and clean BUT it broke me out. I tried it few times but the same thing happened. I gave it to my sister and she really likes it but still this suppose to be good for sensitive skins and its not. I still use muslim cloths with other cleansers.

Lovely cleanser. I absolutely adore the smell, as I am a big fan of eucalyptus. A gentle cleanser that leaves my skin feeling wonderful and smooth. I am not giving it a 5 because it didn't deep cleanse, but it's good for removing makeup. Great to use in the shower for a quick cleanse in the morning.

Absolutley delighted with this cleanser. I got it as a generous sized free gift when I ordered the new Sheer Tint from Liz Earle's website. I have only used it a few times so far, but my skin looks absolutely amazing! I am lucky to have pretty clear skin anyway, but when I have used this I look like I have foundation on, my skin looks perfect! I am definatley buying the full size product when the sample has ran out. Highly reccomended.

Nice product! It cleans my face perfectly without making it dry and reasonably cheap. However it doesn't really improve my skin so I wouldn't give a 5

Like many people I'd head rave reviews about this product, both online and from friends and colleagues, so it clearly does work for some people but sadly I'm not convinced.
First the pros:
- The product smells nice and fresh, but not too strong.
- Using the warm damp cloths is quite soothing.
- It didn't dry out my skin or lead to any major breakouts
I like the idea of a creamy cleanser and although it felt strange to be putting something so thick onto my oily skin the product does claim to be suitable for all skin types.
Now the cons:
- My skin didn't feel very clean after using, it was like there was a residue left there, although I followed the cleansing instructions exactly.
- The cloth thing could get tedious, especially the frequent washing required.
- The texture and tone of my skin did not improve at all in the time taken to use up the bottle. I still had the same number of blocked pores and red spots as before and I did not notice a change in oiliness when compared with my standard £4 cleanser.
This wasn't a terrible product for me and I think it would perhaps be better suited to my skin in the winter when it's drier, so I've given it three lippies. However it was a disappointment that something marketed as being for all skin types had no beneficial effects for me. It's not hugely expensive compared to some equally popular brands, but pricey enough to put me off purchasing again. If you have dry or normal skin then this could be brilliant, but if like me your skin tends towards oily and acne-prone then I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Really love this cleanser. Have only been using it about 3-4 weeks now, but it's a keeper!
It is a creamy product in a nice pump dispenser. It has a nice fresh scent that doesn't linger too much. Feels glorious when you apply to the skin and rub in. Wipes off easily with the hot muslin cloths, leaving my skin feeling baby soft and super clean without any dryness or residue. It's strange - it feels very gentle when you are using it, but it is clearly a force to be reckoned with, dissolving any dirt, make up or oil that gets in its way!
Tip - take off mascara beforehand with a regular eye makeup remover - it's tough to get the strains out of the cloths, and also, because the cleanser "melts" your make up, it ends up all over your face.
It is a teeny bit pricey, but worth it I think - the quality of the product is superb, and your order always comes with very generous samples and freebies.

I really wanted to love this and join the rest of the Cleanse & Polish fans but unfortunately this cleanser irritated my sensitive skin and I just couldn't use it. It obviously works well for a lot of people and I've read many reviews from happy customers with sensitive skin but personally I found the eucalyptus oil overwhelming and tingly - an unnecessary effect in any skincare product, if you ask me. I would strongly recommend getting a sample before trying this. continued >>

I really love this product.. my combination skin feels *fully* cleansed without being dried out or clogging pores and is left soft to the touch and actually radiant. I find lots of products claim to 'create radiance' but this is one of the only products I've found that truely does. The only downside is that is doesn't stop my breakouts, but I seem to get less spots and it definitely gets rid of the spots that do come out, much quicker than usual. Overall my skin is left in such a lovely condition (both in touch and appearance) it's definitely worth the money, despite the odd spots still being there.

Absolutely LOVE this product... Liz Earle, where have you been all my life?! Together with retin-a and a new birth control pill, my skin has been transformed from oily, rough, dull and generally disgusting. After using this my skin has never actually looked cleaner, all my pores are clear and my skin looks much brighter and smoother. Lovely to get an exfoliator that doesn't dry my skin out (which later leads to massive oil production as my skin compesates). Leaves my skin beautifully soft and clear and I usually don't even need to use moisturiser afterward.

This is my HG cleanser! Leaves the skin feeling very soft and smooth and doesn't irritate the skin which is important as my skin is very sensitive. I also love the smell and texture of it and feels lovely when massaging it all over the skin! The whole Liz Earle range is amazing, but I love love love this product and it's definately the product that stands out for me!
