Not sold on this one at all. Firstly it stings my skin, not to the point of being unbearable or anything, but it's particularly noticeable if, for example I have a cold and the skin around my nose is a bit sore. The pump dispenser is absolutely useless. Wouldn't repurchase.

I LOVE this cleanser. it just may be my staple. not sure yet.
anyway
So let's dive in shall we...
This product comes in a bright-a&* orange bottle with a pump dispenser, it can be found at most drug stores and organic stores like... Whole Foods, CVS, Walgreens, Target..etc for about 11 US dollars(you get nearly 9oz --8.5). In my opinion it's a little pricey for a drugstore cleanser, or at least for one that's so readily available like this one. however it is a hell of a lot cheaper than what you buy at department stores or higher end brands like Shiseido, Estee Lauder, Lancome etc...so yeah down to the cleanser itself
This cleanser claims to be a soap-less way of cleansing your face, it holds true to that claim as it doesn't foam. The consistency is like ...hmm have you ever put on a really yogurt-y mask?...not so milky yet not so gel-y kind of in between. anyway . one pump dispenses a nice amount. i however, end up using about 3 for my entire wash. i pump two full pumps into my palms and rub it into my face and neck then i take my little pore cleansing pad (the pink thing from sephora) and add one pump to that then i get to work on my face and buff away gently. --- This product does burn the eyes a bit, more like stings, but that fades it you rinse with water a little. (what cleanser DOESnt burn the eyes??? to all of you who complain about eye makeup removal) oh just a little tangent, to all of you who dont like this cleanser's makeup removing abilities, don't expect tOO much. it was meant to cleanse the face, not take shiseido sunscreen off the face --sunscreen used to exemplify things with heavy staying power--
anyway... Now here's where it gets down to the details. this product claims to clarify tone and texture and provide supreme free radical defense, which is nice, but i mean how is that going to happen within the 10 seconds that this stuff goes from the pump to my face, right? that is why my lovelies.. after gently buffing i allow the cleanser and such to sit on my face for at least 30-60 seconds, maybe even longer (i just do something else in the shower like wash my body in the mean time) that way the ingredients in this cleanser get the time they need to do the job they were meant to do. it does tingle, let me tell you--it may even burn if youre not used to it. The first day i used this my face was red..the kind of red after a sunburn... and it did sting. but i got used to it and 6 bottles later i can tolerate the sting of the orange essential oil and vitamin c in this, Let me make note that although i AM used to this product it does tingle from time to time, especially if you get it on your lips, one of the others reviewers mentioned it made the lips numb? yeah something like that. nothing you should call 911 over though... haha.. :] Oh! the scent. If you just cut open a fresh orange, binGO! this is exactly what it smells like. it'll surely wake you up! i read that orange essential oil is supposed to be calming too? anyway after i rinse the cleanser off i have radiant skin with no redness, no dryness, nor any stripped or overly greasy feeling. i love this product and as long as i dont find anything better i will continue to use it !!
p.s i DO have a gripe about this product... i hate the packaging. yes the pump is very sanitary and such but i wish the pump was air-tight or in a tube so i could get every drop of this stuff out. when you get down to your last...hmm i'd say 1/3 to 1/4 of your bottle the pump will stop working. so to solve that i either do one of two things. i smack the bottle upside down to get the stuff out, which makes me use more than i end up needing... wasting product. oR i add some water to it and shake it up to mix, so the pump can work normally once again. It does get diluted after this so i end up using 6-8 pumps when it gets low. either way when you get low make sure you get another bottle just in case you run out. The bottle is waste-prone towards the end.
Overall i LOVE this!! Staple, no doubt. I recommend anyone at least give this a try if youre looking for an organic line of washes. continued >>

I really, really wanted to love this product, and while I don't hate it, I do have problems with it. One, it will sting your eyes like a bugger, so it's tough to use as a complete face wash for taking off everything including mascara/eye makeup. I don't know if it's the vitamin c or whatever, but my eyes were very irritated by it. Which made me just about (figuratively) cry since the ingredients list is fab -- various oils, vitamins C, B5 and E, organic components, etc.
Second, it makes my lips go numb. It feels like I got a shot of novocaine at the dentist. It's not a long-lasting effect, mostly disappears after rinsing, but not really something I want from my cleanser.
My other big problem is with the packaging. I like pumps, but this one is frustrating when getting to the end. The stem doesn't reach all the way down, so I have to keep unscrewing the top and tapping product into my hand. Doing this a couple times at the very end is understandable, but the pump stops being useful with a week or two of product still left. It also seemed like some sort of separation occurred, with the last bit of cleanser being heavier/thicker or having settled on the bottom. Anyway, just a bit frustrating. I looked, but don't see anything on the bottle indicating it needs to be shaken up to keep things from separating.
Overall, I've used an entire bottle and haven't noticed any significant improvement in my skin. It didn't break me out, but I don't see any radiance or vitamin C effects.
I liked the idea of a more moisturizing cleansing milk and don't mind it not foaming up; it seems to remove makeup adequately even without the foaming soap components. I just don't like the stinging eyes and numb lips or the style of pump. Price is okay -- a little expensive for a cleanser, but not outrageous. I paid 11 USD for mine.

At first I did not like this product because I did not know the difference between cleansing milk and facesoap. It doesn't lather and kinda leaves a film on your face although it feels moisturizing since I realized that I didn't break out from it and look greasy. It is great at taking off eye makeup and is so gentle on skin. I read in a book somewhere that soap is bad for your face and have been using this product religiously since then.. in addition a once a week face mask, exfoliation, and extractions in hot shower.

I bought this specifically for in-between chemical peels because my staple LUSH Coalface is too harsh to use when my face is peeling and red. The smell is wonderful, very orangey citrusy. On my normally extremely oily skin, this is very gentle. I wouldn't count on this as a daily cleanser to totally remove makeup especially WP mascara, but if you're looking for a gentle, natural cleanser that smells fresh and yummy, I'd recommend this cleanser. Particularly for dry to combo skins.

I use this to remove my make-up at night, and I absolutely love it. It removes everything from my face, including my waterproof mascara that won't budge for any other eye make-up remover in the world (before this, I had to use extra virgin olive oil to get it off, and even then I really had to work at it). It also doesn't break out my acne-prone skin, has a very helpful pump to dispense the product, and is pretty affordable given the amount of product that you get (I paid a little more than $10 for this at Target, and this has 8.5 fl. oz. of product in it). It does have a strong orange scent and I can see how it wouldn't be pleasant if you didn't like that smell, but I personally love it.
I only have a few complaints. One is that it really, REALLY stings if you get it in your eyes (which it's hard to not do if you're using it to remove your eye make-up). The other is that sometimes, if I'm wearing a lot of eye make-up that's hard to remove, I have to apply this more than once to get it off. It will smear a little onto the area under my eyes while I'm rinsing it off, so I'll have to dry the area off again, reapply the product, and rinse it off a second time in order to get rid of all of the residue. I don't really mind this, but some people might find it annoying.
I love this and will definitely be repurchasing it!
EDIT: In the last few days, I've changed my mind on this product completely. I very recently started using the Clarisonic Mia, and now I realize that this stuff doesn't take my make-up off as well as I thought at all. After I rub this in and rinse it off, my skin looks clear--there's no visible trace of make-up. I do use an acne cleanser after it, and then I apply my toner. Since no make-up was coming off on the cotton ball when I applied my toner (and my other cleanser was for acne treatment, not make-up removal), this meant that this must have been effectively removing the make-up on my face. Oh my gosh was I wrong. When I use the Clarisonic with my acne cleanser immediately after using this, the brush heads turn the color of my foundation, every single night. So, this really isn't doing a good job of taking my make-up off, unfortunately. I'll be looking for a better make-up remover, and I definitely will not repurchase this.

I've been using this for about a month now and am really liking the results so far. I'm 9 months pregnant and have been looking for a cleanser that actually cleans without making my cheeks look like the Sahara. I think this is it! I use this morning and night. Every other night I mix a little of this cleanser with some organic sugar to make a facial scrub. My skin is baby soft, more even-toned, and my cheeks are not dry! This removes light makeup on its own. If I wear heavier makeup, I use an Equate makeup remover towelette first. I haven't used this with my Clarisonic yet (I need to buy a new brush head!), but I bet it would be perfect!

Not sure if I like this or the gel better, but it is so refreshing and leaves my skin looking soft and smooth, with no greasy residue. Doesn't dry my skin out either and my skin looks so radiant and clear with this. Great product!

I was pleasantly surprised by this. I was a little scared after I read the reviews after buying this, but thankfully I had a positive experience using this. One weird thing is that it stings just a little on my lips and below my nose, but the rest of my facial skin had no problem. Contrary to the other reviews, I find that it cleanses really well. You have to remember, it's all natural and not full of industrial strength cleaners like other cleansers might be. It also smells nice and orangey, though it's not overwhelming.

I prefer the gel Vitamin C cleanser from this same line. I love the gel cleanser so much I decided to buy this hydrating milk cleanser and have been really dissapointed. It stings my eyes, stings my skin, and doesn't really seem to clean well. I prefer Juice Beauty Cleansing milk or Weleda Almond Cleansing milk or Luvalla Cleansing milk over this one :-(

This smells lovely, but it's not a very impressive cleanser. I don't have sensitive skin, but because my face will occasionally get a wee bit irritated from Retin-A use, I noticed that this can sometimes sting very badly. The whole point of me purchasing a cleansing milk was to try to cleanse my skin without irritation! It also doesn't remove makeup, sunscreen, or even excess oil, so it has very limited use to me. Halfway through the bottle, I started using it to clean my brushes. And even then I have to wash my brushes again with a foaming cleanser to get them really clean! I definitely won't repurchase, but for those who are curious to try, it's very inexpensive (less than $6 for 8.5oz) at vitacost.com.

I tried this cleanser about 9 mos ago in the search for my beloved & discontinued HG cleanser, EO Everyday Cleanser for Sensitive Skin, & I didn't much like it. It was too drying for me & I didn't think much of the C hype, since Vit. C is way unstable in liquid (don't know what that means for all the C serums). Then last week I ran out of Juice Organics Nourishing Cleanser, which I've been using until I find something I like better. I found the bottle of this & I couldn't remember why I didn't like it so I tried it again & this time I like it pretty well! It doesn't dry my skin & in fact leaves it looking fairly moist & rosy. I'm very happy that it's helping the PC 2% BHA do away w/my blackheads & clogged pores more quickly. Altogether I'm liking this creamy cleanser much better than last time around I'll still keep looking for something a little more moisturizing. I find that if I use it on dry skin as the label instructs it's a bit drying, though using toner takes care of the dry feeling. The way it works best for me is to rinse my face in the shower using warm water until I've gotten as much surface oil off as I can. I partially blot my face dry so most but not all of it's dry, then I gently massage about 1 1/4 pumps of this around on my face for a few minutes & use a sopping washcloth very gently on & around my nose & chin for a minute before rinsing very well. This way it cleans really well & leaves my skin feeling clean & soft w/no film. If I use this on wet skin it leaves my skin feeling a bit filmed when it's wet, though I don't notice much of anything when it's dry, & it doesn't seem quite as clean.

I really liked this cleanser. It smells great (really citrusy) and is extremely gentle. Some people can be irritated by Vit. C but I had no problems. It really cleaned nicely and the pump is easy to use. Just wish I could find it in more stores! I ran out and didn't have time to hunt it down so bought something else out of desperation. Will definitely buy again!

Great cleanser, very gentle and does not dry out my skin. Works well to remove sunscreen. I apply it to my dry face, massage in then rinse thoroughly. it smells great too!

I am a recent convert to the Vitamin C line from Avalon Organics. I began using their Vitality Serum about 8 weeks ago and my skin absolutely loves it! I recently got a Clarisonic brush and have been looking for a good cleanser to use with it. I had previously been using Earth Science Clarifying Facial Wash, but found it too foamy and drying to use with the Clarisonic. This cleanser is terrific with the Clarisonic. It rinses clean, and leaves my skin dewey and not parched. I notice the same benefits with the cleanser as I do with the serum (and the brush probably has something to do with this as well...); more even skin tone, rosey cheeks, the fading of reddish-colored acne scars, the fading of brown-colored sun spots, less acne, and fewer clogged pores. What more can a girl ask for? FYI: I have pretty darn resistant skin, so I'm not sure how this would be for sensitive-skinned folks. I know it has a lot of extracts and essential oils which i know can be a nightmare for sensitive gals, but awesome for me! And natural to boot! Makes me feel good about using it. I paid about $11 for a 8.5 oz. hygenic pump bottle. Can't complain! I was previously using Weleda Almond Cleansing Milk, which is twice as expensive for half the amount and which also left me with mor clogged pores, etc. I think because it is more oil-based.

I really wanted to like this cleanser since I had used the Vit C serum from the same line and really liked it. This creamy cleanser leaves no oily residue behind, which was one of my main concerns but unfortunatley for me it stings my face!!. After using it last night for the third time, it really burned my skin and it left me red patches on the sides of my eyes for a few. I bought the cream cleanser because I know my skin is more on the sensitive side but that sure didnt work. Maybe I need to give my skin more time off the Tazorac and try this cleanser in six months or something. If only it didnt sting it would be an awsome cleanser, I would advice sensitive skin types to steer clear.

I recently started using the Vitamin C line and have been really impressed. I like the fact that this goes on dry skin, and then is rinsed off which allows me to massage it in. It's great for makeup removal as well as general cleansing. I have sensitive combination skin, so I initially was a bit leery about using a vitamin C product. However, this has been really gentle. A great find. ***Edit 3/8/08 - after having used this for 2 months, I'm changing to 3 lippies. It is mild, but I think this line is causing my skin to really break out.

I wanted to review this product for all those people like myself who are really trying to buy products that are effective, natural and not putting more money into big pollutant companies' pockets. I guess I'm just a sucker, but I do love the underdog with high ideals. For me this has been a bumpy road, sometimes I do stray and just buy what looks shiny and pretty, but overall I really am trying to be a conscious consumer... on a budget.
First let me say that I am not a huge fan of Avalon's products in general. I have off and on sensitive skin and many of their products just plain burn and irritate. I'm not sure if it's the high concentration of essential oils and extracts (although many natural cosmetics brands that do use them don't cause any problems for me, hmmm) or the small amount of chemicals they use -- YES, even though they claim to be a "natural" cosmetics company they are not entirely true to this due to their use of parabens and other chemicals. BUT, on a scale of 1-10 when you compare a company like Avalon to Dove (for example) they are certainly more eco-conscious.
So, I am at my local grocer browsing through the natural and organic aisles and I see this cleanser. I generally look for something cream/milk/oil based to remove my makeup well and not leave my face dry. After thoroughly reading the ingredients I see that it is not too offensive, take a quick whiff just for smells sake (it's a nice clean, but not overpowering, citrus-y smell) and decide to make the purchase. Not overly pricey, I think I paid right around $10USD. I have to say I am surprisingly pleased with it. It does remove makeup well, which is a requirement for me, including non-waterproof mascara. One pump is enough to cleanse my face and it rinses well with no filmy residue. It is not drying and after washing up for the night, my skin is left soft and comfortable. It is mostly gentle -- some days I do notice a slight tingle of irritation but generally I tolerate it well.
I highly recommend. Maybe not the best cleanser I have ever used, but certainly and by far not the worst. I will probably buy this again since it worked well and can be found conveniently for a good price.
12/08 UPDATE: I still occasionally use this product, it works well to remove makeup, is mostly non-irritating and I can find it at the store easily. I do like to mix it up a bit but I'm sure I will repurchase. The only thing that I find a little concerning is that after washing my face my lips feel numb/tingly. Weird. I have also noticed this phenomenon with the Alba Hawaiian Coconut Milk Facial Wash.

Usually I get a clarifying cleanser, but I bought this when I was looking for something gentler that would not dry out my face further while I'm in the first few weeks of using mandelic acid. Since the mandelic is changing my skin so much, it's hard to know how this product is affecting my skin, but it smells and feels like a dream. I will probably continue to use it on the delicate skin on my chest and during drier weather.

This is a really good cleanser for a really good price. It is for dry skin and is very gentle yet effective. I was using Origins Liquid Crystal (an oil-based cleanser) and I like this just as well and it is considerably less expensive. It removes all make-up - even waterproof mascara - and leaves my skin feeling soft. The pump works great and it has lasted me quite a long time despite that I use it in the AM and PM. I will definitely repurchase and recommend anyone with skin that tends to be dry to give it a try. Good stuff!
UPDATE: I am still using this entire line and my skin looks fabulous. I get compliments all the time and this is my forever HG. I tried going back to using Origins and it dried my skin out all over again. This stuff is so amazing and it is so inexpensive. LOVE IT!
