I'm frankly confused about all the different products Ombrelle releases depending on which country you're in, but this review is for the SPF 30 lotion with blue and white "Kids" label, and "Sensitive Skin" in a small red stripe. I'm from Canada and bought this at my local drugstore, by the way. Sunblock has always been a problem for my oily, sensitive skin with mild rosacea; I know I need sun protection, but I can't tolerate chemical sunblock ingredients. To this day, I still can't use any legitimate sunblock on my face (I have to rely on my mineral foundation and a baseball cap for protection). On my body, though, I've been using Neutrogena's Sensitive Skin SPF30 for years, because it's virtually the only affordable sunblock with just Titanium Dioxide (9.1%) , which my skin can tolerate. The downside of having titanium dioxide is that the finish is certainly not "cosmetically elegant", nor should it be - the whole point of using a physical block is to have a thick enough layer so it would reflect the UV rays like a mirror. The Neutrogena sunblock does leave a somewhat sticky feel, but still better than burnt skin and rashes.

Nevertheless, I WOULD like some extra UVA protection. I reacted rather badly to avobenzene/Parsol 1789, so wasn't too sure about trying out Mexoryl SX. This Ombrelle product claims to be "very gentle", with only two sunblock ingredients in the forms of 10.5% titanium dioxide, and 1% Mexoryl SX. I bought it on sale at $12.99 CAD for 120ml. I tried it out on the back of my left hand first, and was dismayed when I felt slight stinging and itching in places. That went away in about 10 minutes, but not a nice start. Soon after, a very sunny day forced me to slather my arms with the stuff, with much trepidation. However to my surprise, there was no itching and stinging this time around. Few more tries later, it's living up its name of "very gentle", with a nicer finish than the Neutrogena one...it still leaves a bit of stickiness (I guess there's no way around that issue), but certainly better than Neutrogena.

How does it do under the sun? Pretty good. I still duck into the shade whenever possible, so I can't really say how it would perform on the beach with water, sand, and what have you. As with all other sunblocks, reapplication is key. All I know is my skin isn't breaking out from this product or the sun, as it is wont to do.

Are there better sunblock out there in terms of UVA protection and finishing? Most definitely. However for people who have completely wacko skin like mine, with a very small pool of products to select from, this is not bad at all, and I'd happily repurchase it until they come out with something better I can tolerate.
