I just realized that I have used this product on and off for 10 years- I think it deserves a revue. I have fairly dry course hair that is a but wavey. After air drying, I sometimes apply a 2 pea sized amount to the roots of my second day hair to add some moisture back into the ends and keep my hair smooth. I use some in my hair before I use a straightening iron. I feel that the extra moisture make the straightening a bit easier and leaves my hair feeling smooth. I love the smell- quintessential aveda scent I cant get enough of.

after i figured out how to use this, i really liked it. at first, i only used a tiny bit b/c i was afraid of weighing down my hair, but that didn't make a difference. now i use about a quarter size on my chin length hair, which seems just right. this cream doesn't provide stiff hold, so not good for more dramatic styles, but it's great for every day professional hair w/definition. it feels sticky on my hands + a little on my hair, but i think that's what provides the definition. i don't mind the smell; it's typical aveda herbal smell.

If one could get past the extremely spicy, masculine fragrance (think old spice) this product might work well. I have very thick/ coarse 3c hair that almost reaches my waist. The amount of product I needed to use on my hair made the scent unbearable. It does make hair shiny but in my case this is not enough to outweigh the annoying fragrance.

I've been using this product off-and-on since 2003. Like most leave-in hair products, I have a love/hate relationship with this cream. I have medium hair and lots of it, so this cream is suited to me, but if I use even just a bit too much my hair ends up looking oily and dirty. Less is definitely more, as other reviewers have pointed out - otherwise, this can be a very heavy product.
What I do love about it is how shiny it makes my hair look! I apply it very sparingly to dry hair and give my hair a few passes with my Aveda paddle brush, and that seems to help distribute it nicely. The result is glossy hair with no fly-aways! I also apply it to damp hair, then wrap my hair into a tight, high-set bun and let it air dry...when I later let the bun down, my hair has a beautiful wavy texture, like I just came from the beach, and very shiny.
I've cheated on this product with TIGI Bed Head After-Party, but I give the edge to Aveda's cream. It's less greasy and doesn't feel filmy on my hair. It keeps the frizzies away, and feels moisturizing. I've had my current tube for YEARS (2+, I'm thinking?) so it's safe to say that this is economical. Recommend!

I got this in a swap (thanks MUAer eco751!) and I really do like it so far! I only use this when I'm flat ironing my hair, because it weighs down my borderline curly hair and gives it pretty much no life whatsoever. However, when I use this and straighten my hair, I'm left with a ton of shine and I can actually run my fingers through it! And contrary to what everyone else is saying on here, I love the smell! It's very herbal smelling and I think it smells great! And it is a very heavy cream, so I only use a pea size amount like the bottle says ^^

I fried my hair with a series of bad dye jobs and bleaching...this is the only thing that has penetrated the frizz to smooth out my ends and make my hair normal again. A little goes a long way and you have to build it up slowly to make sure you don't over do it. If your hair is dry and puffy, this is gives the 'weight' you're looking for. I love love love the smell. It actually does EXACTLY what it says on the tube: defines, moisturizes, and adds shine.

Its very moisturizing and gives my hair a great sheen when I style my hair in braid-outs and twist-outs. My problem is the smell which is very heady and masculine. I will not be repurchasing for that reason alone.

I bought this years ago and still have it over 3/4 left. I have pretty fine hair, so I only use a teeny amount so as not to weigh it down. It is good for flatironing. I'm not fond of the fragrance - it's too masculine.

My hair is thin, frizzy, and
very curly. This creme just
made my hair greasy, dull, and knatted up. The only positive thing I can say about it is that it left my hair very moisturized.

This is my fave styling cream. Goes on smooth without weighing down my hair and keeps the frizz away. And the smell is great. Reminds me of a Barber shop. Cannot recommend enough!

This stuff does a great job of getting rid of frizz and smoothing my hair, however the horrible smell is so overwhelming that I am returning it. If they ever come out with an unscented version Ill be first in line to buy it!

I love the combination of smoothing, shine, velvety texture and control this gives. Similar things I've tried succeed in some of those categories (B&B Brilliantine, for example, doesn't really control or help hold) but this is the only one that does it all. So why wouldn't I buy it again? It is heavy and very easy to overdo on my hair, which is thick and mixed coarse-fine, mid-neck length and very layered. Also, the spicy scent, while pleasant, is overwhelming. It sticks with you the entire day. I can see this being a holy grail for someone with long, thick, curly/wavy hair with long layers that can take a heavy amount of product. Try to get a sample or try it in-store and make sure you love the scent. continued >>

I'm not sure about this stuff.I like it but it's just okay.It doesn't wow me and it really does nothing special for me.I couldn't really tell you if it's good, but I can tell you it's not bad.

This product is middle-of-the-road for me, I love the Aveda smell and they have pretty good shampoos and conditioners, but I am not really finding that their styling products work all that well. I had been using this with Aveda Damage Control spray before blow-drying but it doesn't seem to be protecting or helping my hair.
The tube is a decent size for the price but I feel like I can find something that will do more for my hair that costs the same, I find the universality of the cream to be too broad to do anything specific for my long, slightly wavy hair.

This is a staple for me. i can not get enough of that smell! the cream is thick and rich and a little bit goes a very long way, you can over apply then you have the greaser look, i keep it away from my bangs. Simple to use and great results every time - wash and towel dry your hair, comb this through and i'm ready to apply makeup and leave for work, it tames frizz, defines my waves and smells amazing. a tube lasts forever, so the high price works out to be not that high when you see how long it lasts. a very nice product.

I've been using this product for years. It's on the expensive side if you are used to only buying drugstore products - but it lasts forever.
I put in on my damp hair if I'm air drying. I have thick wavy hair and it really tames the frizzies.
Also - I use it after the flatiron to smooth and add shine. Never makes the hair look greasy - just healthy.
Love this product - will buy again and again.
