I bought this shampoo and the conditioner to go with it at Ulta. In the shower, the shampoo seemed fine, but I had to use double the conditioner for it to feel silky. That day, I had the driest hair I've had in YEARS. It is winter though, so I figured I'd wait until the next day to see how my hair is on day 2 (I'm someone that washes my hair every 2-4 days, depending on what I'm doing, weather, and how much I'm touching my hair--hands can be oily). Day two was JUST AS BAD--dry, frizzy, gross. Normally I love my hair, but this made me hate it... pretty much more than ever.
So, I went home and washed my hair with Pantene and it felt great again. Returned the shampoo and conditioner that week and tried out the Argan version instead. Still deciding if it's better than Pantene. ^_^
I think the worst thing about this product was that it gave me a dry, itchy scalp - and therefore flakes! Ew. I used the shampoo together with the conditioner for a number of months, and it wasn't anything impressive at all - it didn't necessarily dry out my hair, but it did leave it more prone to static and my scalp (which is normally pretty healthy) was really flakey. It wasn't super drastic and it still wasn't dandruff (which is usually caused by an overabundance of a bacteria that's normally found on your scalp in smaller numbers), so I didn't think much of it and kept using it. Then I changed climates, moving somewhere much warmer but with about the same amount of humidity, and my scalp got worse!
I thought for sure it was the change in temperature, so again I kept using this shampoo. But my 2b hair wasn't curling very nicely, and I decided to play around with other drug store shampoos to see what happened. Lo and behold, my scalp started getting infinitely better! I do use curling cream on the ends, but I don't go up to the roots and I don't use hairspray, so the only thing I can attribute to causing the flakes was this shampoo. What really convinced me was shampooing with it a few days ago, when I ran out of my normal shampoo and grabbed this one - as soon as my hair dried, I could feel this itchy flakes coming back, and now I'm throwing it out!
If you love it, great! But if you're thinking of trying new shampoos, I would skip this one. The claims about organic ingredients are dubious, I'm doubtful that the content of argon oil is even significant, and even overlooking the scalp issues it caused me, it's just not an impressive shampoo at all.
I have not used the conditioner that goes with this but I have used the shampoo. It left my hair dry and frizzy. It was not conditioning like I expected at all. I used it a few times and had it with how awful my hair felt and tossed it. Waste of $$$$ for me.
I love this shampoo. I use the conditioner also. I have long wavy color treated hair and swear by this one. I've used a million shampoos, and once I started using this, I never tried another one.
Gets my hair clean, smells fantastic and my color seems to last forever. I wash every 2-3 days and my hair doesn't get oily or look dirty until my hair washing day.
I recommend it to everyone. It costs more than I like, up to 9 bucks depending on where I buy it, but if you get it at Wal-Mart it's 5 and some change.
Bought this sulfate free shampoo on recommendation of person who dyes my hair every 6 weeks to help keep color from fading. Lathered ok for sulfate free, but left my hair like straw. Less color stripping but way too drying.
I finally found a shampoo and conditioner that doesn't dry out my hair. Let's just say my hair is super unruly, dry, coarse, and frizzy. This shampoo helps tame it and hydrate it and it doesn't strip my hair because it's sulfate free. I love it and it's my HG shampoo and I will keep repurchasing, I'm on my 3rd bottle :)
The smell of this shampoo is delicious there is no denying that. That overall quality of this shampoo sucked in my opinion. It dried my hair out, made it dull and just wasn't conditioning. That upside of this product-it didn't weigh my medium thin hair down, and it smelt nice. Would never repurchase.
For reference, my hair is quite straight, flat, and thin (Asian hair). Firstly, this shampoo smells SOOO GOOD. I love anything coconut so I instantly fell in love with the scent. It made my hair feel clean and I noticed that after a few uses my hair felt a bit softer and nicer. However, I found that this shampoo really weighed down my hair. My hair is already quite flat to begin with, and this really made my hair look even more flat and it had literally no volume. The fact that it smells so good really does not outweigh how flat it made my hair, and so I won't be purchasing this again.
Love this stuff my hair smells amazing and looks amazing afterwords after my hair got used to it in two uses. LOVE LOVE LOVE
For you consideration: I have a lot of very wavy, spiral curly natural virgin dark chestnut brown hair, and it is a little course on the back bottom of my hair with frizz tendency. This is the first drugstore shampoo that I've used that I like and doesn't make me break out with dandruff. My scalp is dandruff prone and I have to keep a dandruff shampoo at hand to use at least once or twice a week depending on how much product I style my hair with . This shampoo tends to do an "okay" job at cleaning my scalp- I can live with how well it cleans my scalp. I love the lather and I feel like it lives up to its name- it's "nourishing." I'm afraid I wont be using it as often though because it has done an amazing job at strengthening, so now its too much protein for my fair. I use it with the conditioner, the leave in cream and I use Hair Chemists coconut oil serum. Organix coconut line has done its job for me, I've only used the shampoo three time and I'm almost done with my 19.5 oz bottle of conditioner. M y hair was somewhat "crisp" when I would manipulate it the next day when it was dry after I had washed it the night before. I know when my hair gets crispy, it has too much protein and needs hydration. I have very healthy hair, per se, I just am prone to some dryness and split ends, but a trim takes care of that problem. I will be moving on to Macadamia oil hydrating set, and I will review later. I will go back to this duo set when I feel my hair is up for it again, it's a great product.
