I was so excited to get this cleanser, in the winter my skin is very dry. Too bad it burns my skin every time I use it. I even tried it in the summer when my face is less sensitive. I use lavender essential oil for many purposes and usually put it on my skin undiluted. I have never had burning from it, so I know it's not the lavender oil.

This product is formulated for dry and sensitive skin, and boy does it deliver! It is a creamy milky cleanser that smells of calming lavender (which helps to balance the skin's oils).
It is relatively thick, soap-free, and moisture rich. There is not much of a lather, but this does not take away from the experience of using this product. It goes on so soft, and washes off very easily.
It is in a bottle with a pump, and is perfect for this type of product. Usually 1-2 pumps is all you need.
I took one star off, because this product claims to remove makeup well, but I don't feel it does that all too well (mainly eye makeup). If you use an eye makeup remover first, however, it is perfectly fine to remove foundation/blush/etc, and cleanse your skin so that it is perfectly soft and hydrated!
Besides the eye makeup factor, I love this product and recommend it for anyone with dry or sensitive skin.

I'm looking for a less expensive alternative to the Purity cleanser by Philosophy, but unfortunately this isn't it. I've used Purity for a few years and I love how well it removes makeup and thoroughly cleanses without leaving a greasy feeling or stripping the skin. When I put this Avalon cleanser on damp skin, it turns runny and slips off, which makes it hard to thoroughly massage into the skin to dissolve away dirt and makeup. I end up using more in order to clean my entire face. Oddly, while it's more watery, it doesn't rinse off as cleanly - there's a bit of a film on my skin afterwards that the Purity cleanser doesn't leave. Also, this stings a little bit around the mouth which is unpleasant. I still ended up finishing the bottle though. It's a decent cleanser for a decent price, but not exactly what I'm looking for.

Like the smell. Like the creamy, milky consistency. Feels really gentle. Skin is soft and happy after use. But it doesnt remove my eyemakeup very well at all so I wouldnt repurchase. Worth a try if you don't wear makeup though.

This is a nice cleanser - I didn't find it irritating or overpowering like other reviewers. I use it to remove eye makeup mostly, it is very effective and gentle for this. My skin feels fresh after using it. I have noticed I am getting less spots since using this, but it hasn't made a difference to my pore size. Overall pretty good, but nothing remarkable!

Like many others here, I brought this because I have sensitive skin and wanted something natural. But the lotion burnt like fire and ice and my face turned red. I think the essential oils in this are are too strong and its not the nicest scent of lavender essential oil either.

Unfortunately, I had a very bad reaction to this cleanser. I felt a burning sensation when I was using it and afterwards, my cheeks were cherry red. I thought it was due to something else since this is meant for sensitive skin, so I tried it again. Unfortunately, same result. There is something in this product that does not work for my very sensitive skin.

Such a nice cleanser! I have been desperate to find something to calm my sensitive skin in winter. For years I've dealt with skin that reacts to the cold - I get red, blotchy, dry patches, and bumps in extreme cold - especially on my cheeks. This year I ended up with dry, rough patches on my forehead as well. I have tried Clinique Comforting Cream Cleanser and Cleansing Balm, and have been using Noxema recently. The cream cleanser was great but pricey, so I've been looking for a replacement, since the Noxema is obviously too harsh. The cleansing balm is ok, but hasn't helped either (in fact, I believe it may be pore clogging as I got little bumps on my forehead with it, which I've never had before!)
So, after reading reviews on MUA, II got the Lavender cleansing milk and have been very pleased with it - it cleanses gently, removes my eye makeup and leave my skin feeling moisturized. Doesn't burn my eyes at all. The smell is calming and wonderful! The day after I bought this I went back and purchased the lavender moisture cream as well and have been equally pleased. My redness is reduced, my skin is perfectly moisturized and so far, the dry patches have subsided. It's been a week. Very pleased so far!
EDIT: After a reaction to my serum, I used this and it burned. Although it doesn't irritate my eyes, if I get a tiny bit in by mistake I can tell it's there, you cant easily blink it away (if that makes sense). It's also a bit too watery for me - I do like it very much - but after the burning I've shyed away from it and am trying some other gentle cleansers (Lush Ultra Bland, Clinique Redness - I have samples of both). Will update once I have a verdict!

UPDATE Dec 2009: Have switched to just Macadamia Nut Oil as cleanser and moisturiser. It's my HG, now.
I'm reviewing this with the Lavender Daily Moisturiser. As a note to the very sensitive like me, this stings on application. It just does and usually that would be enough for me to quickly wash it off and curse it as yet another product that said it was for sensitive skin and clearly wasn't. Thankfully, I just plowed ahead with using it, because the sting has no lasting effect: no redness, no dryness, etc. Please, give it a fair try! My face doesn't break out or turn red. Because I'm prone to Rosacea/perioral dermatitis I avoid its triggers: Petroleum products such as minerol oil (paraffinum liquidum), petrolatum & paraffin, SLS, isopropyl myristate (i avoid isopropyl anything & myristyl alcohol & myristyl myristate), cinnamon flavouring, fluoride & tartar control ingredients in toothpaste. This cleanser has no parabens or any of my triggering ingredients. I wet my hands and and dispense 2 pumps and massage into my face and neck. Then I either remove with a microfibre cloth and then rinse with lukewarm water, or just rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry with another microfibre cloth meant for doing windows with =), and apply the Daily moisturiser. If I have a spot, I apply Method Baby Diaper Cream to it on top of the moisturiser and it's usually gone in the morning.
Avalon stuff is easy to find on both sides of the pond (Whole Foods in US, Waitrose and health food stores in UK) and inexpensive, too. It's my HG cleanser.
UPDATE: well, I can't use tap water here in the UK. It's official and I have it verified by a beautician/facialist with 25+ years experience in London that the tap water is horrible for your skin. This cleanser is great for anyone who has a good source of tap water, but it isn't meant to be a wipe off cleanser *sigh*. Switched to Clinique Redness Refief and so far so good continued >>

I really like this cleanser. When my skin has dryness issues, I use this for several days and it seems to calm acne and dryness down. I adore the smell of Avalon's lavender line, so the scent is a huge bonus. It has an almost whipped cream-like texture that feels really soothing as you massage it in.
My skin is pretty sensitive to a lot of cleansers, and this one hasn't caused any issues yet.

My skin has been getting more sensitive than it was years ago. As I have been trying to adjust to this change, I've come across too many products that are designed for sensitive skin, but are anything but. I'm still learning which ingredients to avoid, but it has been a painful journey.
I might as well have washed my face with gasoline and water...that's exactly what this felt like. I am willing to bet the gasoline would have removed the light application of mineral makeup I had on, though. I will give Avalon's Lavender Cleansing petrol...I mean Milk this: it smells a little better than gas.

I use this as makeup cleanser. Cleansed well without the oilness. Love the soothing smell of lavender. So far the whole range seems to help calming my inflammed skin (Cos i keep changing skincare/ due to too much chemical). Love it to bits. Will continue to buy. Easy on wallet. Great stuff.

I did not like this product, it made my skin break out and it kinda smelt bad. I used it twice and ended up using it as a hand wash instead of a face wash. I would not buy this again. The packaging was probably the best part.

i like that this product is natural...however...it did not remove my make up at all. And on top of that, it felt too "rich" for my skin. I have much better luck with Desert Essence "Jojoba Oil" from trader joes that only costed me $7---jojoba oil removes all my make up AND leaves my skin feeling really clean and so soft. this avalon cleanser just wasn't for me.

doesn't remove makeup at all. nice and gentle though. would be good if you had irritated skin but never wore makeup. for me i thought it was removing my makeup, and then i was having this awful congested skin week, worst i've had in a long time, and i swiped my face with a toner after having "cleansed" with this and lo and behold, a whole week's worth of foundation was still hiding in my face. it didn't look like it was still there, but it definitely was and had crept its way into my pores. yuck.

I only wear tinted moisturizer and blush, but this cleansing milk didn't remove them. After washing twice, I had to wash a third time with another product. The lavender facial wash is a much better product, but too drying for my skin.

I finished the whole bottle. It is cheap and nice. Now i m on the second bottle but this time i tried the one with Q10. It is more expensive but i got it at 30% discount. Great buy! I think they are similar. After this, i think i will get back the one without Q10 cos its cheaper.

Overall, it's a great product. It's gentle, cleans well without drying. I don't really care for the strong scent, though. I'll go back to my BWC Herbal Cleansing Cream when I'm done with this bottle.
